I open up the attic door. A disgusting smell hits me.

“Did a cow die in here?” I whisper sarcastically. As I go deeper into the attic, I realize it’s completely pitch black except for one light source. A single candle dancing its light across the walls of the room. As I come closer, I see the face of something. I see the carcass of a dead cow.

“Right on the money! Wait! Why is there a dead cow in here?!” Intestines seep out onto the floor forming a puddle and pile with blood. The eyes are taken out of the sockets, creating two tunnels where nothing can be seen inside. Slimy thick and thin strings dangle out of them, they almost resemble balloon strings.

A sudden noise distracts my attention from the cow. A tall shadow comes into the light. A figure of a male. Small whispering. The words “attic” and “lock” reach my ears. I reach out my hand and feel my palm along the attic wall. A small panel with a switch flows underneath my fingers, I stop moving my hand. I use one of my fingers to flick the switch upwards and slight noise comes from it. Light enters every corner of the room and as my eyes adjust to the light, I let out a sigh of relief. It’s only my boyfriend.

“Uuuhhhhh… Why are you in here?!” his voice comes out deep and low. It feels as if it’s traveling through my body. Little waves coursing through my blood. He peers down at the floor.

“This our attic duh! I can be here if I want to.” He raises one eyebrow and bites his lower lip slightly. My eyes trail over the carcass again. And then I place them back on him and notice he’s wearing a cloak and there’s marks and splatters of blood trailing all over it. A million questions come to my mind.

“Why is there a dead cow in here?!”

"Why are you wearing a cloak?!”

“Who’s going to clean up this mess?!”

He rolls his eyes and I hear him mumble something that sounds like “not me.”

“You want to repeat that again?” I say. His eyes wander around the room, seeming to be focusing on nothing particular. It was as if he was in another world, seeing something that i couldn’t.

“I was cooking dinner…..," he says, I raise my eyebrows.

“In the attic?!," I ask, doubtingly.

“Well...yeah...haha...surprise…” A nervous laugh comes from his mouth.

“And the cloak?," I reply with another question.

“I didn’t want to get anything on my clothes”, he says, all the while avoiding meeting my eyes, “Um, anyway let’s go downstairs, you can ask all the questions you want over dinner.”

“Okay, and what about the dead cow,” I ask.

“Oh yeah, that,” he says, like he almost forgot about the fact that there was a dead carcass in our attic.

“I’ll take care of it, you just set up the table please.”

“Alright, meet you downstairs,” I say, walking up to him and lightly pecking him on the cheek before I make my way down the attic stairs.

"uhhh...so you see....I'm this thing called...a demon....."

"Your a what?!!!?" I asked quietly. The statement doesn't register in my brain. Then I realize, he must be playing with me. Air bubbles fill my body up and the sound of laughter runs through my throat, out of my mouth.
