Roger slowly stood up and faced the Rogue vampire that had been called in. He had assumed that the new vampire was the one that he had to deal with, as new vampires were extremely dangerous. However, with the arrival of a second older vampire, Roger understood what had happened. He had seen the older vampire frequent the organization, and Roger had been targeted. He doubted that the vampire counted on two meals walking into his trap, but the fanged smile in his lips showed his excitement. The new vampire was a diversion.
Roger stood and walked in front of Lily, switching the knife for a wood stake he kept on his belt. Lily collapsed behind Roger, but he couldn't check on her quite yet. The vampire laughed and stepped forward.
"I don't think I have been lucky enough to lure two agents in at the same time. Today is truly my lucky day," he grinned, his lips widening a little too much for Roger to be comfortable with. "Do you really think you can get that weapon through my heart before I kill you?"
"I don't know, but I was going to try," Roger answered, standing his ground. He had a new vampire and a new agent to take care of, that he was now responsible for. As his job required, he would die before harm came to either of them. "Are you the reason why my partner fainted?"
"I only sampled some of her blood, as it appeared that she was already marked. I didn't realize until I bit down and I could taste the sour flavor. Her mind and body probably couldn't take both at once. She must have been marked rather recently to have such a violent reaction," the vampire guessed with a shrug. "Although, it's only a matter of time before that wears off. I believe that she would make a wonderful minion with that red hair of hers. She could bring me so many delightful treats."
"You are not to touch her," Roger informed sternly, disgusted with the vampire. It was good that he had gotten the creature to monologue, but he was annoyed with what he had to say. The vampire grinned again.
"You're not going to be able to care what happens to her in a few minutes," he taunted before lunging forward. Roger barely dodged and countered the attack to push the vampire away from the victims. Quickly, Roger took out his phone and pressed the green button on Jeremy's profile, sending the call. However, the vampire lunged again, his fangs bared and ready to sink them into Roger's neck. Roger held out his stake and did his best to stab it in his chest, but missed. The stake bounced off a rib, ripping the vampire's shirt a little as he retreated.
"You should leave," Roger warned, holding the stake in front of him again. The vampire laughed and looked at the tear in his clothing.
"Is that the best you have?" the vampire taunted before twitching, his face changing from delight to terror and his body went rigid. Roger smiled as he recognized a familiar face standing behind the Rogue.
"Quinn, what on earth do you think you are doing?" a dark voice boomed behind the Rogue, terrifying him. Roger lowered his stake and took a few deep breaths of relief. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Lily flinched as well at the sound of Jeremy's voice. "You should know better than to attack NHRO members, especially Rogue hunters. Do you understand the gravity of your situation?"
"Jeremiah," the Rogue gasped, sweat starting to drip down from his forehead as he turned to face the elder vampire. "I-I didn't realize that they were-"
"Come on, Quinn, are you really trying to tell me that you have no idea who Roger is? I highly doubt that, and I don't think you quite understand that there's nothing I can do to protect you from the NHRO. Kurt will put a bounty on your head if you don't go in with Roger, and we both know that the bounty hunters aren't as kind as Roger is," Jeremy reminded as Quinn opened and closed his mouth several times, trying to say something in his defense. Jeremy looked up and passed Roger, finding two bodies lying on the ground. The vampire closed his eyes and sighed, making a decision. "Quinn, what have I told you?"
"Jeremiah?" Quinn whispered, horrified at the change of Jeremy's voice. It had gone deeper and darker, anger sitting in his tone.
"I do apologize, Roger, but I can't let you take Quinn into Kurt. He has committed a crime in the vampire community, and he has to be made an example of," Jeremy informed in the same icy tone as Roger nodded. He never interfered in politics or judgement within communities. His job was only to make the area safe for coexistence and that was it. He had no say when a leader of a community decided judgement.
"Of course," Roger answered, bowing slightly, understanding his standing. "Would you like me to bear witness?"
"If you would," Jeremy answered as he rolled up his sleeves. Quinn backed up, starting to plead for his life. "Quinn Winston, you have been accused of attacking a Marked One that is not of your own, turning a human without permission, endangering the vampire community, as well as attacking two members of the NHRO. Your fate has been sealed and you have been judged."
"Let's be reasonable here. I can redeem myself," Quinn continued as Jeremy advanced on him. Jeremy grabbed his throat and lifted him slightly off the ground before slicing Quinn's throat with the other hand. Roger noted a silver dagger in his hand as Quinn's head fell to the ground. He looked away as Jeremy placed the body on the floor gently.
"Thank you, Roger," Jeremy whispered before taking a deep breath, looking at the damage that had been done.
