Despite the bus being late and having missed my preferred train, I still managed to arrive at Melbourne Central station in time for our date.
I reach the large hanging clock at the station that chimes Waltzing Matilda every hour. The music attracts many tourists, thus overcrowding the small area underneath the iconic clock. We agreed to meet at half past the hour precisely for that reason. Instead of being too crowded, when I arrived it was very spacious and it made searching for each other much easier.
"Jun!" Kam called out when he spotted me.
I waved as he walked over.
"Hey," I responded meekly when he was within earshot.
Without warning, Kam wrapped his arms around me and embraced me with a hug, in front of everyone.
"How are you?" he asked as he squeezed me tightly.
"I'm suffocating."
Not literally.
"Whoops, sorry."
He released me from his clutches, but then I felt a little cold. I already missed his warmth.
"So, first date, what do you want to do?" he asked.
How could he be so straight forward all the time?
"I don't know, maybe watch a movie," I pointed in the direction of the cinema, "or we can get something to eat?"
"Dinner and a movie? Classic first date." he smiled.
Kam leaned in closer and whispered in my ear, "do I get any dessert at the end of tonight?"
If you don't understand what he really meant by dessert, then you probably won't understand a lot of the things we said throughout the night.
"No," I responded while making my way to the cinema first.
"Haha, I guess it is only the first date after all," he followed me immediately.
As we walked we talked about idle things, but I couldn't help but think in the back of my mind 'it's too early for dessert.'
