Isaac watched Mackenzie as she peacefully slept. They both fell asleep while talking last night. It was nice to just spend time alone and for the first time in over a century, Isaac felt something that words couldn't begin to describe. Spending time with Mackenzie made him feel free, like he could do anything.
Never in 119 years had he ever felt this way about someone. Everytime he looked at her, he couldn't help but smile. She was his source of happiness.
How could someone have so much control over him? It was like she controlled how he felt, how he acted and she impacted the choices that he made. His large hand reached over and played with the ends of Mackenzie's hair
He chuckled as a quiet snore left her, then glanced over at the clock that sat on his bedside table. It was already 9:30am. The sun was high in the sky and creeped in through the bedroom through the gaps in the curtains. He had to leave for Azazels house soon. He leaned forward and planted a small kiss on Mackenzies lips.
"Wake up, I have to get going soon." Isaac whispered, placing his large hand on Mackenzie's cheek.
Mackenzie opened her eyes and placed her hand on Isaac's hand, pulling his hand from her cheek and intertwining their fingers.
"Good morning." Isaac smiled
A smile spread across her lips as she looked at Isaac.
"Morning." Her voice barely said.
Last night was the happiest Mackenzie had ever been for a while. Although, Isaac and Mackenzie only talked and kissed, it was still the best feeling ever. They talked about everything and anything and she got a better insight into what Isaac's life was like before he was a vampire. He came from what seemed like a great family, however all good things must come to an end. After Isaac went missing, his parents believed that he had been kidnapped and murdered. That was somewhat true.
After escaping the home that he was kept hostage in, he made sure to keep checking up on his parents and little sister. Six years after his disappearance, his twenty year old sister, Charity went missing too. Of course he and Andrew tried to find her, but he never did.
He searched 10 years for her, finally giving up to begin the grieving process. His parents had lost both of their kids within the space of 6 years, the pain was too much for them to bare and 2 years later, they got a divorce.
He told Mackenzie how he wished that he could have told his parents that he was okay. That he was alive and well. But his cravings at that time were so horrendous that he feared visiting his parents would lead to their deaths. However, he continued to watch over them until they both passed away years later.
Mackenzie couldn't begin to imagine what it was like to watch all your family suffer and die. She barely coped with her mother's death, never mind having to face her fathers death too. Mackenzie's mothers illness and death were both quite sudden, so she could somewhat empathise with Isaac and his loss. It must have been hard for him to watch his family go through such pain.
The two were snuggled underneath the bed covers as the house remained still.
"I wish you didn't have to go." Mackenzie said, her cheeks turning a blazing red. She felt so comfortable saying things like this to Isaac now, although she still felt a little embarrassed at times. She pulled the bed covers up to his face in an attempt to hide her cheeks from him.
"I have no choice, I have to do this." Isaac sighed. "Come on, lets get ready."
He jumped out of bed and went into the ensuite to get changed. Mackenzie got changed into the clothes that she brought over from her house, then they both made their way downstairs.
Mackenzie sat up on the breakfast bar while Isaac made cereal for them both. Andrew came into the kitchen and let out a loud yawn, he looked like he had been up all night.
"You look tired Andrew." Mackenzie stated
"I stayed up last night, trying to come up with a way that didn't involve Isaac having to go to Azazel, but I honestly can't think of anything that won't end up with one of us either getting hurt or dead." Andrew frowned, as he poured himself a coffee.
Isaac placed the bowl of cereal in front Mackenzie and sat down next to her. The kitchen was a mess. Plates and glasses were piling up in the sink from last night. Nobody had time to do the washing up. It was the last thing on their minds right now.
"It's okay Andrew. We'll just stick with me texting you guys when I find out what's happening." Isaac said, shoving a mouthful of cereal into his mouth.
"What if he takes your phone?" Evie asked, as she appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. She was wearing a cotton, violet night dress and was in her bare feet. She had grown quite comfortable around Isaac and Andrew.
Mackenzie looked at Isaac, he seemed concerned. Nobody thought of that. He dropped his spoon into his cereal and leaned on the table as he looked at Andrew.
"I'll figure out a way to get the message to you guys." He confidently answered, making himself almost believe his own lies.
After breakfast, Mackenzie and Isaac went into the living room with everyone else. Grace had came to say goodbye. Even Thomas made an appearance. The group were unsure of how things were going to play out and everyone felt on edge.
Nobody knew when they would see Isaac again, or if they would ever see him again. The thought terrified Mackenzie but she had to remain strong.
"I'll try to get his plan out of him today so be ready for a text. I expect him to want to get started as soon as possible." Isaac said, swinging a bag of his clothes over his shoulder.
Andrew nodded in agreement. He still wasn't happy with Isaac living with Azazel but what other choice did he have.
Over the years, Andrew grew to see Isaac as a younger brother. He felt a brotherly bond with him. One which could never be broken. They had been through everything together and trusted each other with their lives. And even though Andrew was a couple of decades older than Isaac, that didn't make a different to their friendship. They were inseparable. And just like a big brother, he felt the need to protect Isaac with all his might. They were family.
"Do what you have to do." Andrew said, pulling Isaac into a hug.
"Yeah, whatever you end up having to do, we will understand." Evie said giving Isaac a sympathetic smile.
Isaac smiled over at Evie, then looked down at the ground. He was scared. He knew that if he ended up having to try to kill Azazel, things probably wouldn't end well for him. It didn't matter to Azazel that Isaac was his family. Azazel would kill him in the blink of an eye without even thinking.
"Hey." Mackenzie whispered, walking towards Isaac. She placed her hand on his cheek, rubbing it with her thumb. "You'll be okay, I know you will."
Isaac placed his large hand on top of hers and gave her a sad smile. Mackenzie glanced past Isaac to see Thomas watching them. His eyebrows were knit together as he crossed his arms and looked out the window. What was up with him?
"I'll see you soon." He said, dropping his hand from Mackenzie's.
Isaac let out a shaky breath, then walked to the front door. He gave a small nod to the group, then left the house.
"Now we play the waiting game." Thomas said, plopping himself down onto the sofa.
Mackenzie felt out of place. It was strange feeling. She glanced around at everyone in the room as they did their own thing to take their mind off the situation.
"I need to get going, I'm going out for lunch with Mom." Grace said giving Mackenzie a hug.
"Alright, I'll se you later on." Mackenzie smiled.
Andrew paced the room as he muttered to himself, trying to come up with an idea to save Isaac. Evie sat on the bottom step of the stairs, tapping her foot. She grabbed a magazine that sat on a small table next to the stairs and flicked through it, pretending to read it. Then you had Thomas. he sat with his feet up on the coffee table as he flicked through the television channels on the large tele above the fireplace. Waht was Mackenzie supposed to do? She hated waiting around. Andrew stopped pacing and left to go upstairs.
"Mackenzie? Come here." Thomas said, not taking his eyes from the television.
She glanced over her shoulder at Evie would was still reading the magazine, then hesitantly approached Thomas, sitting next to him. He turned the television show up louder to make it harder for Evie to listen in on their conversation, then he turned to Mackenzie.
"What can you tell me about Liam Prescott?" He asked.
The sound of the tv blared in the background as Mackenzie gave Thomas a look of uncertainty.
"Yes...why?" She asked.
"I met him at the pub last night. He was telling me that e was friends with your dad. Was very nosy I must say." Thomas stated.
"Yeah, I don't like him very much. He's too cocky for me." Mackenzie chuckled.
"Well the reason I'm saying this to you is that he mentioned that he and your dad are doing a little operation of their own to find out what's been killing the people in this town. He mentioned that he was trying to find a vampire." Thomas said, making Mackenzie's eyes widen in shock.
Of course Liam knew about vampires! He did go wit Jason Tibet Mackenzie's necklace.
"Do they know about me, Andrew and Isaac? Did you tell them?" Thomas asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No! I would never tell them!" Mackenzie said. She was offended that Thomas would even think that she would tell Liam about them.
"Okay, well I just had to ask." Thomas said, putting his hands up in defence.
Mackenzie sat back in the seat and let out a sigh.
"He's going to be okay. He's smart." Thomas suddenly said.
A sad smile grew upon Mackenzie's lips as she looked over at Thomas. She give him a little nod and he smiled back at her.
"Let's watch a movie shall we?" He said, turning the sound down again. "Evie do you want to watch a movie with us?" He asked.
"Okay." She smiled, setting the magazine down and making her way towards Mackenzie and Thomas.
"Let's watch the maze runner." Evie suggested as she grabbed the dvd from the shelf.
She put the dvd before anyone could object, then plopped herself down on the sofa beside Mackenzie.
After a while, the movie came to an end and still there was no word from Isaac. Mackenzie stared at her phone, wishing the message notification would just pop up, but it didn't.
"I should get going. Text me if Isaac gets in contact." Thomas said getting up from the sofa.
"Okay. See you later."
Thomas left as the sun began to dip behind the trees, turning the sky Orange. Pink clouds were scattered across the sky and the traffic outside began to quieten.
"I think ill ask Andrew if I can stay here tonight." Mackenzie said.
"That's fine!" Andrew yelled from upstairs, obviously hearing Mackenzie with his vampire hearing.
Evie chuckled, getting up from the sofa and Mackenzie followed. They went their separate was as Evie went to her room and Mackenzie went to Isaacs.
She lay down on his bed and looked up to the ceiling. All she could do was just hoped that Isaac was okay.
*
The clock read 6:00am on Isaacs bedside table. She moaned as turned around to face...Thomas?
"HOLY SHIT!" She screamed, almost falling out of the bed. "What the hell are you doing?!" She exclaimed, feeling angry that he had been lying there while she slept.
He lay with his hands propped behind his head, smiling up to the ceiling.
"Good morning to you to." He cheekily said, not answering Mackenzie.
"What are you doing here?" She repeated again.
"Your dads friend decided to pay me a little visit last night."
The sound of the birds happily chirping outside echoed through the bedroom and Mackenzie waited for Thomas to continue telling her what happened with Liam.
"My house is in ashes Mackenzie. He tried to burn it down with me inside!" Thomas exclaimed. "I have no home now."
"Oh my God. We have to do something! We can't let him get away with that." Mackenzie said, feeling furious at Liam.
Thomas but his lip as he let out a sigh.
"Lying about isn't going to get Isaac back any sooner. Get up." Thomas said, swinging his legs out of the bed.
Mackenzie did as he said and jumped out of bed to start a knee day of figuring out how to save Isaac.
