I stood with the piece of paper Adam hand handed me and watched as he walked away. I was surprised when I first saw him. I hadn’t know what to expect but he wasn’t it. He’s tall, thin yet muscular with long auburn hair that comes to his shoulders. He was dressed in black jeans and a black t-shirt.
“Do all teenage boys look like that?” I asked Jane as she led me into our room.
“Ah… you know what I’m not really sure. I’ve never paid attention.” I looked around the room, Jane had stuff everywhere. Photos of space, a diagram of the human body, a poster showing the food chain. Books took over the room, she had them piled on her dresser, bed and night stand. I picked up one and read the title, What Lies Beyond.
“Wow.” This girl really likes science. Jane smiled.
“Your stuff arrived early this morning, so I placed it on your side of the room.”
“Thank you.”
“Sure thing, if you ever need anything just ask.” I walked over to my side of the room which consisted of a plain white bed, a dresser and a night stand and a desk. I put one of the boxes on the bed and started to unpack. Unpacking was hard, it meant that all of this was real, that i was really going to be living here for the next two and a half years. I put a photo of me and dad on my night stand along with a stack of my favorate romance novels and a box of chocolate mints. After I finished with the last box I laid down on my now made bed, picked up my favorite book and began to read.
As days passed I found my way around the school. Jane was a big help, she was in most of the same classes as me so we spent a lot of time together. We found out that we have a lot in common and that made spending time together fun. We were on our way to the garden when I spotted Adam. He was running across the football field, a football whizzed through the air after him. I watched as he jumped into the air catching the ball, landing on his feet and continuing to run.
“They call him the Beast.” I looked at Jane.
“What?”
“That’s what everyone calls him, Beast. It’s because of how scary he can get when he’s playing a sport or if he gets mad.”
“Oh.” I was shocked to hear that, he seemed so nice to me. I stayed silent as I watched him make a touchdown and high five his team mates. I haven’t seen him since the day he picked me up from the airport. I wondered about him sometimes but I never had the nerve to call him. I know our fathers are friends but I don’t want to bother him, I feel like I was thrown at him by our parents… “Come on Jane lets go.”
