“Look kid,” Clover said, taking Tabitha’s hands off her mouth.
“Tabby!” The girl said happily.
“Tabby.” Clover repeated with a grimace. “I thank you for your offer, but quite frankly I don’t even know where I’m going or what I’m about to do.”
“Well. Why don’t you tell me what you know and what you think you know then? I can help if you don’t know what to do! All I know is Mr Dreamboat man told me that you were here right now and I should get to you pronto stat and that this place. It’s not a very good place. Especially right now, what with the not really kidnappings going on and stuff.”
“How does he? Never mind… that for a second. What kidnappings? You mean like... kidnappings that happen here?”
“Oh!” Tabby looked around hurriedly and then beckoned Clover close. She whispered in her ear. “The kidnappings and things! Well... I don't know if they actually do the kidnapping things though? Maybe?" She cocked her head to one side thinking about it for a bit, then continued on. "Well, around these parts there have been a bunch of like super bad people, who when the people who are like missing a something something, come to put their posters of the something or someone that they have missing, they go up to them and say that they have their children, dog, cat or winged hamster and ask them to pay a ransom for it.”
“What?”
Would they have any clue about what's going on? No. They wouldn't. I doubt it very much. I feel like I'm running out of time and I don't have a lead at all though. I don't even. Aghhhh.
“Don’t know much about it though. I hardly know if they have the children or not. I mean we can find out if you want?” Tabby said cheerfully. "I'm sure we can track them down! They might know something about where to find children or something like that? I mean who knows? Oh but I guess you might know something about how to find children too! I wasn't saying that you wouldn't know..."
Clover looked at the long list of posters that she still had to go through, while half listening to the words coming out of Tabitha's mouth. Occasionally adding a "that's nice," and "aha" throughout her rambles.
“It’s not much of a lead though.”
“What or who are we looking for anyway?” Tabitha asked.
“A boy. I think,” Clover responded resigned. If she was to be stuck with Tabby maybe she could make herself useful.
“Say… how would you like to … you know." Clover sighed and scratched her head hard thinking about what they should do. "I don't know. Would you like to... Act as bait?”
