Lucas sat down next to me putting his tray of food down on the table. I picked the first empty table that I found because I didn’t want to sit next to a bunch of strangers, that would be awkward.
“What did you pack for yourself Charlotte?” Lucas asked me leaning in closer trying to see what’s inside my lunchbag.
“It’s just two sandwiches and a kit-kat.” I reply as I pull them out.
“Nice, kit-kat’s are my favorite candybar. Can I have a piece?”
“No, because they are also my favorite candybar. What did you get for lunch?”
“A sandwich and some carrots to eat and milk to drink.”
“Are you going to eat those carrots? ‘Cause if you don’t want them I’ll gladly take them.” I reached my hand over towards his carrots.
“Back off, these are my carrots!” He smacked my hand lighty.
“Ouch dude, that hurt!” I rubbed my hand and then unwrapped my sandwich.
“Sorry not sorry.” Lucas replied as he then took a bite out of his sandwich. For the next twenty minutes we finished eating and continued to catch up with each other.
DING, DONG, DING! The bell yelled letting us know that it was time to go. I stood up from my chair and gathered up all of my trash.
“Guess lunch is over, I’ll see you in Spanish class then?” I asked him as I threw my lunch away in the nearest trash can.
“Yeah, I’ll see you then.” He waved bye, flashed that pretty smile of his, and then turned around and left. I turned around and started walking off to my next class.
Gosh dang it, maybe I do still like him. I mean, who wouldn’t like him? He’s really nice and he has a great personality. He’s also very cute.
I sighed as I entered my next class. I looked around to see if there was anyone I was at least Acquainted with in this class. I saw Kayden and Maccon towards the back of the class. They were talking to some other people also and I didn’t want to interrupt their conversation so I took the closest empty chair near them. They were talking really loud and I couldn’t help but overhear what they were talking about as I was taking out some things for class.
“-idea that she was such a little bitch. But, at least we know the real reason why she was so popular now.” Kayden said as he crossed his legs while sitting on the desk. Maccon, Kayden, and the other person there started laughing.
“Yeah, and her little posse was no better. Their dads worked for her dad. I heard that Kaitlyn's dad was fired because of what she did last year.” I glanced and noticed that this mysterious third person had a tail and horns. I wonder if they can hide them or not?
I mean, hiding our features that made us not look normal to human standards was something we learned in elementary school. You weren’t allowed out of this town if you couldn’t hide any features. I mean, I guess we don’t have to since we’re in school right now, but everyone does it during class because there are a few humans teaching here. They are trustworthy and know our secret, but you never know what could make them just randomly expose us.
I’m really happy that we moved back here, I don’t have to hide my true form all the time. It’s a lot of work. This town is full of vampires, werewolves, demons, and whole bunch of other creatures. Every state has at least one town like this, some are safer than others. Our town, is one of the three safest in the world.
I felt someone tap on my shoulder. As I turned around to see who tapped me I accidentally knocked over my notebook.
“Hey, pay attention to what your doing!” It was Maccon that said this.
“I’m sorry, my bad.” I said as I picked up the notebook.
“What was your name again? Carrie? Kate?” I looked behind me and saw Kayden, did he really not remember my name? It hasn’t even been a full day!
“It’s Charlotte, Kayden. Do you need anything?” I was upset that he didn’t remember my name, so I strained to smile at him after I asked.
“Charlotte, what a pretty name!” This was the mystery person that was talking to Kayden and Maccon. They wore a yellow t-shirt with an unbuttoned brown cardigan. They had on faded yellow vans and rainbow tights under their blue jean shorts. They sat right on top of my desk.
“Uh, thanks. Class is going to start soon and y’all don’t mind I’d like to know why you’re here.” They are kind of annoying now. I uncrossed then re-crossed my legs under the table waiting for someone to respond.
“Me and Lizz just wanted to see if you made any friends at this school yet. You know, cuz your sitting alone and all?” Kayden flipped his short hair after he said that. He’s really sassy it seems.
“Yeah, how are you settling in here?” Maccon leaned onto the table and tilted her head slightly to the side. Just as I was about to respond Maccon started sniffing the air. Is she a werewolf?
She looked around and then seemed puzzled. She leaned closer to me and then sniffed me.
“Uhm…. what are you doing?” Maccon backed away and then whispered something into Kaydens ear. Kayden smiled really big and then looked at me. Mystery person jumped off of the table and went over to see what’s happening. They all look at me and giggle.
The teacher clears their throat signaling everyone to be quiet. Everyone goes and sits in their seats. I’m left to sit all alone.
