Clover found herself disorientated. It was dark. Her surroundings were made of metal, and she felt like the room was moving. She waited a minute for her eyes to adjust.
There were boxes piled around her. She knocked on one. It was filled with something. What she wasn’t sure.
Seconds later Bowden appears beside her.
“Well, whoops,” he chuckled.
“Is this where we are meant to be?” Clover asked.
“I wished for us to be on the ship. I guess I didn’t actually specify which part of the ship huh? We’re in cargo. Good thing it didn’t pop you into a shower or something. That would have been awkward.”
“Ship… spaceship? Are we in space right now?”
“Yeah, I should have mentioned huh? Sorry. We were in the middle of a stock run when I got you. Getting some mineral of some sort from the planet Ibel. The crew was going a bit mad with the not being able to find the boy thing that I suggested I find you to help us out. Also everybody kept forgetting about him. Judging by the time that I took to get back, and the full up boxes, I’m guessing that we are on the return trip.”
“Oh… yeah… the boy,” she rubbed her head. “Yeah…”
“Wait, are you forgetting him to?” Bowden asked slightly worried.
“No… yes? Maybe? I really don’t know,” she muttered.
“Huh… Mort might be able to do something about that. She stopped us from forgetting about the boy too. That he exists I mean, all of us still can’t remember what he even looks like. I’ll take you to her. She’s the last one to be with him anyway, or so we think. Come on, I’ll show you around.”
He walked towards a large metal door and touched the door with all five fingers on his right hand. The area around it lit up purple, and a bunch of lines formed a pattern on the door. Then the door opened.
Wait how did he find me? Clover thought to herself, but put the thought out of her head when she saw the room beyond the door.
The walls though were metallic shades of green, pink and purple. Pillars were decorated to look like water flowing upwards held up sections of the room. Longue chairs and tables, that looked like they were carved of blue marble were placed neatly around. Mounted on the walls were large screens, each one showing different things. One had a display of the whole ship and its current status, temperature, flight trajectory and so on. Another screen had the different crew members and where they were currently located. The little picture of Bowden was blinking and then it stopped, the ships censors sensing him aboard the ship again.
Bowden looked to that screen and pointed to the picture of a lady with freckles a cute button nose and short black hair with a purple streak in it. The name beside her picture read Cynthia Mortigan.
“Here, we’re going to look for her. This is Mort. Please call her Mort and only that. She won’t reply to anything else. Let’s see. It says she’s in the workshop. Come on, let’s go. I’ll give you a quick tour along the way.”
They exited the room and walked through a long hallway. Bowden pointed out what was behind each door, opening a few so Clover could take a peek into some of the rooms. Then they finally reached the workshop.
The inside had various machines strewn about the place alongside boxes filled with nuts and bolts and other materials. The end of the room was a large table and sitting at it staring at a bunch of notes was a lady with black hair with a purple streak. They approached her.
“Hey, I got Clover!” The lady snorted and continued staring at her sheets of paper. “Mort… you not going to say anything?” Bowden asked nicely.
“I’m currently busy,” she shoots back.
“You are currently being a jerk,” Bowden retorted.
“You are wasting time!” She growled. “Just go off and look for the boy alright? I’ve told you all I remember so there’s no reason to come back to see me.”
“Look, it takes two seconds to say hello and you wasted that already. We could have been out of your hair if you were not wasting time.”
Clover looked at her and then at Bowden. “Am I uhh… interrupting something that’s going on between you two, because I didn’t come here to get in the way of brooding romances and stuff,” she said circling her finger at the both of them.
“No!” the cried in unison both horrified.
“Look, I’ll come out with it now so this doesn’t become an issue, and we don’t have to go down this long loop where you keep secrets and then fight and argue and then become best friends after talking it through. She would be upset at anyone coming in regardless of if they were male or female, and I’m not in a relationship with anyone… yet. Thank you very much. Also she’s married.” Bowden said quickly. “And she’s always upset about something or another. So don’t worry about her attitude so much.”
“Oh… then? So, are you going to tell me about it…”
“Look, okay, I was the one in charge of the brat!” She spat out. Then she slumped forward into her arms.
“Oh,” she said. “Then you know I would have to talk to you regarding this right? It’s always better to hear from the last person who has seen the missing child.”
“Yes I know, shut up.”
“Um…”
“I’m reading this right now okay? So the two of you, sit by the corner over there on those buckets, give me five minutes and shut up.”
The two of them meekly complied.
