*If this chapter will be confusing I will have to remind you of Episode 3.06. Lola knew something is wrong because she can’t remember a lot of stuff from her past. So she decided to go to Patrick, someone who worked at her spy Agency. He helped in erasing the memories of the bad people. Upon arriving, Patrick said that he hasn’t seen her since his brother Ben’s funeral. Lola only knew of Ben to be someone from Doctor Gallimore’s Science team, but Patrick seems to know more. He told her that she has a chip in her head. Also, he told her that his servant G. is a male android.
“A-a-a what?” Lola asks. And with those wide eyes made in shock it looks like she has seen the devil. He lets a small chuckle escape his mouth. He missed her weird expressions.
“He is a robot,” Patrick says back, clearly amused by her reaction too. He looks at Patrick with jealousy. He would give anything to be in his place in that chair beside Lola. But he can’t.
“Did you- did you- did you,” Lola tries and fails to say because of the many gulps she has to take. “Did you make him?”
Patrick only gives a sly smile.
“Master Ben?” the machine voice of G. comes from behind him and it makes him jump. Ben turns around at G.. He is caring a tray with two cups of tea. “You are in the way.”
Ben nods and gives the robot his space to go back into the room, where Patrick tells Lola how he created G.. A story that he has actually witnessed. Patrick’s obsession with the machines. Everything.
After listening to the story, Lola decides to leave. More like run away and never come back to see the robot. Ben peeked at their whole conversation from behind the wall at the entrance. G. has brought Lola’s jacket and he helps her put it on. Ben eyes the robot but he sighs and goes back into the basement. He knows he can never touch her again. He needs to leave the past behind him. But what does he have left? He does not have a future either.
“Ben?”
He snaps his head up when he hears his name, to meet his brother’s eyes.
“I’m fine,” he responds. Followed by a hurt growl. He is sitting on the chair in the basement where Patrick always keeps his tools to repair the robots. Now it is time to repair –again– Ben’s arm. And it always hurts.
“You could’ve come to the room and talk to her, you know,” Patrick says fixing his big glasses that are falling on his nose. And he brings out the tip of his tongue to the side of his mouth every time he has a hard time with Ben’s arm’s pieces.
“I don’t want her to see me like this.”
Like this he means half human half machine. A cyborg.
If he would be asked if he regretted joining Doctor Gallimore in his research after graduating the Academy he will say a categorical 'no'. Because he would not have met Lola otherwise. But when the doctor got mad and killed his partners from his Science team and almost killing him…
Ben lifts his left arm –the one that is not robotic– and pinches the bridge of his nose to keep that memory away. His luck was his brother. He didn’t let him die. Patrick spent day and night for years to create machine organs so that can be compatible with Ben’s body. After his brother succeeded, he became something that Ben cannot stare at in the mirror. A red glowing eye would stare back.
Now he hides in Patrick’s house and gets lost in the memories. The happy memories with Lola. And the dark ones with the doctor. Ben shoves with violence the tool box that stood on the table behind him. He told Gallimore that the Counsel will not agree with an underage clone. But that son of a bitch cared for that thing too much!
Patrick sighs and lifts the box. “So you will never tell her that you are alive?”
Ben looks at him, then at his arm that is wide open and the circuits are showing. “Why would I do that… when she is the one who is actually dead?”
