Jutte awoke with a start. Her breath was rapid, and her face was sweaty. Jutte looked around the room. Yūki and Maiko were sitting in the corner. Yūki had fallen asleep on Maiko's shoulder.
Suddenly, Maiko noticed Jutte had awoken.
"Ah! Jutte, you are finally awake! Are you hungry at all? Thirsty? Do you need anything?" Maiko asked quickly.
Maiko quickly and gently placed Yūki's head on a pillow and rushed over to Jutte, checking her forehead temperature with the back of her hand.
"Oh, you are still so warm, I will go get some medicine from downstairs!" Maiko exclaimed, rushing down the stairs.
Maiko didn't come back up for many minutes. In the time she had left, Yūki had awoken. She stretched her arms out, letting out a small groan. As Yūki looked over to Jutte, she beamed.
"Jutte!!! Hi!!!" Yūki exclaimed, quickly jumping up to hug Jutte.
Jutte cracked a small smile, "Hello, Yūki, how are you at the moment?" Jutte asked, surprisingly politely.
Yūki smiled, as though she were finally able to express her thoughts and could speak for an eternity.
"Right now, I feel really great! Like, really, really great!" Yūki exclaimed, full of excitement and energy.
"Yūki, you are so full of childish energy. Everyone else around here is like a bird in a cage or a Violet-Red-Bellied Coy in a bowl, but, you are not like that, you actually seem free..." Jutte responded.
Jutte rustled around in her bedsheets for a moment, pondering what else she could say to Yūki. She decided she should wait for Maiko, but she was feeling a lot better than she was before, she didn't think she really needed the medicine. Jutte wanted to get back out to the field and finally find a suitable crew to fly with her.
Jutte sighed, "Yūki, sit next to me while we wait for Maiko to come back upstairs, I do not like seeing you sleeping on the floor."
"Okay!!!" Yūki exclaimed, a smile forming on her face from ear to ear as she jumped onto Jutte's bed.
Yūki kicked her feet back and forth in bliss, she had always admired Jutte for her fierce attitude and her even fiercer speaking patterns.
Jutte smiled at Yūki, Jutte felt very at home and safe with Yūki. Jutte, like many others, thought Yūki was very cute and could not imagine her giving orders and leading the most important and special forces in the entire kingdom. Yūki led the Anti-Titan Squadron, a squadron designed to not only defeat Titans, a large and ancient being but also to carry out special tasks the kingdom needed to accomplish quickly.
"Yūki, you know, I actually really respect you as a person, you are very nice to me, so, thank you," Jutte said quickly.
Yūki beamed once more, "No problem! I like being nice! It makes everyone feel good!!!"
Suddenly, Maiko burst into the room, speaking very rapidly, "Sorry sorry sorry! I am so late, I am terribly sorry! I have the medicine, it is all okay!"
Jutte waved her hand to signal to Maiko that it was okay, "It is fine, Maiko, thank you for your help. The sleep last night was what I needed, I feel fine now. I am sorry for the trouble. I must have overworked myself."
Maiko sighed in relief, "Thank the Seven Heavens! I was worried that you would not recover for a while."
Yūki jumped off the bed and hugged Maiko, nearly pushing Maiko down to the floor.
Maiko smiled, "Anyway, Jutte, since you feel better, me and Yūki will get going now, we will check in later today just in case you start feeling worse throughout the day."
Jutte nodded, "Alright, I will see you later..."
Maiko and Yūki left the room, Yūki waving the entire time she was still in the room, and even trying to keep waving even when she had left. Jutte smiled and kept waving back at her, even when she had left. A void was left in her heart.
