For those who don’t get it I think the implication is that when we thought we saw Zeus raping Demeter back in Eternal Seasons it turns out that was actually an act between the two of them.
Demeter loved Hades but because her father was Cronus (a ruler who didn’t love her) couldn’t risk sex with him because if she had children she would loose her divine essence and die and she didn’t want Hades to feel responsible for her death. So she came up with a plan to have a child with Zeus since that child could be loved by Hades and even have kids because of his status. Zeus, however made a promise (in the story titled The Promise) to always hate Hades and as such if Hades knew he did the thing with Demeter it would be “breaking” the promise to him. Hence the act between him and Demeter to make it look like Rape. Zeus WANTS Hades to hate him back (read the Promise for more) Complicating things further, and probably why they can’t just be honest with each other is the fact that Zeus is cursed by Gaia (who seems to be the source of fate in this story) to be unable to love or know love. Gaia messed with him because SOMEONE ELSE broke a promise and reciprocated love with him when Gaia did not want them to be together (Zeus’s first love Metis) as a result of ONE if the couple breaking their promise to Gaia (It’s implied that Metis was the only one who knew about it) Gaia punished BOTH members of the couple. This explains why if Zeus wants to do something nice for his brother Hades he has to be so roundabout about it. Because when he was upset and in pain and mourning he made a promise to “always hate him” and now if he doesn’t follow it out Gaia will take sadistic pleasure out of making things even more miserable for everyone.
I could be misinterpreting everything but this is what I get out of it. Feel free to correct me if anything feels wrong.
