Sarvati's Journal: Dragons/Dracconids

Sarvati's Journal: Dragons/Dracconids

Day 27, Celestial of The Great Twins, 24th Year of Drakko the 1st.

Day 27, Celestial of The Great Twins, 24th Year of Drakko the 1st.

Dragons...

Gigantic creatures, clad in scales as hard as diamonds, breathing powerful flames from their mouth, and of course reigns over the sky. Or so what was commonly thought.

Such thought is not exactly wrong. It was kind of true. Was… at least a long time ago. Those kinds of dragons were our Great Ancestors.

We call them true dragons, while we are named dracconids. It is pretty ironic, if I have to be honest about it. Dracconid was the name that humans use to call us. Despite having continuous conflict with them, we are using that name if we are under the circumstances of explaining our position in the tree of evolution.

However, in normal conditions, we still call ourselves as dragons. So do the humans.

No one exactly knows why we evolved into our current state which is very different from our Great Ancestors. Some said that it was our interaction with the humans and other sentient beings that changed us.

That actually makes sense, the body shape of most sentient beings in the current age are humanoid. Despite the instability of how they stood, which doesn’t matter much to dragons because of our tails, the shape of arm and upper torso enable these creatures to do a lot of things. Including wielding weapons.

Bygone the age where we were just flying above avoiding all sort of magic and weapon thrown at us. We can use shields now, as well as weapons. It is arguably more effective than trying to claw tinier creatures.

We can forge those things, we have a lot of volcanoes in Dragon Empire. If there are no volcanoes around, we can always ask any nearby fire breathing dragon to help. I think that is the reason why most of our blacksmiths are fire breathing dragon.

Speaking of fire breathing dragons, like myself, not all dragons are related to fire. Some are related to other forms of magic. Most dragons are gifted with natural magical abilities.

Since the time we hatched, we already knew how to spit those things. However, only through training that we would finally be able to control our magic. It can be manifested in many ways as long as it is still related to the dragon. I’ve seen some fire dragons unleash fireballs from their punches. Some dragons could make their scales tougher than steel at will. Kirriyu, my fellow lieutenant in Crimson Meteor Squadron, is one of those dragons. She could even use her arms as a sword.

As I said earlier, only most dragons got this gift. Some are unfortunate and received no gift from their birth. These dragons, who don’t have even the slightest ability to wield magic, are named ordinary dragons.

Before the age of Emperor Drakko, ordinary dragons were the subject of mockery among dragons. They were, and often still are, considered weaklings. Emperor Drakko did his best to erase this view, but there are still dragons who view the ordinary ones as lower being.

I bet they have never faced or watched a powerful ordinary dragon in fight. I’ve heard that twenty five years ago, The Fate Sealing Dragon was unbeatable. He managed to destroy an entire mountain alone and turned it into a crater. Amusingly, the one who was able to defeat him was an ordinary dragon.

His name was Kaisser Brahmm Vaardict.

Sarvati's journal will be released between chapter clusters and filled with some information not mentioned in the main story. Unlike the normal chapters, Sarvati's journal takes a first person approach. I actually enjoy making this journal, it makes me easier to dive into the character's point of view, feeling, and personality when writing it.

I hope you guys enjoy it.

Seven years have passed since the fall of Rahnuc, The Dragon Demon King, at the hands of Rignil, The Chosen Knight. For a while, the world turned peaceful. Rignil was hailed as a hero, the savior of the world, before he finally vanished.

The disappearance happened as chaotic forces, remnants of Rahnuc's power, loomed over the world, once again.

It was Sarvati Vermillion, a loyal friend to The Chosen Knight, who took the duty to carry on Rignil's dream of a completely peaceful world. In order to stop the impending doom, she was tasked to supervise the most dangerous criminal in The Dragon Empire, Vayyu Wissn.

Sarvati doubted Vayyu's capabilities due to the latter's attitude. Matters went worse as Shivvar, Vayyu's rather foolish friend, joined the party. The two dracconid's immense strength finally gave Sarvati a new hope to complete Rignil's dream. Yet, those very strength are the cause of her new doubt regarding their origins.

Demonic powers are not the only thing they have to face. Each of them must face their past, their true self, and the darkness within.
