I woke up in cold sweat. The room’s walls, ceiling, and floor were all white. “God?” I said, my voice cracking. “No,” a voice said. I gasped. “Satan? I knew I saw this coming,” I muttered. “NO!” the voice yelled. I jumped off my bed. “Do you have any food? I’m hungry,” I say as I look around. “Can I kill him?” the voice asked. “No, he is required for this project,” I heard in a different voice.
I looked upwards, and see four circles. Three of the circles were green, but one on the far right was red. “What’s that?” I asked, pointing at the red circle. “That means one of your colleagues is not awake yet.” the same voice said. “Colleagues? For what?” I asked. “You will be introduced to them before we begin.” the voice said again. “Begin what?” I thought. Shit.
The fourth circle turned green. “Hello, and welcome to this experiment, to be known as ‘1.7’” the voice said. “Why 1.7?” I said, although there were probably better questions so ask. The voice ignored me and continued talking. “You will have thirty one days to complete a given task,” the voice continued. I look around the room for any other clues as to what’s happening, but I only see my bed, and a box. I walk over and pick up the box, shaking it to hear what’s inside.
“If you look up at the ceiling, you will be able to see the other participants in 1.7,” the voice said. “Each of you have a unique or special quality, making you perfectly suited for this experiment.” the voice continued. “Bro, what’s your name?” I asked. The voice ignored me as pictures of the other participants were on the screen. “Our first participant, is a world-class magician, Marie Jin.” the voice said as her picture received a glowing border.
“Our second contestant, has survived the attacks from 9/11, and since then has become an escape artist, welcome Jack Lee.” the voice continued. The glowing border disappeared from Marie’s picture and started to surround another. “That guy looks high.” I said as I looked around for an exit. “Our third participant is known for having a memory that can outclass a computer’s, Michael Gray.” the voice said once more. “Hey, that’s me,” I said.
“And finally, we have Anastasia Griffin. Not much is known about her, but we managed to take a photo of her.” the voice said once more. I look up at the new photo. “Is that a fucking loli?” I thought to myself as I looked at the girl. “Now that you are all acquainted, somewhat, the rules will be explained to you,” the voice said. “I have a question,” I said as I rose my hand. I hear the voice sigh. “What is your question…” he asked reluctantly. “Is that a loli?” I asked, pointing at Anastasia.
The voice doesn’t respond. “There are 49 different rooms, and they are arranged in a seven by seven fashion. Each of you are placed in the middle room of each side respectively. Everyday, you’ll be able to unlock a room of your choosing, but it must be next to or in front of the room you are currently in. Each room has something special about it, possibly containing food, weaponry, or other items,” the voice explained. A video suddenly came up on the ceiling. “Does that mean we can meet with each other?” Anastasia asked. Her voice was distinctly childlike. She’s totally a loli. “Yes, it is possible. It is the decision of the participants to either work together or compete,” the voice responded. A second video appeared. “You said we needed to complete a task,” Jack said. Man, he sounded high too. “Yes! The task you must complete is very simple. You must find three artifacts hidden throughout the rooms. If nobody finds three by the end of 31 days, well… you can imagine what happens next,” the voice said with a chuckle at the end.
“Death?!?!?!?” I asked, panicking. The voice continues to ignore me. “Good luck, you may start by choosing the room you wish to enter.” I continue to examine the rooms. “How do I choose a room?” I wonder. “Right?” I yell confusingly. The wall to the right of me opened up. It was a room where the floor was grassy, and there was a river running through. “Damn, that’s pretty cool” I said to myself. I look at the river and see an object flowing through it. I run over and pick it up. “What’s this?” I wonder. I open the box, and there was something shiny inside of it. “Is this an artifact?” I asked. There was no response for a moment. “Michael Gray has found an artifact!” a new voice said.
“I should probably keep it safe…” I thought to myself. I dug a hole in the ground, and threw the box inside. “Hopefully that works…” I think again. I realize how hungry I am after digging that hole. There was a sudden noise. It came from the water, so I quickly walk over. There were fish swimming through the river. My room didn’t seem to have anything else to eat in it, so I walk into the river and try to grab one of the fish. After some practice, I finally managed to grab one, but it slipped out of my hands and back into the river. “This is gonna take a while” I think to myself.
An hour or so later, I managed to catch three fish and pry some bark off of a tree inside of the room. I peeled off the scales of the fish with my bare hands and pierce it with a stick. There was no steel around, so I was stuck by myself rubbing flint and rocks together. I accidentally dropped a fish into the fire. “WAIT, SHIT!” I yell as I realize that I dropped a fish into the fire.
I sighed and grabbed another fish. I slowly cooked this one, and it worked like a charm. I took a bite, ready to enjoy the taste. “This tastes like shit!” I yell in disgust. There were no other food sources to me at the moment, so I had to eat the fish no matter what. I took another bite, and a loud crunching noise came from it. I felt a sharp pain in my mouth, and the fish dropped to the ground. I had intelligently bit into the fish’s spine. I started to feel a stream of blood in my mouth, but I swallowed it. “Ughhhh,” I sighed as I layed backwards on the ground. This was gonna suck.
