In the morning, Lily woke with the sunlight filtering through the blinds onto her face. She sighed and turned to face the other wall, where she found a beautiful bouquet of red roses in a crystal vase on her nightstand. She sat up and looked at them, noticing a small card near them. She reached for it and sighed, reading what it said.
Dearest Lily,
I would like to apologize for overstepping my bounds last night. It was hardly gentlemanly, and it definitely wasn't polite. I will think about my actions and words before hand from now on. Please accept these roses as an extension of my apology, even though I could not find such flowers to match your absolute beauty. I hope these will suffice.
Yours Truly,
Jeremy Smith
Lily put the card down again and looked at the roses. She thought that the flowers were pretty, but she wasn't sure what to think of his flattery concerning them. The vase was nice, though. It was a bit out of place, with all the bare furniture in the room. Taking a deep breath, she sat up and stretched. That card was more than enough to wake her up.
She changed out of her old clothes, which she realized she hadn't changed in a few days. Now that she wasn't homeless, she was a little disgusted by her appearance. She changed into her other clothes, which weren't much cleaner. With a sigh, she walked out of the room and looked for Roger. It looked to be a little after ten in the morning, but it didn't look like he had gotten up yet.
Lily crossed the hallway into the bathroom, hoping to take a shower. Luckily, it looked like there was some bath wash and some shampoo, which was more than enough for her. It looked incredibly old, but she did not even notice. Within minutes, she was in the shower and washing her hair. She missed the clean water running down her back, and was so glad that she had this luxury again.
Once her hair and body were clean once again, she stepped out and got dressed again. She wondered if Roger had a washer or dryer in house, or if she had to go to the local laundromat. She explored a little farther down the hallway and found a small inlet right next to Roger's room where a washing machine sat on top of the dryer. Quickly, she grabbed all her clothing and threw it in the washer with some soap. When she turned around, she found the same vampire behind her. She yelped, then grew angry.
"What the hell is wrong with you? At least announce yourself," Lily groaned, pushing past him to get back into the living area. There was a small note on the counter, but she ignored it for now. Jeremy walked into the living room while she rummaged through the cabinets, finding some cereal.
"I thought I would stop by and say hi," he mentioned, looking around. He didn't get the chance to take in the room when he was there the previous night.
"Can't you just call first, like a normal person? Or knock on the door before entering? I'm going to die of a heart attack if you keep showing up when I don't expect it," Lily informed, emerging from the kitchen with a bowl of fruit loops and sat down at the dining room table.
"Does Roger care that you're going through his food?" Jeremy wondered, pointing at the bowl. Lily shrugged.
"I'm hungry, and I don't have any money to buy my own food yet. I don't know how this even works. My paperwork isn't even due until the end of the week," Lily informed before shoving a spoon in her mouth. Jeremy smiled, thinking that Lily was strange.
"You seem to be taking everything pretty well, though."
"I guess so. At least I have an explanation for everything now," Lily replied calmly before reminding herself of something. "By the way, you don't have to do that glimmer thing around me. If anything, it freaks me out to see you with two faces at the same time."
"You want to see my real face?" he whispered, shocked to hear something so casually. Lily nodded as she saw his falsehood disappear. The green eyes and rosy skin vanished and was replaced with red irises and a pale complexion. Even his hair seemed to be a bit darker than before. Regardless, she smiled and nodded.
"Perfect. That looks better," she remarked, eating more of her cereal. Jeremy tilted his head to the side in confusion.
"I don't think I've ever had anyone tell me that my real face looks better than my glimmer," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. Lily shrugged.
"That's who you are, and while I know you cover your face up to blend in, I wish you didn't have to. That's not really fair," she rationalized, making him laugh.
"I've never thought about it that way. It's usually a great way to lure in prey," he commented honestly while Lily shrugged again.
"To each their own, I suppose," she muttered, trying to finish her breakfast. Jeremy sat across from her at the table and sighed.
"You are a strange one," he whispered as Lily stared at him, no real emotion portrayed on her face.
"Thank you for the roses, by the way. They match the decor perfectly," she informed, a hint of sarcasm in the latter sentence. Jeremy only smiled, overlooking the sarcastic comment.
"You're welcome," he replied, bowing his head a bit. Lily stared again, wondering what his deal was. With a sigh, she carried the now empty bowl back into the kitchen and placed it near the sink. He followed her as she walked to the living room and turned on the television.
