Ria began pestering Teddy ever since he broke up her fight with Reese the previous week. Despite his composed authoritative demeanor back then, he was rather submissive in normal situations.
"C'mon Saveli!" she urged. "Join us at lunch today!" she poked him on the arm. Kori smiled and urged along with Ria.
"I-I can't..." Teddy's voice wavered and his face turned bright. "P-please leave me alone!" he pleaded weakly. Kobayashi sensei walked in and began his lecture, saving Teddy from further harassment. As class went on Ria made many less than subtle attempts to sway Teddy's resolve. Capella looked away, frustrated by Ria's carefree antics. Lunch finally arrived. Teddy dashed out of the room in order to avoid the mob after him. Both Ria and Kori laughed and made their way to the cafeteria. Ria spent lunch narrating her past adventures to her friends. She used to travel the globe with her family before her brother died in an accident. After that they settled in Japan 4 years back. Once they finished their last class after lunch, they headed to their lockers and prepared to leave.
"Your brother picking you up again today?" Ria teased as she poked Kori on the arm.
"Yeah..." she sighed in response. "He didn't use to be this bad, I swear." she rolled her eyes. Ria laughed.
BZZT BZZT
Kori pulled out her phone and sighed louder.
"Eh, what is it?" Ria cocked her head to the side.
"Something came up and he's coming to get me now..." Kori answered feeling frustrated. Ria laughed again. They stood around the entrance waiting for him to arrive. On the other side of the room sat Capella reading a book.
"Man, does that girl do anything interesting?" Ria said sardonically. "How boring!"
"You're just mad that she rejected you last week." Kori gave a wry response. Ria let out an annoyed groan. Teddy hurried out of the hall and headed to the door. The girls looked up in his direction. As he opened the door another person stood on the other side.
"Ah! Sorry!" Teddy stepped back and bowed. The person shook their head dismissively and walked by him. It was Syrus.
"Brother!" Kori called out. His eyes widened, and he quickly approached his sister and her companions. He gasped as he took notice of Ria.
"You're?" he stared in awe.
"Howdy?" Ria grinned back nervously. "Why is Kanamura's brother staring at me?" Syrus fake coughed and averted his gaze.
"Father hasn't come by, has he?" he turned his unsure attention back to Kori.
"No...?" Kori answered questioningly. "Wha-" Syrus pulled her aside, his gaze locked on Ria.
"How long have you known her?" he asked in a hushed voice. Kori glared back.
"Uh...since the start of school?" She examined his eyes skeptically. "What are you going on about, weirdo?" he lowered his head shamefully and sighed.
"Could you give us a moment?" he urged her away. Ria looked on at the two bickering siblings with confusion.
"Uh..." she poked her head between them. Syrus jumped back in shock. Once his eyes met Capella by the wall, they grew wider.
"Quit being such a creep, Syrus!" Kori barked at him. He ignored her sass and kept eyeing Capella.
"Wh-who's that?" he pointed to the lone girl.
"Evaline Capella...why?" Kori groaned.
"Is she your friend?" Syrus continued to question.
"No." she answered coldly.
"What could you possibly want with her? She practically never talks." Ria eyed Syrus warily. "Is he into little girls or something?"
"I need to speak with her." Syrus declared in a trance. He pulled out a small wad of cash and handed it to Kori. "I'll meet up with you later." Then he walked off. Kori blinked a couple of times, bewildered by the unusual exchange she just witnessed. Ria chased after Syrus.
"Oi! What's your damage?" she grabbed his arm.
"Could you keep it down, I am trying to read." Capella said callously. The other two looked to her with displeasure.
"Have you noticed strange things happening lately?" Syrus asked. Capella looked up
"Would right now count?" she responded brusquely. He groaned back, and Ria scoffed then let go of his arm.
"No, like voices or lucid dreams?" Syrus retorted with exasperation. "Or unexpected abilities?" Both girls froze. Slowly Capella lowered her book to her mouth and looked down.
"You too, huh?" she muttered.
"There are others. I can take you to them." Syrus whispered trying to not give off an unfavorable impression to anyone else.
"I have rehearsal later today, so make it quick, okay?" Capella pushed her book back in front of her face. Ria sneered and Syrus sighed.
"Whatever, let's go!" Ria grabbed Capella and pulled her up. The three of them left the school. As they walked off campus, Teddy watched suspectingly. They walked some distance until they reached the high school's unoccupied football [soccer] field. In the shade sat a number of students talking.
"So once Saveli san is finished with tryouts you and Kanamura san will show us how to do it?" asked a timid girl.
"Yes, once Kanamura gets back." a straight-faced boy answered bluntly.
"Hey, where is he anyway?" an enthusiastic girl asked.
"Right here." Syrus answered, catching the group off guard.
"Why'd you cut class?" the other twin asked. She was about to continue on until she caught sight of Syrus's two new companions.
"Hi..." Tori waved sheepishly to the young girls.
"WAH! Upperclassmen?" Ria cheered. Capella sighed and rolled her eyes.
"He said you had something to tell us." she groaned in disapproval.
"They're-" Anya gasped in disbelief.
"Kids." Sai finished the thought.
"Seriously?" Kelly sat up and inspected them. Sai and Syrus nodded.
"Are you in any position to doubt me on this?" Syrus glared at Kelly.
"That makes 12!" Sal interrupted as he lounged back. The pair looked at the group in confusion then Skai adjusted his glasses and began explaining the details and introduced everyone.
"Hmmm, that...makes sense." Capella uttered. Ria bounced around.
"Whooooooo!" She threw her arms in the air. "That explains so much!" The twins smiled along with her. Capella looked over the group again dubiously.
"Please tell me you aren't all like that?" she lowered her head. Sai laughed.
"Just them really." Syrus shrugged. Jem stuck her tongue out at him.
"What was all that about transforming?" Capella looked to Syrus.
"That's what we're about to teach everyone." Anya smiled as she answered.
"We're just waiting for the last one." Tori said and pointed toward the school's track. A group of students were gathered and prepared for team tryouts, among them was Aren.
