Evening set in, Sal sat on the back side of the roof to his house. He pointed a finger up to the stars. The city lights made them hard to see. He hummed a pleasant tune as the slight breeze made his hair flutter over his golden eyes. The peace of dusk was welcomed after the long day. "I wonder what tomorrow will bring?" He closed one eye and flicked his wrist like firing a gun.
"Oi asshole!" An older male (Seth Tamsin) poked his head out the sliding glass door. "Get your ass down here!" he called up to Sal.
"Shaddup!" Sal yelled back then leapt off the roof. The older guy crossed his arms and leered down to Sal.
"Food!" he raised one hand and pointed, with his thumb, to the open door.
"I got it!" Sal scoffed. "I was about to come in before you so rudely interrupted me, Seth!" he derided in a sarcastic tone.
"Liar! You've fallen asleep up there before!" Seth retorted in a serious voice. Sal laughed and walked inside. Sal and his brother lived together in Japan for 6 years. Their unusual looks and charisma led them to become quite popular. When Seth wasn't working, he was out and about, so naturally their home was a mess. Both tried their hand at cooking but neither of them was particularly good at it. The interior of the house had a 'bachelor pad' sort of vibe. "So, when are you going to bring a girl home?" Seth teased as they sat and ate together. Sal glared back. "You afraid they'll be so dazzled by my dashing good looks that they'll dump you?" He laughed suggestively.
"Gah! Keep it in your pants, old man!" Sal groaned. "Or are you into little girls now?" he cracked a sly smirk. Seth lurched back in disgust. Sal laughed hard and threw his dish in the sink.
"Y-you..." Seth frowned. "Brat!"
"At least I'm not a creep." Sal said and left for his room. "Got tryouts tomorrow, night loser!" he gave a short wave and exited the room. Seth cleared the rest of the table and plopped on the couch. He closed his eyes and sighed.
Tuesday: April 12
Sal sauntered over to the familiar group of people gathered in the courtyard.
"Tamsin!" Aren smirked and waved. Carmen sighed and face palmed. Kelly looked over with a blank expression then turned back. "Ouch."
"All the guys are gonna karaoke after class, you down for that?" Aren wrapped an arm around Sal and waved his other in front of them.
"Nah, man!" Sal shook his head. Aren reeled back and shot him a look of disbelief.
"But the girls?" Aren pleaded. Sal shook his head again.
"I got tryouts after class, dawg." Sal shrugged. Aren frowned. "You're flying solo today."
"But the girls!" Carmen imitated Aren in a condescending voice. Aren glowered at her. Kelly laughed arrogantly.
"No wonder you are left to cavort with such...rabble." She teased and gestured to the rest of the guys around. Sal grinned then started to walk again.
"You leaving?" Aren asked inquisitively.
"I don't NEED to practice but...who?" Sal's thoughts were interrupted by a lone girl leaning on a nearby wall. She had medium length white hair and crimson red eyes. “An outsider?” A grin stretched across Sal's face. He approached the girl and extended his hand. "Hey, I haven't seen you around before, beautiful." She giggled and turned away bashfully.
"I-I'm new here." She spoke softly. Her voice was quite mature sounding despite her young face. "You wouldn't mind...'showing me around'?" she pointed, staring at Sal's feet and trailed up his body to his face. Sal blushed in amusement. She looked down, also blushing and swayed her hips. "I was interested in trying out for a team, but I don't know where anything is. I figured a big tough guy like you would know where to go."
"Ha, I got practice myself buuuut I could make some time for a lady as ravishing as you." he said in a provocative tone. He reached up and brushed her cheek tenderly. She closed her eyes, her face burning brighter. Sal took her hand and led her around. Once he turned his back, her shy demeanor turned to one of annoyance. "I cannot believe this IDIOT is one too!" As the pair walked through the courtyard, the girl's eyes located a group of students huddled together. Among them was Sai, when the two locked eyes Sai choked back laughter. The girl scowled back. This wasn't a girl. Syrus, made up to look like a girl, followed along with Sal to the various courts and fields for various sporting events. "Oh!" Sal stopped and turned to him. "I never got your name." Syrus froze. "A name? SHIT!" His thoughts swirled around in his head until he blurted something out.
"Nakamura! Nakamura Shu..ri?" he closed his eyes feeling foolish. "Real original!" (His name is Kanamura Syrus.) Sal gave a gentle smile.
"Ah, what a lovely name!" he brought Syrus's hand to his lips and kissed it. "Don't punch him! Don't punch him! Don't punch him! I've already gotten expelled once..." Syrus struggled to smile back and giggled fakely.
"Thanks...handsome." he twitched. Sal lowered their hands and looked into Syrus's eyes.
"The name's Sal, Tamsin Sal." he gave another provocative look. "But for you Sal is perfect!" Syrus faked a bashful giggle and covered his mouth with his free hand. "Is this guy for real?" Sal finally led them to the shooting range at the far end of the track field. "Now I've got a special treat for you!" he took Syrus to a stall then grabbed a bow and some arrows. In the corner was a petite, motionless figure.
"Archery?" Syrus asked suspiciously. Sal gave a seductive grin.
"Anyone can hit a target, but it takes a true master to do it with such poise and grace." he boasted and effortlessly drew back the bow string. Once released, the arrow he fired flew with surprising force. A bulls-eye. "Wow, maybe this guy has some skill after all." Syrus clapped a little. Sal fired a few more arrows, drawing the shape of a heart on the target. "Alas we must part ways here, milady." Sal said after looking to the clock. Class would be starting soon. "Till we meet again." he knelt down on one knee in front of Syrus. Syrus instinctively pulled back and tugged down on the hem of his not quite long enough skirt. "No reason to be so...nervous." Sal assured provocatively. Syrus blushed. "That's not it you dunce!" Sal grabbed one of Syrus's hands and tenderly kissed at it again. His eyes widened when he caught a glimpse of the bandages under the blazer sleeve. "A proper gentleman must respect a lady’s privacy..." he thought to convince himself to leave it be. The two split up going to class. As they left, they passed by a girl with shoulder-length pink hair. Syrus groaned once Sal was out of earshot. "What a creep." Syrus couldn't go to his class like he was so he joined Sai instead. Sal pouted about not being in class with his new muse.
"I cannot believe that girl bought your act!" Carmen sighed.
"Oh, but it isn't an act, you just have terrible taste in men." Sal teased. Carmen's face flushed a little.
"Something seems off about that girl." Aren groaned as he leaned on his hands.
"Oh you're just jelly, bro!" Sal mocked. Aren rolled his eyes.
"No seriously, there has to be something wack with that chick if she's into you!" Aren jeered. Before Sal could respond, Kimura sensei walked in. Sal glared as Aren, Carmen and Kelly all laughed. Skai kept watch over them as class went on. After the first class ended, Jem and Mini went to him.
"Where's Kanamura?" Jem looked around in an exaggerated way.
"He didn't ditch us, did he?" Mini pouted. Tori perked up.
"Sis said something about a plan, remember?" He reminded them. "Trust them." The twins backed down reluctantly. Skai scratched his chin in thought. Kid smirked and nodded along obliviously. Carmen looked over to the group skeptically then to Alex, who seemed lost in a daze. "Today is a strange day." Not much changed from before as the rest of the classes went on.
At lunch Sal sought out Syrus, still wearing Sai's uniform.
"Hey baby." Sal winked. "The last few hours felt like an eternity without your stunning beauty." Syrus acted flattered but was actually perturbed by Sal's lewd behavior. He rolled his eyes as Sal brought him over to the rest of his group. Carmen inspected Syrus doubtfully, he struggled to keep his cool. Kelly smiled warily while Aren started to pester Syrus. He leaned in close to him and Syrus just smiled "And him?"
"So what's your deal?" Aren asked suspiciously. Sal glared at him, Syrus laughed it off. "Here goes nothing!"
"I'm new here." he timidly played with his hands. "I was hoping a bunch of athletic guys like you could help me…’fit in'." He said suggestively, resisting the urge to gag. The look on Aren's astonished face was priceless. His eyes wide and his mouth gaped open. He started laughing nervously. The girls rolled their eyes. Syrus squirmed around feeling disgusted in himself. He turned to find Sai. Once she spotted him, she smiled back. "You seriously owe me big time for this!" Upon further inspection he found that there weren't any others around. While reluctantly conversing with the gaudy popular crowd about an upcoming movie release, Alex walked by. He paused then stepped back.
"What do you think you're doing?!" he stared at Syrus, completely baffled. "Shit, he knows it's me?"
"I'm not breaking the dress code, am I, Captain?" Syrus asked sarcastically. Alex continued to gawk at Syrus's feminine get up.
"What do you want?!" Sal growled. Alex shook his head, raised his hands in the air and walked away, laughing quietly to himself. Syrus let out a deep sigh of relief.
Once lunch ended he parted ways from them and left for the restroom. He wiped off the make-up and changed into his own uniform. "Tamsin and Saveli, huh?" He lingered there until Yamaguchi sensei's class ended so as to not draw Alex's attention more than he already had. He grimaced as he washed his hands.
Sal moped in class as Carmen and Kelly ridiculed him. Aren fidgeted in his seat. Syrus seamlessly joined in when the classes headed for the gym. Sal continued to gush about what was actually him as Aren nodded along flustered. Arlin was still angry and didn't pay Syrus's absence any mind. Syrus spotted Alex. "Huh, what?" He was just standing in the hall leading to the showers, face turned down with an embarrassed look of denial. "Maybe he forgot?" Skai quieted Kid before he announced Syrus's return and they left the locker room. Jem and Mini ran over to them in shock and Sai giggled. Syrus glared back.
"What have you been doing?" Anya pressed. Syrus sighed.
"'Reconnaissance'." he looked away shamefully. The twins bounced around.
"Ooooooooh?"
"So what did you find?" Skai adjusted his glasses and frowned waveringly. Syrus looked to the boys he'd spent most of the day pursuing.
"Tamsin and Saveli." he answered. Tori turned quickly in disbelief.
"Aren Saveli?" he questioned in an enthusiastic tone.
"Uh...yes??" Syrus responded curiously. Tori looked to Sai.
"What are we going to do, now?" Skai interrupted the awkward exchange. While the group discussed ways to approach them, Kid snuck away. The popular crowd laughed at Sal having been ditched. He shrugged it off with a confident smile.
"Uh, hi!" Kid walked up behind him. Sal turned around hesitantly as Aren stared with doubt.
"What's up Sharpe san?" Sal raised an eyebrow. Kid smiled and made a small gesture with his hand before speaking again.
"My friends have something they want to talk to you about!" he pointed back to the group he'd left moments ago.
"T-Arata?!" Aren questioned in surprise but corrected himself. Sal shot him a dubious look. "We should hear what they have to say!" he declared passionately. Kid clapped his hands excitedly as Sal groaned.
"You too Dunley san!" Kid called out as he locked arms with her.
"Heey!" she shrieked. Kid winked back. She stopped resisting and Kid led them back to his group.
"We should just tell them!" Tori urged.
"Tell us what?" Aren gave a curious smile.
"AH! Aren!" Tori jumped back reflexively. Everyone looked at Tori in shock. "I-I mean Saveli san...hi." he turned away embarrassed.
"You know each other?" Sal glared at Aren.
"N-not really...maybe a little...yes." Aren's voice faded to a whisper.
"How did you?" Syrus looked at Kid with uncertainty. His eyes moved to Kelly and he instinctively grimaced.
"So what is this about?" She griped. As if this was a signal, Jem and Mini dragged Kid away. Skai, Syrus and Sai explained their roles as Guardians, Kid's nightmares and their previous altercations. Kelly looked at Syrus remorsefully. "Oh...sorry.'' She reluctantly apologized.
"I-it's fine..." he skittishly scratched at his head, hoping she wouldn't realize that it was him before. Sal stood there in silence, observing Skai and Syrus, while Aren pulled Sai away to talk privately.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" he lowered his eyes.
"I honestly thought you'd dismiss me." She looked at him with a hint of sadness.
"What! NO!" Aren grabbed at her arms then immediately pulled back. "I'd never turn you away, especially not over something like this!" he averted his gaze timidly.
"Save-" she spoke but was interrupted.
"For you, it's Aren." he paused. Before he could continue speaking again Sal came over.
"What's going on here?" he said suggestively. Sai laughed as Aren stepped back in shock.
"N-nothing!" Aren stammered. "Get out of here you perv! I’m not like you!" he pushed Sal away frantically, his face burning with embarrassment.
