"Why are you two following me?" Zhinü reached into the bag of chips she conjured out of thin air with her magic while her eyes were set on the pair of man and woman sitting by the window.
"Don't be like that, my dear sister. I'm bored and whatever you're doing seems fun." The woman sitting right beside her flung both her hands around Zhinü's shoulders tight, so tight that she choked on her chips. Their battle soon caused the shelves they were sitting on to slightly wobble.
"Hey, both of you! Stop moving around so much! The shelves are vibrating now, hey!" A man appeared from the side and hurriedly floated down from the top of the shelves, stopping in mid air and pushing the shelves back in place. He turned his head around, finding a young waiter looking at the shelves with a confused look before returning to his work. Humans couldn't see them, since they were the immortals, the deities. He brushed his copper-coloured hair aside and flew back to his place on the left.
"Nooooo! Don't be angry Zhuque!" the bright and jumpy female deity released Zhinü and hugged the arm of Zhuque, her everlasting grin was wider than previous one.
"Shi Quning! Shut up! I can't hear what they're saying!" Zhinü clenched her fist and gently punched the left cheek of her sister while still keeping her eyes on the man and woman sitting by the window.
They sat across from each other, their dinner was just served on their table. The restaurant he brought her to was dimly-lit for a more comfortable evening ambience. Old-school pop music was playing in the background, soothing to the ears and relaxing to the hearts.
"Sorry for not contacting you immediately."
"No, it's okay. You must be busy," Yu Ji replied with a smile.
"Yes, recently I've been trying to convince new investors to invest in our company but they just-" he stopped midway, awkwardly staring at the woman before him. "Sorry, I got too carried away."
"It's fine. You seem to really love your work." Her hands snaked up her upper arms and he noticed her movements.
"Are you cold? I can lend you my-"
"No, I'm not cold. I brought my own coat too so...let's eat or the food will turn cold." She cleared her throat softly, at the same time to disguise her urge to laugh at how polite he was trying to be.
---
They walked side by side, her shoulders sometimes brushing against his upper arm. She had on her black mask and coat, slipping both hands into her pockets and her long fringe ran down the side of her face, acting as a slight cover for her face. The walked along the pavement facing the river, while the three deities walked on the fence, easily balancing themselves on it.
"So Mengyi's always bullied you when you were young?"
"Ah...please teach him a lesson for me. Make him run stupid errands or anything." They both laughed slightly at her joke. She brushed her fringe aside slightly but it kept falling down. She was used to it though, her life as a famous model encouraged her to value beauty over comfortability. The black heels she was wearing was starting to hurt her feet but she was enduring it.
"Your childhood sounds fun," he said while looking straight into her eyes.
"Why? How's your relationship with your siblings?"
"I'm an only child." At that very moment, Quning jumped down from the fence when she saw a coin on the grounds. Her feet kicked a pebble that rolled away and stopped right where Yu Ji stepped.
"Ah!" Yu Ji tried to regain her balance but ultimately fell onto the grounds, closing her eyes hoping that she'd disappear that instant out of embarrassment.
Zhinü saw what just happened and immediately sent a glare at Quning. The careless deity just put on her pitiful look while her fingers groped around the grounds for the coin. Instead, her hand touched another hand and she turned around, finding Zhuque smiling with a coin in his hand. Both of them were dragged by their ears by Zhinü several steps away from Xiang Wang and Yu Ji, whining in pain.
"Look, I'm here to make sure that they smoothly get through their trials and reunite but you two are just adding onto their trials," she hissed with her eyes that looked almost like they were shooting daggers at the two. She urgently turned her head around, her eyes always on the pair and ignored her sister and friend behind.
Xiang Wang held Yu Ji's hand as he led her to the stone bench nearby.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, yes. I'm okay. Nothing too serious." She brushed off the dirt on her white jeans, the knees parts had been browned when she fell. Another addition to laundry, she thought. She straightened her back and leaned against the bench and he followed. Both of them looked to the river, with the wind blowing right onto their face, her hair looked soft as it fluttered in the presence of the wind.
He found his hand moving on its own, tucking her hair behind her ears and she looked into his eyes as he did it.
"Can I ask you something?" she asked.
"What?"
"Have we met before?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know...when I first met you and on the plane..." she stopped, trying to bait a reaction out from him.
"We cried," he finished the sentence for her without hesitation.
"Yes. I want to know why."
"Me too."
"It's okay now, you can stop our pretentious acts," Yu Ji repositioned herself and sat away from him but faced her body towards his, smirking confidently.
"Huh?"
"Even for someone who's too lazy to read magazines, I've read about you at least once. How many celebrities did you date?" Xiang Wang stared the woman in front of him, stunned for being caught red-handed and awed by the guts she had. He chuckled, covering his mouth in doing so.
"You're...smart and sassy as what people said. Do you want to be the next one?" he smirked. She stood up from her seat and put on her gentlest smile ever.
"Have a nice day." She proceeded to walk away from him but suddenly remembered something and turned around.
"That thing about teaching my brother a lesson, I'm serious about it so please, thanks." He kept watching as she walked away and laughed, for he had just found an amusing woman. A woman who did boot-lick him for money, the first woman to ever make him cry though he was still confused why it happened.
