Laelole finally let out a deep sigh.
„There is a lot going on outside of your little Village. Horrible Things are happening. A few years ago, the Humans invented tiny portable machineries that limit our magic abilities and only leaves us with our most useless powers. If the different Ghost Races aren´t being killed, they are used as slaves around the world. We never... We never had to come up with any weapons that would work without Magik.“,
He stopped for a second, listening for sounds and giving their surroundings a quick check with his eyes. Then he looked back at her.
„They will have brought my family into the nearest big human city. They probably have no idea, who – well, I just want to find them. And get them out of there.“
Jamie had the budging feeling that there were still a lot of things The Forrest Ghost did not tell her. But she didn´t ask again, this time. Laelole seemed to be caught up in his own, painful thoughts. And she also, tried to understand what he had revealed to her. Slavery and murder were things she had heard about in Stories, and they still seemed to be too far away for her to even grasp them, but a hollow feeling latched onto her for a while.
They didn´t talk much more for the rest of the way, but the silence felt a lot more connected and equal, than his previous engagement.
The Darkness just started to arrive between the tall trees, when the forest began to thin out. The Nature seemed different than near the Settlement, younger.
Jamie tried not to let any of her excitement shine trough, but her Curioutity grew with every step they took. She had never – or at least not in a time that she was able to remember, been further away from the Village than a few Miles. In a way she felt like a Bird hatching out of its egg. Fear brew at the bottom of her Stomach. The hard shell that had surrounded her had also meant safety, and once it was broken, she wouldn´t be able to patch it back together..
It took a few more minutes, then she could see the Outside through the leaves of the trees. Her eyes widened. There was grassland in front of them that stretched out to the lengths of the Horizon. She had never seen the thin line of the Sky touching the ground and her heart fluttered.
A loud sound shifted her Attention and she looked up at the sky. High above them, a big gray box hang by a metallic thread and slowly shifted from side to side in the Evenig Breeze. The Thread led to a White house a few hundred feet from them.
Suddenly, a Jolt went through the Construct above them, and the Grass around them seemed to shiver in anticipation. A metallic Hiss followed, and the thing rushed toward the Station with and insane Speed.
Startled, Jamie made a step back, bumped into Laelole and grabbed his arm.
„Is that the Magic you were talking about?“, she whispered breathlessly
He suddenly felt her warm hand on his arm and a painful Burn shot through his heart. This wasn´t the way he had wanted to meet her again. Not in this time. Not at the prize of having to lie to her again.
„No.“, he replied and looked down at her with an amused Grin. Jamie pulled herself back together and broke loose from him.
She would not allow herself to do something like this again. Her purpose in this mission was to show him what Humans acted like. Not to shiver before the first human thing she saw and cling to him like an idiot. Was that thing even human made? Jamie hoped so.
She thought about what she could possibly do for him and then observed him from the side. He looked back at her curiously.
„Alright, if you want to look like a human, you´ll need to wear something different.“
He narrowed his brows.
„Really? I´m already wearing the most humanlike thing I was able to find in our wardrobe.“
Jamie snickered. His Jacket could pass, even though it was a bit bold, since he was not wearing anything beneath it and it didn´t have a zipper – so his muscular Body revealed himself every so often. She blushed slightly and looked away from his Breast down to his Pants. The pants were ridicusiously short, for a man. The corners of her mouth twitched again when her gaze arrived at his naked feet.
She looked back at the white House in the distance. It looked like an official Building. Would they allow someone to come inside on his bare feet? Maybe?
„Well, you´ll definitely need something for your pointed ears. Can you maybe – hide them with your magic abilities?“
„Wow, you really took a long look at my ears.“, he replied, smirked at her, and played with the inner edges of his Jacket. He was totally teasing her after her intense stare. Jamie´s ears turned red.
"But no, I can´t do that. Sorry.", he added.
