"I don't feel so good," Lily mentioned, feeling light headed and woozy. Roger inhaled the smoke from his cigarette before blowing it back out, wondering if he should care.
"I can't imagine why. You certainly weren't entranced by a vampire," Roger retorted, rather annoyed. Lily glared at his back before her head started to ache. "It'll pass. Jeremy just wants to make a good impression."
"Why would he care? What did he even say? He gave me a card, I know that," Lily thought aloud, looking at the black card she had been given. Roger sighed, rubbing his temples for a moment.
"You saw him as he truly was, and he hates it when people find out he's a vampire before they get to know him. He was doing his best to get on your good side, so to speak. Although, I think he triggered the glimmer effect. I could see it in your eyes. You saw the mask and the truth," Roger informed as Lily nodded slowly. "Anyway, we have to get a move on. There have been reports of a Rogue nearby."
"How do you know?" Lily wondered, her head getting worse.
"Kurt texted me while you were coming out of the trance. He's a powerful vampire and I wasn't surprised when it took you a moment to break the spell. Don't worry, you'll get better with practice, and I'll be there to help you out of it when you need it," Roger informed, glancing behind him for a moment. Lily didn't say anything, wondering what he meant by practice. Were vampires going to continue to enthrall her?
Nothing more was said on the way to the location as Lily recovered on her own. As she tried to focus and understand what had happened, she began to remember small details about the encounter. She remembered the red eyes being covered by green, and the fact that he was so forward while still being gentlemanly. From what she remembered, his actions were kind and almost flirty. No, she decided that they were most definitely flirty, and that made her cheeks go red.
They arrived at an abandoned gas station in a darker side of town. Roger glanced around before walking toward the gas station. Lily followed on his heels, worried that something else might happen. He snuffed out the rest of the cigarette with his shoe after dropping it on the ground. She sighed, thinking that was beyond rude, but didn't want to say anything at the moment. Roger walked into the gas station after pulling apart two wooden boards. Lily followed closely behind, nearly choking on the dust in the air. The station was in complete disarray with broken shelves and cracked counters. Roger motioned for her to be quiet and to stay where she was at the moment. Lily nodded and looked around herself, making sure that nothing was sneaking up on her.
Roger went into the employee section, a knife brandished in his hand. He wasn't going to let anything get the upper hand, even if it wasn't a Rogue. A loud noise rang through the building. Roger straightened and walked slowly to the origin of the noise. He opened a door slowly and just enough for him to peek in. Inside, he could see a young woman, who was growing extremely pale as she writhed on the floor. Her eyes fluttered, revealing red irises. Roger recognized her as new vampire and he cursed under his breath. New vampires were extremely unpredictable and dangerous at the very least. He guessed that this one had been left behind accidentally by a careless vampire that intended to drain her blood entirely.
Roger glanced at his phone, wondering if he should call Jeremy to deal with the new vampire, but decided against it. He needed to show Lily that they had to rely on themselves rather than others to get the job done. Jeremy might not be able to get here in time to deal with the new vampire before they tried to kill someone. Roger took a deep breath and opened the door all the way. The vampire didn't notice as she continued to jerk uncontrollably as her vampirism took over. Roger acted quickly as he withdrew a small kit and removed a vial. It was a harmless sedative that would render her harmless. She would transform calmly and safely while he got back up to initiate her officially.
Just as he stuck the needle into her upper arm, he heard the door swing open again. Lily stood at the door, her face blanched and worried. Roger narrowed his eyes in confusion before he continued his work. Soon, the new vampire calmed and looked as if she were asleep. Lily walked into the room and sat next to Roger.
"I think we're in trouble," Lily whispered as another figure walked through the door. Roger looked up and groaned, realizing what exactly the abandoned gas station was. It was a trap.
