Mackenzie quickly pulled out her phone, seeing 10 messages and 3 missed calls from Evie. She immediately called Evie back, but there was no answer.
She called again and still, there was no answer.
"Who are you trying to ring?" Jason asked, coming into the living room.
"My friend Evie, I was supposed to meet up with her for Coffee." Mackenzie said, trying to ring her again, holding her phone up to her ear. She moaned as the call when to voicemail again "-but she won't answer. I hope she's not angry at me"
Suddenly, Mackenzie's phone started to ring. She quickly looked at the caller ID to see Evie's name on the screen and pressed the green button.
"Hey Evie, I'm so sorry, I completely forgot about Coffee." Mackenzie began rambling.
"Mackenzie?! Someone just tried to rob me. I'm hurt, please come and get me." Evie bawled into her phone.
Mackenzie tried to act as calm as possible so that her dad didn't get suspicious. The last thing she wanted was for him to become super dad and try to get involved. She at least wanted to keep him out of it until she found out what really happened.
"Okay, I'll come now, where are you?" Mackenzie said, grabbing her keys from the coffee table.
"Church Street."
"Alright, I'm on my way." Mackenzie said, hanging up her phone.
"What's that all about?" Jason asked
"Evie is still waiting at the coffee shop so I'm just going to go." Mackenzie smiled.
As Mackenzie's hand touched the door handle, Jason stopped her.
"Mackenzie?" He called
"Yes dad."
"Please just be careful." He said, giving his daughter a worried smile.
"I will, don't worry." Then Mackenzie left.
She got into her car and drove towards Church street, bracing herself for what she was about to see.
If this attack really was just a robbery then she would obviously get the police involved, but if it was a vampire....she didn't want to begin thinking of what would happen. Not yet anyway.
