Garret led Liam to building six—which he haven’t walked in before. The cafeteria sign is written neatly with big letters on the left side of the gray double door with a black paint on the beige colored wall. ‘Gym' is written on the wall next to it. Liam taking notes on his head since the last class he’ll be having is P. E..
A streams of kids going in and out of the door and the two need to squeeze their way into the room. Garret accidentally knocked his nose with a bigger kid elbow. His already red face became even redder and because he can’t say anything to the kid that have running out from the cafeteria in hurry, he’s whining about it to Liam—that clearly doesn’t care—for a while.
Rubbing his hurting nose, Garret looking around for a while before he found his friends that waving his hand at them from a table on the left corner of the room. He waves back and then let Liam walking to the long display of foods up front after passing the lines of tables.
The two of them take a metal tray from a table and lining up to wait for the other kids to finishing their food selecting.
Garret meticulously tell him that the cafeteria usually changed some of the menu on Tuesday and Friday. He also tell him about the foods thats no one would touch like the mash potatoes or pepperoni pizza since it never taste right and which food he think have the best taste or at least edible enough to not make someone throw it on garbage bin. Liam only half listening at him and looking around the beige colored room that’s packed with kids.
The kids surrounding the many rectangular tables that’s lined up and filled the big room, either eating, gossiping with their friends, or doing any other activities with loud voice. Some of them took a glance at him before continuing their activities after Liam looking at them, though there would be some kids that’s will boldly staring at him and nudged their friends and asked about the new kid that just arrived today.
When it’s time for them to pick their food, Liam only take the mac ‘n cheese, some salads, an apple and can of Pepsi while Garret take a double portion of french fries, pies and milk—that make Liam think that he may need to re-evaluate his own grade for the cafeteria foods because of his weird food combination.
After paying for their foods, they walked to the direction of Garret friends that welcoming them with a smile.
Garret introducing his two friends at Liam that clearly have no ounce of interest at the two. He only said his name and nodded at them before started to fill himself with the food he bought. Garret and the other two trying to strike a conversations with him, but he barely answered their question about how he think of his new school or his life in his previous school. He only said a words of two at them and keep eating his mac ‘n cheese that’s having a fishy smell slowly, promising himself to not buying it for the second time in the cafeteria again.
Aside from a few glance from other kids, he noticed a few intense stare from a few table not far from where he’s at and take a look at the directions he thought the stares came from. He continued to scoop his plastic spoon on his salad again, eating it without tasting it.
One of the stares came from a larger table on their right side. He saw the group of kids that he met on his class before is talking casually with each other while taking a look at his direction occasionally.
Deemed that they’re not that important right now, Liam move his gaze across the room.
In the middle of the cafeteria, he sees a group of loud kids with the rich looking bully that made him falling to the floor together with that one boy is in the center of it. They were laughing and playing around with each other and when the rich looking kid noticed that Liam were looking at him, he’s looking back at Liam with disdain before laughing at a joke his lackey (at least they looks like his lackey for Liam) made.
Seeing that those kids with the word rich and dumb plastered on their head, he’s scanning the room again to see if a certain person is present in the room or not, but he haven’t seen that person at all.
He sneered, popping open the tab on his drink.
Before, he saw that on the even corner back of the cafeteria, there sit a group of people’s with a quiet atmosphere that certainly doesn’t say ‘good peoples’ on their face. Liam is observing them quietly at the moment.
The group consisted of five males that’s mostly wearing black clothing. At first glance they may seems like a group of goth lover, but on closer inspection, it doesn’t seems to be the case. They talked with each other quietly and when the male with an ash colored hair—he believes was the boss of the group—saying something, the others will listening closely with a serene expression on their face at him without interrupting him until he’s finished with his speech.
Feeling that someone is watching him, the guy with the spiky ash hair slowly looked at Liam direction. Liam still casually watching them while drinking his soda and that person stared a few second at him before gazing away from Liam direction and he talked with his friends again.
Garret still trying to make the conversations going between them, but then he find that Liam was looking at the group of gloomy peoples on the corner. He moves a little closer at him and speaking with a smaller voice at Liam, intend to make him listening to his words.
“Hey, Liam, I advise you that you better didn’t get too close with those peoples.”
“Why?” ask Liam, turning his head at Garret, actually interested.
Hearing him actually answered him, he excitedly continued with a conspiratorial tone, “They said that they are affiliated with a gang outside of school and do bad things like doing drugs, illegal racing and stealing. Especially the leader—that one with the ash haired guy, he’s called Kurt Jenkins. I heard that he once beat a kid read bad he need to stay in the hospital for three full months when he’s still in junior high. The kid moving out from the school when he got out of the hospital. Peoples who know him said he lost a few teeth and he can’t walk normally ever again after that.” Garret shuddered, “And you know what the most unbelievable in this story? That kid got beaten because he bumped onto him and knocked his phone on the floor!” Garret shakes his head, “After the incident, he only got suspended for a whole month. No police charge or anything. It seems like the kid he beat up got scared enough he doesn’t even want to make another contact with him anymore.”
The other two that’s forgotten on the table nodded in agreement with Garret statement. Liam kept his silent and Garret thought that he’s worried about those peoples.
He pat Liam shoulder and with a serious face he said, “Don’t try to get close to them or provoke them. It's better to get away from them if you meet them in the future.”
Liam looking at him rather funnily—which the other three not aware of. Not agreeing nor opposing, he take another sip from his drink.
A small smile appeared on his lips that’s hidden by the soda can.
