The gas masks and mutilated soldier from frame two are inspired by the the works of Otto Dix, a german painter that was also a veteran of WW1 and did his best works against war in the 1930s, when people were starting to see war as a "beautiful", "noble" thing again.
The only thing that sucks about peace is that it makes us forget how horrible war is!
In the last few months, I notice that people naively talk about war. A civil war in america between liberal cities and conservative rural areas. I think that's a lot of bull to get clicks. Just because people argue on FB, doesn't mean they will go to war over pronouns and gay marriage.
...but people seem to look forward to a war! The alt-right describes inner cities as war zones and BLM as a terrorist group and in the next sentence, they can't wait to start shooting hippies as if it's the only opposition they'll get. Liberals whine that humanity is doomed and they can't wait until humanity rids the precious planet of itself.
I don't think humanity can self-destroy. Nature doesn't let us off the hook that easily. I believe humans can really, REALLY fuck up but there will always be survivors left to clean up the mess and curse the idiots who wanted it, like those who grew up in divided Berlin after the war.
I made Daisies speak with the naive, childlike words of the uneducated classes who are sent to fight those wars and live the horror. Not the complicated words of the educated armchair warriors who want it but are too rich, too old or too fat to fight it...
...and in the age of Facebook politics, we're all fat armchair warriors!
