"Where is your brother?" asked Mrs. Kannenborg.
"He'll be here in just a sec, don't worry. I think he got turned around inside the thickets in the garden" said André with a wink in his voice. The guests were calmed, but Mrs. Kannenborg didn't appear to be so, but she trusted her son. She gave a quick glance towards Laurits, who in turn gave her a reassuring nod and smile. That gave her a bit more calm. Servants began to serve the food, and yet the chair for young Sylver was still empty. As everyone had been served - even a plate had been placed in front of the empty chair, making the lack of the child very obvious - the headmaster of the servants came to present the food. Before he did though, he discreetly asked Mrs. Kannenborg
"Will the young Lord Sylver not be attending the meal?"
To which André got up and moved rather quickly towards the patio and the garden. Laurits got up as well, though not as much in a hurry.
"Lord Sylver has probably just stumbled upon a group of frogs or a butterfly nest. Lord André and I will go bring him in; he probably was too engrossed to notice the bell" He said, before leaving the dining hall. As soon as he was out of sight of the hall, he ran towards the garden.
Laurits followed soon after, through the double doors to the patio and heard André calling for Sylver. He sounded scared and desperate. Laurits ran down towards the direction Sylver himself had run just mere moments before. He was seeing a clear path through the thickets and shrubbery, and though he almost had to crawl at certain places, he got through this Sylver's secret passage and he found himself in a small clearing. André was here too. He had stopped calling some time ago. Laurits saw why now: André was sitting on the ground, clutching the shirt Sylver had been wearing. His eyes were wide and he appeared so frightened; more than anything Laurits had seen before.
André looked up at Laurits.
"H-he's gone, Lau. He's just- just gone."
Laurits got down to level with André. He looked carefully around. Had he run off himself, or had he been taken? That was the first question in his mind. But there wasn't really any room for it to be a question. It was obvious to Laurits that Sylver had been taken. But the thing was, there wasn't anything - besides the shirt - that indicated so. It appeared as if Sylver had simply vanished into the thin air. But then why would his shirt be left behind? A kidnapper wouldn't leave that behind. Not unless they wanted others to know Sylver had been taken. But why would they want that?
"Put the shirt down, André."
"Wh-what?"
"Put it down. Get up, and walk back to the estate."
"What? Why?" Laurits didn't answer, "O-okay then. Oh!" and then André noticed. Not anything new that had happened, but simply the constellation of what was already happening; The Chief of Onseer Services of Meneades was sitting at the place where someone had disappeared. This had gone from a simple secret hiding place to a Scene.
