A bit of cruel irony there for Quartz. He faked his death by pretending to have a heart attack, and actually has one later on. In case anyone was wondering why he seemed so sprightly for a 9 year old... there you go. He wasn't really.
Probably a good thing too, because being driven to cardiac arrest by fear is probably the only way he could have been beaten.
