“Hurry up, Cooki,” Cosmo yells from the bottom of the stairs. “We’re going to be late for school!”
“I’m coming; I’m coming!” Cooki yells. The twin sister heads downstairs, throwing her brother’s yellow and blue SpongeBob backpack at him. “Sorry! I was trying to say goodbye to mom. Have you seen her? She’s nowhere to be found.”
Cosmo shrugs his shoulders. “Not really,” he answers. “She’s not downstairs either,” he crosses his arms. “That’s unlike of her to leave without saying anything to us first.”
Cosmo and Cooki look everywhere from their mother’s room, bathroom, under her bed, or even behind the curtains. The Ferrendi twin’s head into the living room, getting ready for their first day of school at Diamond’s Elementary.
“What’s this?” Cosmo says picking up a paper from the coffee table. “This is mommy’s handwriting!” He and Cooki take a closer look at the note.
Dear, Cosmo, and Cooki,
I apologize for leaving without telling the two of you anything. However, my new job is now having me work in the morning until late at night, so you’ll be seeing less of me from now on. It breaks my heart to tell you; I won’t be able to see your smiling faces, coming home from your first day of school, telling me the new friends and adventures you’ll be having! You both have an excellent day at school, stay out of trouble and remember to show the students that the Ferrendi Family, are not to be taken lightly!”
Love, Mama Bear.
Cosmo blushes a bit. “Well, it’s nice to know that we don’t have to worry about mom now,” he says, “It was sweet of her to leave this nice later!” He sighs, putting down the letter. “We wasted enough time. Let’s head out to school already!”
Cosmo and Cooki open the door to the outside, enjoying the blue sky with puffy clouds and feeling the cool wind hitting their face.
Cosmo and Cooki head off to school, watching kids who are walking, biking, and skating to school. Most of the children don't seem happy at all about heading off to school.
“Wow, I’ve never seen so many kids so depressed about going to school…” Cooki says. “Then again, it’s still early in the morning. They could just be tired from waking up so early in the morning?” She notices a yellow school bus passing by her and Cosmo, full with different grade students as they had sit next to different upper or lower grade students. But none of them don’t even try speaking to each other. The twins lay eyes on sad students, looking like they’re about to break down and cry at any moment. The twins just shake their heads.“Maybe it has something to do with the Diamond Sisters and Cadets, Jessica warned us about a couple of days ago?
Cosmo shrugs his shoulders. “I wish I could give you the right answer, Cooki. But your guess is good as mine,” he says. “The best thing to do for now is just to ignore them, be the bigger, more mature kids and stay out of trouble!” He notices a couple of students behind him, staring at him and his sister, giving them a dirty look while they’re gossiping to one another. He grabs his sister’s hand. “Come on, let’s go!”
Cosmo and Cooki continue to proceed to school, trying to avoid drama or unnecessary attention. The twins arrive at their new school as they stop in their tracks and gaze at the tremendous white color building.
“So, this is Diamond’s Elementary, huh?” Cosmo mumbles. “It’s such a gigantic school compared to our old school!”
“This school looks incredible!” Cooki says. “You can probably fit up to hundreds, or maybe even a thousands of kids in this school!”
Cosmo and Cooki continue looking around as they walk up the stairs near the entrance to the school, but are soon stopped in their tracks by a pale skinned girl, with blue eyes, and a long brown ponytail, leaning on the door.
The blue eye girl grins at Cosmo and Cooki. “So, you two must be the new kids going to Diamond’s Elementary, eh?” She chuckles. “I heard the both of you had a bad interaction with Jessica and her buddies?” She playfully walks in circles of the twins, “Now, I hope the little first graders didn’t scare the two of you, now did they? Hehe!”
Cooki blushes from embarrassment as she quickly walks up into Sara’s face. “You gotta problem with us little girl?” she says while cracking her knuckles. “I might be the new girl in this school, but that doesn’t mean I won’t kick your butt right here, right now!”
Cosmo sighs, grabbing Cooki’s hand and pulling her away from the blue eye girl. “Calm yourself, Cooki!” He scolds his sister. “I’m sorry about that. My sister can be somewhat of a hothead sometimes,” he raises an eyebrow. “You know Jessica, her friends and what happened to my sister and I a couple of days ago? You must be that girl, she told us about!”
“Indeed, I am!” The blue eye girl says lending her hand out, “Put it there! The name’s Sara!” She says as she looks at Cooki. “I apologize if I made you mad earlier. Teasing the new kids is what I like to do!”
Cosmo smiles as he shakes Sara’s hand. “It’s alright,” he says. “My name is Cosmo Ferrendi!” He points at his sister. “This is my ticking time bomb of a twin sister, Cooki!”
Cooki shows a little smile at Sara. “Hi, it’s nice to meet you,” she says. “I accept your apology from earlier,” the girl blushes while twiddling her fingers. “I apologize for losing my cool earlier… I’m still kind of embarrassed from what happened a couple of days ago!”
“We’re the Ferrendi Twins!” Cosmo and Cooki say.
Sara snickers. “You two sure have a lot of energy in you; I’ll give you two that,” she says. “It’s an honor of being able to welcome both of you to your new school!”
Cosmo grins. “My sister and I thank you for that!”
“It’s no problem,” Sara says. “If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask!”
Cosmo looks at Cooki, then slowly back at Sara. “Well, since we’re new here… Do you mind telling us about these Diamond Sisters and Cadets, Jessica told us mentioned to us before? Who are they? Why are people-“
Before Cosmo can finish his question, Sara quickly covers his mouth. “Shh!” She says. “Don’t say or even mention those two names, when you’re on school ground!” She uncovers her new friend’s mouth, leaving him speechless. “I apologize for my actions, but it’s best not to bring them up at all!”
“Interesting, so you’re telling me these two groups are putting fear into the hearts of the students in this school?” Cooki asks Sara. “They must be a serious problem if they can do something like that!”
“They do, unfortunately,” Sara says in an unpleasant tone. “However, let’s just try not to think about those people!” She smiles, bowing at Cosmo and Cooki. “Allow me to be your guide and show you where you’ll be mostly hanging around during school time!” She grabs the twins hands, forcing them to follow her. “Come on, come on!”
Sara drags Cosmo and Cooki into a hallway with blue and gray floor tiles; the walls painted white, having A+ plus test from students and even pictures with their favorite teachers. “This is the third grade hallway!” She explains to the twins. “You two are new, so it’s best for you guys to stay here in the third grade hallway. You’ll be protected and safe from the upper and lower grade students! We, third graders, are always prepared anything just in case if there’s an attack and have each other backs!”
Cooki raises an eyebrow. “What about the other grades? Pre-K? First? Second? Fourth and Fifth?”
Sara nervously scratches her head. “Well… let’s just say that none of the upper or lower students don’t trust each other right now,” she explains to Cooki. “With rumors going around, from other people telling on one another, so students won’t have to deal with the Diamond Sisters or the Cadets and just doing anything to stay on people's good side.” She looks into the main hallway, seeing a second grade and fifth grade student walking right pass each other, glaring at one another as they’re heading to their main classes. “It’s sad to see most students hate each other, due to trust issues, or being afraid one of them might turn on the other!”
“Hey, Sara,” a spiky brown hair, the dark-skinned boy calls out to the blue eyed girl. “Can I talk to you, privately? It’s important, please?”
“Sure thing, Mike!” Sara says smiling at the boy. She turns to look at Cosmo and Cooki. “I apologize, but can you give me a couple of minutes?”
“Sure, go ahead!” Cooki says.
“Don’t mind my sister and I. We’ll be fine!” Cosmo says.
Cosmo watches Sara having a conversation with Mike, seeing the two having a serious look on their face as they’re chatting with each other. “Hmm… I think Sara’s right.”
Cooki looks at Cosmo. “What do you mean bro-bro?” She asks her brother.
“Sara’s right about how all of the students are not trusting each other…” Cosmo explains. “Back at our old home. It was just a game until recess was over, but I don’t think this is a game at all!” He sighs looking at the floor. “I keep thinking Sara’s just joking with us. But after what I’ve seen in the hallway with that those two kids… that’s enough proof to show that the Diamond Sisters and Cadets are a massive problem!”
Cooki has a concerned look on her face. “I know how you feel right now, Cosmo,” she tells her brother. “I would love to get my hands on those Diamond Sisters and Cadets, but you heard Sara…” she punches the wall. “We’re the new kids! If we even try to start a fight, they’ll come after us in a heartbeat!”
“Hey, are you okay?” Sara says approaching Cooki and Cosmo, “Sorry, I had to take care of something important.”
“Yeah… I’m alright.” Cooki lies to Sara.
Sara sighs, seeing Cooki frustrated. “I know this is a lot from Jessica, and I, asking you to stay out of trouble. But it’s because we want to make sure that you and your brother, so you both won’t get hurt!” she explains to Cosmo and the upset sister. “We know you want to help. However, it’s just too risky, and I’ll live with the guilt if I allow anything happen to the two of you!”
Cooki sighs. “We know… it’s just hard to not doing anything!”
Cosmo pats his sister trying to comfort her. “It’ll be right, Cooki! Let’s just be happy that we have Sara, guiding us in the right direction!”
Suddenly, an outburst happens as students are all running into the main hallway, catching the attention of Cooki, Cosmo, and Sara.
“Hm? I wonder what’s going on over there?” Cosmo says.
“Sara!” A tan skinned little girl’s voice calls out to the blue eye girl.
“What’s wrong? What’s going on?” Sara questions the little girl.
“The Cadets are picking a fight with one of your third grade companions after he tried standing up to them!” the little girl explains, “It might be that shy friend of yours, with the blond hair?”
Sara's eyes widened after hearing the words ‘shy and blond hair.’ “No… why him!? Why now! I told him to stay out of trouble!” She mumbles to herself. “Alright, thank you!” She starts running off towards the main hallway.
