The next morning, Liam waking up from his slumber when his alarm clock reverberating on his bedroom loudly at six forty-five. He hit the snooze button and laying on his bed for some time before taking his blanket off from his body and sitting on the bed. Bleary eyed, he yawned and scratching his itching stomach lightly.
He then standing up, walking to the second floor bathroom beside the other bedroom that’s currently empty since the owner has gone down to the first floor. He do his morning routine silently and going back to his room to change his clothes.
Raising his window blinds, he find that the sky outside is filled with gray, heavy rain clouds. He remembered that yesterday night weather forecast said that it will be raining hard this afternoon.
Maybe the weather forecast will be right this time around.
Already feeling that today weather is colder by a few degrees, he opened the wardrobe and pick a dark green long sleeved t-shirt, a pair of dark blue jeans, and a black and white polar fleece hooded jacket.
He comb his jet black hair while facing the mirror on the wardrobe door and he noticed that his hair roots have started to regain its old color. Shrugging it off, he tied his hair to be a high ponytail in a more neat way this time, though a few strands of hair that’s not long enough to be tied falling from the rubber band that’s holding his hairs together.
He take a small cologne bottle on the table, spraying a small amount of the cologne to his wrist. A faint smell of citrus drifting on the air, and he finishing it by rubbing it to the other wrist before doing the same behind his ears.
Finished, wear his shoes and went to the desk where he place it after doing his first assignment from his new school. He pick his backpack and wear it with only one strap on his shoulder, then went out from his room.
Walking down the stairs, he doesn’t heard too much noise except from the sound of his steps on the floor, the voice of the host talking on the television and some sound of paper being turned from his father newspaper, the house is relatively placid.
Hearing the sound of the stairs creaking, his father that’s sitting on the living room sofa turned to the source of the sound. He was reading his morning newspaper while the woman sitting beside him and watching Good Morning America.
Seeing that Liam is walking down from the stairs, he smiled and said, “Morning. I’ll take you to the school today. Your bike is still in your workplace wasn’t it?” Liam nodded and he continue, “Eat your breakfast first, I’ve already warmed up the car so we can go immediately.”
Liam mumbling some sound of acknowledgment and entering the dining room. The others is already finished, and he’s the only one sitting on the table. He eat his breakfast and washing the utensils quickly.
Before leaving the house, his father give a kiss to his wife and saying good bye to her. She smiled lightly and waves him a good bye and Liam, who doesn’t want to take part with the ‘disgustingly'—as he said—display of affection keep his distance from those two.
After everything is done, Liam and his father walked together to the car that has been parked in front of the gate.
Liam opened the gate and locking it again after the recently washed red SUV is on the road. He get in the car and buckling his seat belt before his father can tell him to do it. They don’t talk after the the car drove off to the road.
After a while, his father broke the silence, “Your phone,” he said as he gave Liam his formerly confiscated cell phone.
Liam accept it and said, “Thanks.”
“Your school allow you to use it only at recess and lunch break, so make sure to turn it off during the lessons or they might take it from you.”
Liam raising his eyebrows at his statement, since as long as he know, his dad has not been participating in the parents teacher conference and left the troubles to his wife to manage, so he’s usually in the dark if he’s asked about things like the school rule and the like. Having his father know about the use of the cell phone on the school ground threw him off a bit.
“Got it,” he answered afterwards.
He flip open his black cell phone and pressing the button to turning it on without too much thought, and surprisingly, its lighting up and the screen asking his phone password. He typed a series of number and the Sony Ericsson logo showed up before it switched to the main screen. He see that the battery gauge is one hundred percent full.
“It’s been two weeks and the battery has died for some time, but I charge it full last night, so you can use it immediately.”
Looking up to the rearview mirror in front of him, Liam looking at the reflection of his father face and said, “Thanks, dad,” with a more sincere tone this time.
After he said that, the phone that has loading perfectly buzzing suddenly, surprising Liam for a second. The buzzing doesn’t stop before he clicked on the numerous text, e-mail and phone call he has received when his phone got confiscated as a part of his punishment.
The oldest call and text started from the day it’s taken and the newest one is from this morning, around ten minutes ago.
Looking at the history of his call log, there’s only four numbers that’s displayed as the caller that he labeled as a group of peoples that’s have too much free time on their hand.
He opened his text and e-mail, reading them quickly since most of the content is just whining and cursing that’s directed to the unfairness of the adults and the whole world.
He send an e-mail to one of the caller, which is his boss at his somewhat-part-time workplace. He’s asking if he can start to work again tomorrow, and after that, he’s contemplating if he should send a text to the other three or not, but then his phone vibrated again, and a text message is received.
He opened the text, read it, and answered promptly. He put the phone on his lap and his father take his attention again.
“I forgot to tell you something,” his father started.
“What is it?” he said, and his phone buzzing again. He take a look at the sender name and read the content of the text.
“I won’t be able to drive you home later since there’s a job I need to finish tonight, so how about going home with your b-“
“It’s fine. I already got a ride,” said Liam, cutting his father words before he could finish it.
“You did?” he paused for a second before smiling with a defeated expression. “It’s good then. Come home before curfew, and send my regards to them.”
Liam nodded and looked down at his slick black phone screen, his lips upturned to form a small, genuine smile.
