Clark and I went out of the bedroom. He walked to where the bathroom was but I got distracted when I saw the entirety of his house.
His place was damn huge! It doesn’t even looked like it belong to a high school student. This was more like a penthouse of a CEO.
My jaw dropped in amazement.
“Is this your house?” I asked.
“Yeah, something wrong?” Clark carefully asked.
“N-no, it’s just…big,” I replied.
I was staring at the skyscrapers outside the huge windows. It felt as if I’m in heaven because of how tall this building was. Like I could actually tough the sky.
“Yeah, well…my parents can be really doting sometimes,” he said.
“Your parents?”
Clark led me to the east side of his penthouse where the bathroom was located.
“I’ll get you new clothes. Go take a bath,” he said before leaving me.
I continued looking around the place, still letting the fact that Clark was living in a luxury penthouse. When he said apartment, I was expecting the normal kind students could afford while attending school.
Whoever Clark’s parents were, they’re awfully rich to afford this place for their kid.
I entered the bathroom and was impressed once again.
His bathroom looked like the pictures I usually see in interior magazines. Only the rich and famous could afford this kind of things.
Not only was he kind and good-looking, he’s also loaded.
And all in the right places too!
I stepped inside the bathroom, gawking my eyes out. This was as huge as my room.
My eyes focused at the tall windows facing the tub. The fascinating view of the city made me speechless. Imagine having a bath at night in this place and just looking out of the window seeing the night sky filled with thousand kinds of bright lights.
I’m sure it would be a marvelous sight.
Clark knocked on the door and I let him in.
“I’ll leave your clothes here,” he said, putting the neatly folded clothes on top of the nearest counter.
“Thanks a lot!”
“Sure.”
He was about to leave but I stopped him to ask, “where are we going anyway?”
Clark turned around and gave me a slight smile.
“It’s our day-off, let’s go somewhere fun.”
--
I finished taking a bath in an instant. I didn’t want Clark to think that I’m a slow-poke or anything, though I could be at times.
I double, triple checked myself in front of the mirror. I made sure I looked a little bit handsome because I’m with the person I adore the most.
Deciding that I looked decent enough, I got out of the bathroom, feeling fresh.
I saw Clark moving in the kitchen and so I went in. Seeing him in front of the stove, fixing something up, I walked behind him to surprise him but before I could get near him, Clark already turned around to face me.
I gasped in shock.
“Hey, something wrong?” he asked, raising a brow at me.
I was stunned to speak coherent.
“U-uh, yeah, yeah I’m…yeah, sorry!”
Clark blinked and asked, “what is it?”
“It’s just that…I was about to surprise you and play a prank but…yeah, I’m horrible,” I truthfully said, laughing nervously at him.
“I heard you walking behind me,” Clark admitted. “Want coffee?”
“Sure,” I said.
I wanted to ask him how he could hear me even though I wasn’t really making much noise. Nevertheless, I let it go. Maybe Clark’s just sensitive to sounds since he’s living alone.
He was about to pour a boiling water on the cup. I wanted to stop him because I don’t really liking drinking hot coffee but he’s been doing me a lot of favors already. I stayed quiet, cringing at the hot cup of coffee that he gave me.
I sat down on the dining table while Clark leaned against the counter. We were both drinking our coffee, well, mostly Clark’s been drinking his while I blow the cup to make it drinkable for me.
I could feel Clark watching me, making me fasten my pace in drinking coffee. It’s unbelievable how anxious I am when I’m around him.
“Finish your coffee, I’m just gonna get my things and we can go,” he said.
“Okay,” I mumbled.
When Clark was gone, I slammed my forehead on the table. I groaned from the pain of the impact, but the pain of being awkward around him was much more worst than I’m physically feeling.
I wasn’t always like this. Sure, I’m nervous with my past crushes but not like this.
How shameful.
“Hey, you ready?” Clark asked, appearing by the door with his coat hanging on his shoulder.
I was speechless for a moment.
He looked so damn hot.
“A-ah yes, I’m ready!”
--
We rode the elevator to get to the basement parking lot. We were quiet and it was killing me. We were in the 54th floor and it seemed like forever to get to our destination.
I jolted when Clark’s phone suddenly rang. He pulled it out of his pants pocket and answered the call.
“He’s safe. I’ll call you back later,” Clark mumbled under his breath, moving a little bit farther away from me.
I kept my eyes in front of me but was concentrating hard to listen to his conversation.
“Tell Diana I can’t pick her up tonight.”
My ears perked upon hearing a woman’s name.
Who’s Diana?
Clark hung up the phone and sighed.
“Is everything okay?” I asked.
He looked bothered with that call, I wonder what’s wrong.
“It’s nothing.”
My shoulders dropped in dismay. Clark sounded dismissive, obviously not liking that I’m asking him questions.
Maybe this Diana person was the one he’s guarding and taking care of.
I mentally sighed.
I wish I was that person.
--
“Where are we going anyway?” I asked while Clark and I were boarding his car.
“I’ve always wanted to go to this place,” he replied as he handed me his phone.
My eyes widened in pure shock and horror.
“You want us to go to a haunted mansion?!”
Clark grinned.
“It’s gonna be okay. I just want to see something.”
“See something?! You want to see ghosts?!”
He stared at me.
“Yes?”
“It might be shocking for you to hear this but I’m quite afraid of anything paranormal!” I exclaimed.
“It’s gonna be okay,” Clark reassured.
He started the car engine and drove out of the basement.
Meanwhile, I was hyperventilating. I couldn’t believe he wanted to go to a haunted place!
Why?
Why of all the places, why a scary one?!
Going to school was probably a much better option than this.
“Why do you want to go here, Clark? And why are you bringing me there?”
Clark was focused in driving but answered me nonetheless.
“I was planning on going but I’m too busy with work. Now that I’m not, I can finally go,” he explained.
I resisted the urge to jump out of the car.
I was never a fan of anything scary. Whenever Valery and Oleg invited me to watch a horror movie, I always decline their offers because I’m positively sure I’m going to piss myself.
“How are we even gonna go to this place, Clark?” I asked, turning to him with roused brows. “This place is an island in the middle of the ocean. It’s not something you can visit without any plans.”
Clark shrugged his shoulders.
“I made plans,” he simply said.
“You made plans?” I repeated, voice rising in distrust.
Because one minute ago you were saying you never had the time to go to this place and now you already have plans ready?
“Yes. I really want to visit this place, Drew,” Clark said, stepping on the brake when the stop light turned red.
He then faced me, blinding me with his dashing smile.
“Don’t worry, you’re with me. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
All of a sudden, all my worries vanished. I snapped my head at Clark, staring at him.
Damn, if that’s all it would take Clark to make me go anywhere in the world, I’m doomed.
--
It took us a hour and a half to arrive at the pier. It was my first time to go somewhere so far without anyone from the group knowing where the hell I was. I was nervous as hell, keeps thinking that dad’s gonna kill me, especially with the war going on with the heirs.
But I couldn’t just let this chance go.
Clark and I, alone in a desolate place.
A lot of things could happen, maybe good, maybe bad.
I’m certainly hoping for good.
We walked on the wooden bridge and Clark stopped in front of a boat. There was a man waiting for him, smoking tobacco.
“Hey boss,” the man greeted but seeing me, he gasped. “You’re here with someone.”
Clark smirked at him.
“Yes.”
“Sorry,” the man apologized, bowing his head in shame. “Are you ready to go?”
“Sure.”
Clark looked at me.
“I owe you one for this, Drew.”
I flushed, nodding.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it!”
I tried to get in on the boat but because I’m a natural klutz, I tripped over the slightly elevated wooden floor. If it wasn’t for Clark’s fast reflexes, I would have ended on the water for my clumsiness.
He held my arm tight, pulling me back into his arms to stop me from falling.
“Woah, you’re really bad at this, aren’t you?” Clark commented, pressing me against his chest.
If only I could embalm this feeling, I would.
I could smell that faint scent of cologne on him and it just so…manly and sexy!
“Do you need help?” the man asked, looking worried at the both of us.
I was about to answer him but Clark suddenly carried me in ease. I gasped out loud, being lifted without warning.
“W-what’re you doing?!” I asked, panicking at how intimate we were.
Clark smiled at me.
“Getting you on the boat,” he nonchalantly answered.
We finally got on the boat, much to my chagrin. Why am I so clumsy, especially at times like this? I hate that part of myself.
The man began to orient me how the boat worked and the safety precautions. I didn’t know where Clark went but the man, who’s name was Cooper, was highly interesting with what he was saying. It’s obvious he knows a lot about boats and the ocean.
“So, you’re friends with Mr. Roman?”
I stared at Cooper and nodded.
“Yeah, I think so.”
I hope so.
If I couldn’t be his boyfriend, well at least a friend would suffice.
“Mr. Roman has a lot of friends but you’re different,” Cooper said.
What he said made me freeze.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s -- ”
“Cooper!”
Cooper and I both looked at the direction of where Clark’s voice came. We saw him motioning Cooper to come over and he did what he was told without questions. I stayed where I was, staring at the water while the two of them ready the boat.
A few minutes later, the boat began to move. I saw Clark walking towards me, smiling.
“Isn’t it exciting?”
I made a face.
There’s nothing exciting going to a haunted mansion in the middle of an island, in the ocean no less.
“How do you know it’s haunted?” Clark asked all of a sudden. “Not a lot of people knows the existence of that place.”
I looked at him, face paled from realizing that the place we’re going was unknown to the public. People doesn’t even know the island existed because it was once a hideout of the former Russian Mafia leader.
“Uh, uhm, research? I told you, I like those kind of things,” I reasoned out.
“Okay.”
“What about you? Why do you know that island?”
Clark eerily smiled at me.
“I need to confirm something.”
--
Hours passed and we finally arrived at the island. The weather doesn’t look good as the blue sky turned dark while we were approaching the haunted island. But Clark didn’t seemed to care. He was just excited to visit the mansion sitting in the middle of that island.
“I’ll be waiting for you here,” Cooper said to Clark after parking the boat on the edge of the shore.
Clark helped me get out of the boat.
I could see a mansion not far away from where we were and it looked ominous. The sinister looking trees weren’t helping the dark atmosphere this place had. There was something telling my mind that this place was not only haunted but dangerous as well.
How many years had passed since this place was abandoned? After the alleged bombing, no one stayed in this place anymore. Of course, this was supposed to be the former mob leader’s headquarters. No one wanted to stay in this place because of the horror behind the four walls of that creepy mansion. From what I heard from dad, a lot of people died in here. And by a lot, I really meant a lot.
I shivered in fear.
If there’s a lot of people died in here, then that means there’s also ghosts here.
I’m doomed. I never liked anything paranormal.
I froze when Clark put his coat on my shoulders. I looked at him in awe.
“Thanks,” I mumbled, blushing. “But won’t you be cold?”
Clark smiled at me and said, “I’m good. I’m more worried about you.”
I turned my face away from him to stop myself from throwing myself to him.
Get a grip of yourself, Drew!
“What exactly do you need to confirm here?” I asked after clearing my throat.
“Some things,” Clark shortly answered. “I need to check something out to make sure the person I’m guarding now is safe.”
I blinked at him.
“Wow, you must be really close to this person,” I commented.
Clark looked straight into my eyes.
“I wish.”
We stared at each other for the longest time. It was Clark who looked away first.
“Let’s go.”
He walked in front of me while I followed him in silence.
