in the cat world cats are in a very perilous position in the food chain, they are both predator and prey. so being stated at or grabbed all the time is alarming to them, they feel hunted. the reason they like you is you show no interest in them which makes them feel safe(aka you won't eat them lol) it's why cat lovers don't actually get along with unknown cats, their own pet realizes they won't eat them but to a unfamiliar cat all that attention means they are being hunted and they don't like it.
