Farrah laid on her back in bed, her laptop resting beside her. Her favorite story sat on the screen, yet Farrah couldn't pay attention. She turned the slick box over in her fingers.
"When will you call?" Farrah wondered aloud, rolling onto her side. The faint chime of her phone roared in her ears. She rolled back over.
A message from an unknown number. It read, 'Heyy. This is Rain.'
Farrah stared at the screen. "When did I give you my number?" Farrah thought back on the night, trying to see if she ever did. She shook her head. "No, I didn't." Farrah typed back, 'Who gave it to you?'
'Charli asked Adelah for me.'
Farrah groaned. She didn't mind that Charli and Adelah gave it to him, but she wished they would have asked first.
Her phone chimed again.
'Why? Were you afraid I would blow up your phone?'
Farrah smirked, typing back, 'You wish.'
The response was quick. 'Maybe'
Farrah giggled, muttering to herself, "Let's see how far I can take you." She typed back, 'Oh, yeah? Why is that?'
'Are you kidding? What guy wouldn't want a hot girl fawning over them'
Farrah bit her lower lip. 'Nice try'
'Worth a shot. What are you doing? Besides thinking of me now'
"Haha, if you say so," Farrah mumbled to herself, rolling her eyes. 'Mmm, you know it'
'No, seriously, what are you doing?'
Farrah's gaze flicked over to the story on her computer. "I can't tell him I'm reading erotica. That'd just disgust him." Farrah quickly put on some music, not wanting to lie. She typed back, 'Listening to some rock. What about you?'
'Thinking about a girl who is listening to rock.' Farrah's chest fluttered as she read the message. She drew in a quick breath.
As her body grew warm, Farrah typed back with tingling fingers, 'She must be pretty'
'Gorgeous'
A loud thunder roared in Farrah's ears. 'Funny'
'Hilarious'
Her fingers trembled some. 'Cool'
'The coolest. Much cooler than me.'
Farrah inhaled and let out a deep breath to try and calm herself down. Her fingers swiped across her screen. 'Sounds like she's too good for you.'
'She is. I don't know if I should even keep trying, if I'm making any progress'
Farrah stared at her phone, pondering what to reply. Rain seemed liked a good guy. He was attractive and funny, had a great personality so far. Farrah liked how he took care of Charli. The only thing was... Did Farrah like Rain like that?
Her fingers slowly moved. 'She'd be a fool not to see what you're trying to do. I'm sure you're reaching her.'
Unlike the other text messages, there was a minute before his reply.
As her phone chimed, Farrah stared at the two, simple words sitting on her screen.
'I'm glad' Farrah's cheeks burned, her fingers hovering over her phone.
Before she could reply, her phone chimed once more.
'Do you think she'd be willing to hang out with me tomorrow?'
Farrah huffed, running a hand through her hair. She typed back, 'As a date?'
Farrah turned on a different song, singing along as she waited for Rain's reply. She turned the volume on high before hopping up and walking to her kitchen. Her music grew faint. Farrah opened her cabinet and grabbed a glass cup, filling it up with ice-cold water.
Sauntering back to her room, Farrah heard the low chime of her phone. She picked it up off the bed.
'As friends is fine.'
The tension in Farrah's shoulders melted away. 'I think she might.'
Not a moment later, Farrah received a new message.
'Pick you up at six.'
Farrah started to type back, asking why the time, before getting another message.
'Good night, Farrah.'
Farrah threw her questions to the wind. "Who cares." She typed back, 'Good night.'
Throwing her phone on her bed, Farrah strolled over to her closet. She dug through it, checking each hanger for a nice outfit, mumbling a comment of disgust with each one. Farrah pulled out all the hangers that caught her attention before racing to her dresser. Her eyes scanned each drawer.
With three hangers and two pairs of jeans, Farrah tried matching the items together. One, in particular, caught her eye.
"This it is, I guess," Farrah said.
Putting the others away, a loud chime echoed in her ears. Farrah dove for her phone. A message from Shae sat on the screen. Farrah gasped, realizing she forgot all about him.
Opening the message, Farrah read, 'It was fun. Kylian took me to see the stars on a hill. He even brought a blanket for us to lay on.' Farrah's lips quirked upwards. She was glad Shae was finding happiness.
'You deserve to be happy,' Farrah told him.
'Um, something happened. Something I never felt with my ex.' Farrah raised an eyebrow.
'What?'
'Uh, my, uh, lower region got excited towards him.'
Time stood still. Shae, innocent Shae, was maturing. Farrah had wanted him to be sullied for so long, to reach a level near hers. She wanted him to understand her. Shae, her best friend, the one person Farrah counted on--Farrah wanted him to know what her pleasure felt like, why she indulged in such 'filthy' behaviors.
'Farrah, I don't know what to do. I've never felt this with someone before.'
'Did you enjoy it? The sensation?'
'Yeah, but I was afraid. I didn't want Kylian to think badly of me.' Farrah chuckled at his response. She didn't know why the thought of him being embarrassed escaped her.
'If you saw Kylian like that, would you think anything different of him?'
'No...'
'Then, why would he? You should just enjoy what's happening between you guys now. If it happens again, just remember it's only natural.'
'How should I act around him?'
Farrah could imagine Shae standing before her, asking this. His fleeting looks as he's unable to look her in the eye. Shae twiddling his thumbs. His, ragged, nervous breath as he mumbles the words. Farrah hoped she wouldn't upset him with her honesty.
'Like you have been. Just be yourself.'
'Easier said than done, but okay. I'll try.' Farrah smiled, picturing the look of irritation on him as Shae typed back.
'I'm glad you're having fun with Kylian.'
