The burning sensation of rope against her wrists awoke Mackenzie from her sleep. Her eyes slowly opened to reveal the situation she had gotten herself into. With each slight movement, the rope tied around her wrists and ankles burnt her skin, making her wince in pain. How was she ever going to get off this chair?
The room smelled old, mouldy and stale. Damp grew on the ceilings and parts of the floorboards we're broken. The blinds were stained a horrid colour of yellow and the curtains were pulled shut, making the room dark. Shelves that were once drilled into the wall were now hanging by a screw as the ornaments that previously sat upon it were smashed on the ground below it.
Dust sat thick on all the furniture and the once white sofa now had black stains covering it. The white sofa was positioned behind Mackenzie as the wooden seat she was sitting on faced the fireplace.
Mackenzie's eyes scanned the unfamiliar room as she tried to remember how she got here. Her memories we're fuzzy and no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't remember anything. So many different ideas ran through her mind. What if this was all Thomas? Was he going to try to kill her?
Suddenly, the living room door handle jiggled and the door swung open, revealing Azazel. Mackenzie's heart raced. How did he get her?! She squirmed in her restraints as a shaky breath left her mouth. Azazel slowly walked into the room, wandering around it as he inspected each corner of the room.
He sat down on the dirty sofa behind Mackenzie and the sound of a chuckle filled the room as he admired how smart he was for pulling off something like this. Isaac was for sure to join him now.
"What do you want from me?" Mackenzie spat in anger. She was trying to sound brave, but in the inside, she was terrified.
"So she does speak! I didn't think you had a voice." Azazel laughed. "I don't want anything from you, you're just here for leverage."
"What?" Mackenzie asked, turning her head to the side in an attempt to see Azazel.
"When Isaac comes to save you like the superhero he is, he will have the choice of either helping me turn the town into vampires, in order to get you back or he can not help and leave you here with me. Of course we all know what he'll choose." Azazel said, getting up from the sofa and walking around so that he was facing Mackenzie.
"I won't let him choose me. If staying here means that the rest of the town stays safe, then that's what I'm willing to do"
Azazel smirked at Mackenzie, staring at her. She knew that Isaac would choose to save her, but she couldn't let him do that. Not if it meant putting the rest of the town in danger.
"Such a little saint you are." Azazel said, mockingly pinching Mackenzie's cheeks.
She turned her head from Azazel, and he dropped his hands from her cheeks.
Mackenzie kept quiet. Lashing out on Azazel was exactly the reaction that he wanted.
"If Isaac doesn't show up soon, I might just start getting a bit peckish." Azazel said, looking at Mackenzie mischievously.
He left the room, locking the door behind him, shutting Mackenzie in the dark. She pulled on the rope in an attempted to free her hands but she wasn't strong enough. The rope was beginning to leave red burn marks around her wrists and ankles and the more she struggled, the more the ropes cut into her flesh.
She slumped down into the chair, letting out a huff of frustration. All she could do was pray that Isaac wasn't the one that would come to help her. The voice of Azazel giving orders, entertained Mackenzie as she sat alone in the living room. She listened as he yelled at an unknown person, then the sound of a door slamming made her jump.
Mackenzie hated not being able to defend herself or not having the ability to get herself out of situations like these. She always considered herself to be independent. But now, she was just dependent on Isaac coming to save her.
She tugged on the ropes again in one last attempt, yelling in anger as they still remained tight to her skin.
The sound of the living room door handle jiggling once again, made Mackenzie's head snap up towards the direction of the door. She held her breath, fearing to think of the reason for Azazels sudden return.
It continued to jiggle and then sound of two voices muttering behind the door made Mackenzie's heart skip a beat.
"Please be Isaac. Please be Isaac." Mackenzie kept muttering to herself.
The door finally opened to reveal Andrew and Grace. A smile of relief spread across her face, realising that Isaac didn't come. Azazel's plan didn't work!
Andrew and Grace quickly rushed to Mackenzie's aid, untying her wrists and ankles. the low murmur of talking made the smile fade from Mackenzie's face. She could hear Isaac talking.
"Where's Isaac? We can't let Azazel-" Mackenzie began
"Cant let Azazel what?" Azazel said appearing in the doorway. He shoved Isaac into the living room with Mackenzie, Andrew and Grace. "When Isaac was trying to stop me from inviting him into the living room, your little plan became so obvious." Azazel said in a degrading tone of voice.
Andrew and Isaac really thought that they would have been able to pull of their plan smoothly, but of course there had to be a bump in the road.
"Look I don't mean to offend you or whatever, but 4 against 1? The odds aren't really playing in your favour" Andrew confidently said moving his hands up and down, pretending they were like an unbalanced scale.
Azazel chuckled, taking a step into the room. His hands were placed behind his back as if he were out for an earlier Sunday stroll.
"I think 6 vampires against 2 vampires and 2 pesky humans, puts me at a great advantage than you." Azazel smirked.
Suddenly 3 vampires grabbed Mackenzie, Grace and Andrew. Leaving Isaac standing alone to face Azazel.
Two more vampires appeared in the doorway and stood behind Azazel. If they were trying to be intimidating, they were sure doing a good job.
One of the vampires looked animist to Mackenzie. It was Kerrie from her school! Azazel had already started to turn people. He was using them to protect himself. They only thing that was confusing Mackenzie was, how did he get them to agree to protect him? Surely they wouldn't want to live out their lives, protecting someone like him.
"You see, I was going to make you a deal with just Mackenzie's life at risk however, since you really did push my buttons, I think I'll put all three of your friends lives on the line." Azazel said, wiggling his finger at Isaac as if he were telling him off.
The vampire holding Mackenzie tightened his grip, making it hard for her to breath.
"You either join me or watch your friends necks get snapped. Apart from Andrew, we'll just have to rip his head off." Azazel continued, smirking at Isaac.
Isaac glanced back at his three friends. He didn't want his friends to die, but he also didn't want to turn everyone into vampires. However, the choice was simple.
"What's it gonna be." Azazel said, peering down at his great great grandson.
"I'll help you." Isaac sighed, looking over at Mackenzie with sadness.
"No Isaac! You can't!" Mackenzie shouted, struggling to get out of the vampires grip.
"You lot seem to be persistent on trying to tell the old chap how to live his life. He's made his choice. You have 24 hours to get your things and move in here with me or else you can say goodbye to your friends." Azazel smiled.
"No. I'm living in my own home." Isaac said.
"Why? So you can plot against me?! I don't think so." Azazel said with disgust.
The vampires let go of Mackenzie, Grace and Andrew and they disappeared at Vampire speed.
"The clocks ticking Isaac." Azazel said, then left with his two vampires following behind.
The four left Azazel's house and made their way back to the cars. Mackenzie and Isaac got in one car and Grace gave Andrew company in his car.
"Are you okay?" Isaac asked, as he took off.
"I'm fine, but you're not. What are we going to do?" Mackenzie asked.
She could feel her palms begin to get sweaty. She didn't want to watch everyone that she ever knew, get turned into bloodsucking monsters. And she definitely didn't want Isaac to be the one doing it. Once the town folks was turned, Azazel would have no intentions in teaching them to control their thirst. He would allow them to feed whenever they want and on whoever they wanted.
They would soon go into the surrounding towns and feed on their people and of course the surrounding towns would catch on quickly. They'll storm right into Addington and kill all the vampires, just like they did in the 1800s. History was repeating itself.
"What do you mean 'what are we going to do?' I've already made the deal." Isaac said in an agitated tone of voice.
"I'm not letting him turn you into a killing machine!" Mackenzie exclaimed.
"What choice do we have Mackenzie? It's either you, Grace and Andrew die, or I help him turn everyone."
"You know he's going to want to turn Grace and I too." Mackenzie said, looking out the window.
Isaac never thought about that. With either end of the deal, Isaac was losing out. He slammed his fist against the steering wheel in anger, making Mackenzie's heart jump. she looked over at Isaac's who's face had turned red with fury.
"We need to do something." Isaac said, tapping his finger on the steering wheel.
"You could try to kill him when you go to his house tomorrow." Mackenzie suggested.
"Yeah, then have 5 other vampires kill me."
Mackenzie had never seen Isaac like this before. He was scared.
Isaac and Andrew pulled up in front of their house and they all got out of the cars.
Andrew left to go upstairs while Isaac, Grace and Mackenzie went into the living room, plopping themselves down on the sofa.
"Andrew suggested that we somehow lure Azazel away from his minions. That way we can kill him." Grace said.
"Minions?" Mackenzie laughed.
"Well yeah...they basically are his minions." Grace laughed.
Isaac scowled at the two girls as they laughed and joked. Did they think that this problem would just disappear?
A few moments later, Andrew returned with Evie following him downstairs.
"Thought we could use an extra pair of hands." Andrew smiled.
Although the group were trying to keep the mood light, they were all feeling a heavy weight upon their shoulders. The fate of the towns citizens depended on them!
While the group talked, Mackenzie couldn't help but stare at Evie's changed appearance. Regular feeding patterns were taking their toll on her. Her under eyes were darker than usual and her skin was deathly pale. Her hands had a subtle shake to them. It was like she was experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
"I have an idea." Isaac suddenly said. "On the first night that we start to turn people, I can somehow let you know where we will be and you guys can come and help me kill Azazel. We can get Thomas and bring Evie too. Maybe then we can intimidate Azazel a little."
"It's not going to be that easy." Grace stated.
"Do you have a better plan?" Andrew asked.
"I'm just saying, Azazel isn't stupid. He knew that by taking Mackenzie, Isaac would agree to helping him. He also knew that Isaac wasn't stupid enough to show up alone, that's why he had the other vampires. Azazel has probably thought of everything we could possibly do to stop him from turning the town." Grace reasoned
Grace was right. Azazel was 200 years old and he knew every trick in the book. The group didn't stand a chance against him.
"What do you suggest we do then?" Isaac asked.
"I don't know..." Grace trailed off.
Suddenly the door swung open and Thomas strolled in, giving a little salute to the group that was standing in the living room.
"Well it's nice to know that you're all keeping me up to date with what's going on." Thomas smiled, leaning against the stairs banister. "I really do appreciate it."
Everyone looked at Thomas with concern as he continued smiling, slowly making the smile fade from his face
"Isaac has agreed to help Azazel." Mackenzie bluntly said.
"Are you serious?" Thomas laughed, as he began walking towards Isaac.
Isaac glared at Thomas, making Thomas raise an eyebrow. "Oh, you really are serious...Are you crazy?"
"He was going to hurt Mackenzie, Andrew and Grace." Isaac said.
"So you decide to kill yourself instead?" Thomas scoffed, shaking his head in disapproval.
"What else was I suppose to do?!"
