Marinette awoke the next day in the hospital. Her parents by her side. Her mother enveloped her an a teary embrace as her dad stood behind her. "Mom! Dad. You're here." She said happily. "What happened?" Marinette asked. Last thing she remembered she was detransforming. "It's thanks to Chat Noir." He mom said. Marinette's face paled. "W-What?"
Marinette's dad spoke up. "Chat Noir found you beaten up in an alley he saw some muggers run out of. You got hurt pretty bad Marinette. Why were you in a dead end alley anyways?" "Umm..." Marinette started to think of an excuse. "Oh, leave her be. She just woke up." Marientte watched and her mom scolded her father and she smiled. Suddenly the doctor came in. "Ah, you're awake. Good." He said, scribbling on his clip board. "Now I just have to run a few tests and you should be good to go home." "O-okay?" Marinette said, just trying to keep with the flow. He touched her thigh. "OUCH!!!" She yelped. 'Oh yeah, I was stabbed.' She remembered. "Hmm." The doctor eyed Marientte's thigh, then her face.
"Okay. Now be sure to keep off you leg as much as possible." The doctor called out as Marinette got into the backseat of her dad's car. The drive was long and quiet. Marinette's leg was now in a cast and she had to use crutches to make her way into the bakery. 'Could have been worse.' She thought, remembering what had gone down. 'I still need to check and see if Chat saw anything. I'll do it during patrol.'"Marinette, I need to ask you something. Will you promise to be honest with me?" Her dad asked, breaking her train of thought. "Of course dad. What is it?" There was a slight pause. "Why did you do it?" "Huh?!" Marinette was confused. "What do you mean?" "Why were you in that alley? Why did you get hurt? You could have been killed. Why?" Marinette had never seen her dad cry before, yet here he was, on the verge of tears. "A boy." She said He parent's just looked at her, both worried. "There was a little boy. He couldn't have been more than 8. The men with knives had him cornered in the dead end. I-" She stopped and looked away from her parents, feeling ashamed. "I just wanted to help. I was just gonna distract them, but when the boy finally got away, I found myself trapped instead. I made a mistake and got hurt." Marinette could feel tears come to her eye's as the weight of her failure started to crash down on her. Suddenly, she felt herself being pulled into a warm embrace. Marinette's dad hugged his daughter. "I know your heart is in the right place, but your not ladybug or Chat Nior. You are many things Marientte, but indestructible is not one of them. Please. Be more careful." Marinette sighed and accepted the embrace. "Okay dad." And they stayed like that for a while.
The next day Marinette showed up to school on time, but only because her dad drove her. "Ugg! This is going to get on my nerves." She said, trying to juggle all of her stuff without dropping her crutches. "Look at it this way Marinette." Tikki spoke. "If you can get through this, you can handle anything." Marientte just laughed. "Your right Tikki. But I still don't get why I have to where this stupid cast, I could walk just fine if it wasn't on." Tikki just rolled her eyes and hid in Marinette's bag.
"Sup girl. Need a hand?" Alya offered as she and Nino walked toward the jumbled up girl. "Yes please. Thank you Alya, your a lifesaver." The bell rang. "Alright girl, now lets get you to class." Alya said as the three started to walk into the school. Marinette couldn't help but notice Adrien's absence. Alya leaned over. "Nino says he had a photo-shoot." Marinette blushed at how Alya already knew what was going through her mind.
The day passed by slowly. It was lunch when Adrien came walking in. Marientte was happy to see him, but was surprised when he saw her. Adrien ran over the Marinette. "Marinette! Your okay! You are okay right?!" Adrien seemed to be in a bit of a panic which shock everyone in the room. They all stared at him and Marinette, who could only stand speechless with her tomato face. "Uhhh.. I'm..uhh..I'm f-fine! Umm.. why do y-you ask? uhh..." As Marinette tripped and stumbled over her words she wanted to face palm herself for asking that. "Oh! Uh! The other day I was walking when I saw Chat Nior caring you covered in blood. What happened?" Adrien rambled. He could almost hear Plagg. 'quick thinking, now where's my camembert.' "Oh! Uh, umm... well, I. Uh-,I just got cornered is all..so- um-"Marinette forced out but her senseless blabber was cut off by non other than Chloe herself. "Oh! Adrikins! Your here! Good!-Ugg. Why are you here?!" Before Marinette could say anything, there was a loud rumble. Alya pulled out her phone. "An akuma at the tower. I'm on it." "Sorry Chloe, but I have to go." Adrien said as he ran off. Before Chloe could turn around and blame it on Marientte, she had already gone.
"But Marinette! You're in no condition to fight." Tikki protested. "I know Tikki, but I have to. Tikki! Spots On!" Ladybug flung her yo-yo as it latched on a nearby roof. Using it to elevate herself like she always did, Ladybug was met with a jolting pain in her leg that sent her to her knees. The cast may be gone and the costume fixed, but the wound was still there. As Ladybug fell to her knees in pain she heard a familiar voice. "M'Lady. Are you alright? What's happened?" Chat asked as he helped her up. "Nothing. I'm fine. Come on, lets go. It's at the tower." Still suspicious, Chat followed his lady across the roof tops. The pain was almost enough to send Ladybug into tears, so she stayed in front of Chat. They soon reached the akuma and the adrenaline kicked in, causing the pain to numb. "Look who finally decided to show up. Ladybug and Chat Nior. I'm so scared." "I know her!" Chat said. "She's XY's niece. Abby." "The name's Voltronight now!!!" Abby corrected Chat. "And I will not rest until he pays for what he's done!!!" She yelled, pointing at a man who had been knocked to the ground. "You ready M'Lady." Chat asked with his signature smirk. Ladybug nodded curtly and they jumped into attack. "Go!!!"
(One akuma fight later)
"My Lady! Catch!" Chat shouted, throwing the blackened rubber glove at Ladybug. She tore it in half, releasing a black and purple butterfly. "Get out of here you nasty akuma. Time to de-evilize! Miraculous Ladybug!" She shouted, throwing her lucky charm in the air. After all the damage was repaired, she and Chat Nior split the scene. A few roof tops later the adrenaline running through Ladybug had started to die down fast and she was met with another painful reminder of her mistake. "Aahh!" She called out in shock as she stumbled. Just before she fell off the roof Chat caught her. "Alright Ladybug. This is not just nothing. Please, tell me what's wrong. Maybe I can help." Chat was very concerned for his lady and she knew it, but she didn't want him to be troubled. "No. I-I'm fine. I just got myself cornered is all. I got careless during a patrol. I'll be fine." Chat just eyed her. "Hmm. I'll take it for now, but I'd better get a nice long story when your healed. Also, please don't come for patrol tonight. I don't want you hurting yourself more than needed. Deal?" Ladybug chuckled quietly. "Deal." As the two shook hands Chat realize he was seconds away from detransforming. "Uhmm!" He panicked. Understanding his dilemma, Ladybug wished him fare well and disappeared into the distance. Chat just watched her go as he turned into Adrien. What his lady told him echoed in his mind. 'M'Lady?..."I just got cornered is all." .... Why did that sound so familiar?' Adrien wondered. Lost in thought, he made his way back to school.
"Ahh." Marinette sighed unhappily. Back in the cast. She checked the time to see that school was almost out. "We'd better get going." Marinette said to Tikki. The little kwami was so tried she could barely eat her cookie. Passed out in Marinette's bag, Tikki recharged.
