She turned around to find and older man with a long scar down his left cheek looking at her, a creepy like grin on his face.
“B-boss”
“We’ve been looking everywhere for you girl, where did you go, we thought you had run off-you know the consequences of running of don’t you Clarinette”
She gulped and glanced down at the burns on her arms; they were already healed, but had left faint scars down each of her arms. She shivered as the memory rushed through her mind.
“I didn’t run away, I was taken in by a policeman”
“WHAT”
He walked towards her; her legs were trembling, stopping her from moving back. The grabbed the collar of her top and lifted her closer to his face.
“You didn’t tell them anything did you”
“I didn’t, I promise!”
He grunted before letting her go, he wiped his hand on his trousers before talking again.
“Then how did you get away”
“I-I lied to him”
“Good”
“He showed me pictures...of the woman you wanted me to get money off of...they were all dead...mutilated”
“So what, it happens”
“Did I do it?”
The man smirked at her, smacking his walking stick on the ground letting out a deep malicious laugh.
“Yes you did it, you killed all of them, so you see if you do tell someone it won’t be us that will get the worse sentence it’ll be you”
Clarinette fell to her knees, her eyes wide; tears were making their way to the surface. She pinched her hand in hope that she’d wake up from the horrible nightmare, but she had no such luck.
“Why can’t I remember such a terrible thing...why did I do such a thing?”
“Because you’re a monster Clari, I’m the only who thinks otherwise... because unlike others your useful”
She looked up at him, tears pouring from her eyes,
“Why did you make me kill them?”
“I’m afraid that’s business dear, you must get over it soon or I might just abandon you as well”
She nodded her head, wiping the constant flow of tears with her hands.
“I’m sorry boss please don’t abandon me”
He patted her hair, an evil grin etched into his face. She cringed at his touch but said nothing, not wanting the only person in her life that could help her complete her goal to disappear.
“Don’t worry child, you’re too useful for me to do so”
She smiled weakly at him, wiping the last of her tears away, leaving her eyes red and puffy.
“Come child we have stuff to do”
She nod’s her head and follows him along the road, her head facing down. The face of the detective floating around her mind, what do I do if I see him again?
James walked back into the station, his usual stern look on his face. He walked past his co-workers, not bothering to reply to their greetings and made his way to his office, planting himself down on the chair.
She wasn’t telling the truth, but what was it she was lying about?
He tapped his fingers on the desk as he thought about the red haired girl, she was different to all the others he’d seen and he’d no clue how to handle her.
“Ugh, this is so much effort, why did I ever think coming here was a good idea”
He leant back into his chair and groaned loudly, he had to figure out what she had lied about otherwise he’d dwell on it for far longer than needed.
“Jack!”
A young l blonde haired man popped his head around the door to look at James.
“Yes sir”
“Get me information about the residence for 11, Thornsbury road”
“B-but sir, you need to talk to the boss before you can do that”
“NO BUTS, JUST DO IT”
“Y-YES SIR!”
~~~~~
It wasn’t long before Jack popped his head around the door again, this time he held a brown file in his hand.
“Its residence is an old couple sir, why do you want to know about them?”
“Give it here”
Jack passed the document to him, watching as James flicked through the file he’d found for him. James glanced at Jack, stopping what he was doing.
“Jack”
“Yes sir”
“LEAVE”
“YES SIR!”
Jack left the room in a panic leaving James to finish reading the file he had received. His expression darkening with each word he read.
An elderly couple had been living there for over 20 years, no mention of any daughter or granddaughter anywhere.
He stood up, throwing the file onto the table causing the papers to fly everywhere.
“That little bitch lied to me”
