I yawned, sunlight was creeping in through the window, warming my face. Mmm, that felt nice. The pillow I was laying was also warm, and smelled really good, like fresh mountain air. I didn’t want to move, this was perfect. Wait a minute. I did live anywhere near the mountains, also pillows were not warm. My eyes shot open, the brightness stung them, and my arms and legs were stinging. Also, my head was dead throbbing. I sat up. There were white bandages wrapped around my arms and legs, I didn’t remember doing that. My arms were also bound to the bed, preventing me from going anywhere. I glanced next to me and screamed. It was the angel from yesterday, all the memories came flooding back, me shooting him, like twice, him coming back to life, what the heck had happened! How was I not dead, did he not kill me, and where was I? All the thoughts buzzed through my head. Then I realized his chest had been the good smelling pillow and he must have bandaged me. OMG, I didn’t have pants on, he saw me in my underwear, well at least it wasn’t embarrassing underwear, but still. What had I done, did we? No, we couldn’t have had, right? All the thoughts and questions flashed through my head. The angel bolted upright, oh, yeah, I screamed. I had forgotten how handsome he was. I tried to read his expression, he looked ready to attack, but then his expression quickly changed once he saw me, what the heck? The angel climbed out of the bed. I stared, he had shorts on, thank god, but no shirt on and his sculpted chest was on display, showing off abs and a lean torso, that was mouthwateringly gorgeous against his olive skin. I struggled to bring my gaze back up to his face, which was expressionless and icy cold. “Hello there.” He said, his voice melodic. “Hi.” I managed to squeak out. “I’m sure you have lots of questions, but let me make this clear, you are my prisoner and I intend to make you suffer for your feeble attempt to kill me.” He said coldly. I shivered, I was a prisoner and I was going to suffer, fantastic. It beats being dead though, right? “Do you have any questions? Now would be the time to ask.” He said stepping closer. I gulped, mine as well get it all out. But all I managed to get out was. “Who are you?” I whispered. I wanted to smack myself, he had taken me prisoner, and you want to know his name, Adelina what is wrong with you? He looked taken back for a moment. “My name is Caspian.” He said and with that, he left. Caspian, I liked it, it sounded angelic. I cursed myself silently, you did not like it you are his prisoner you dimwit. But then I wondered, had anyone asked for his name before. OMG! Adelina, your seriously thinking about the bringer of the apocalypses' feelings. I just sat there in my own thoughts for a minute, then I realized I still had more questions and I was tied up. “Hey! Wait! I still have more questions! Caspian!” After about an hour of yelling for him to come, he didn’t, so I just gave up and fell back asleep. I think it was the next day when I woke up again, I peered up as Caspian entered the room, he had a shirt on now, but his icy eyes still pierced me, sending shivers through me. He sat down next to me on the edge of the bed. He undid the bindings tying me to the bed. I put my hands into my lap, rubbing my sore wrists and sat up. “Why did you bandage me up?” I asked, I thought he intended to “make me suffer”. He looked at me, it sort of looked like his expression had gotten softer. Interesting. I tilted my head in wonder. “Because you were hurt.” He simply said. “I thought you wanted to make me suffer.” I said. “Yes I do but I don’t want you to die, it could have gotten infected.” He said. I nodded. “Why? Why did you take me prisoner and where are you taking me and what are you going to do with me?” I asked, why not just kill me? “Because you tried to kill me and now you will suffer, I will bring you to the council and they will decide your fate. It will take about a month or two to get there. I have never killed a human directly before and I ran out of bombs, so I took you prisoner. We will probably stay here for a week or more.” He said then got up and left the room. I sighed, this was fantastic. I was a prisoner, I was going to the angel council and they would decide my fate. Which was probably a really painful death but at least I got to live for another month or two, I had expected to die two days ago. Mine as well make the best out of it even though he was going to make me suffer. But if I ever saw a path of escape I would take it, even though he was being really nice. I climbed out of the bed. Time to find some clothes and get cleaned up. I hobbled over to the closet and opened it. Well, I guess no women lived here. I did my best and found a really long shirt and belt, I was going to look ridiculous. I grabbed the clothes and made my way to the bathroom and locked the door. I looked in the mirror and my mouth fell open at what I saw. There was a huge ugly purple bruise on my forehead, where I had taken off the bandages were deep gashes, probably from when I had fallen/rolled out of the tree house, and I had dirt plastered in my hair. Yikes. I turned and looked at the cuts on my back, along with the scars I had. When I first lost my parents, I had gone to a foster home and they had beaten me pretty bad, now I had scars on my back. I turned the shower on and disposed of my horrendous clothes, I loved them dearly because they were the only clothes I had that looked decent, but they had gone beyond repair. I stuck my hand in the shower. Ah, it was hot, I hadn’t had a warm shower in years, they were so rare these days. I stepped in and the water flowed over me, I sighed. I grabbed the soap bar and started scrubbing, it hurt brutality but it was better than infected cuts. After I dealt with the injuries, I went to my hair. In the middle of shampooing my hair, I heard a noise by the door. What the heck? I ignored it, continuing. A minute later, the door was busted down, wood splintering everywhere. Shocking me. “Human!” I heard Caspian’s melodic voice shout, was that worry I heard in his voice. I screamed and went I tried to reach for the curtain, I slipped and the whole thing came crashing down onto me. I peered up at the mess. Caspian was staring at me with a strange expression on his face. I stared at him in horror and glanced down making sure all the important parts were covered, they were, thank god. “Uh, hey.” I said, giving a slight smile. Well, this wasn’t awkward. I was naked, covered in soap, sitting in a shower with the shower curtain draped over me, wood was splattered everywhere, and in front of me might be just the most gorgeous guy ever. Caspian stiffed, then slowly backed up. “I couldn’t find you, I thought you might have run off, now I have seen that you didn’t, um finish up, I made dinner.” And with that he left, shutting the remainder of the door. Made dinner? Huh, I thought I was supposed to be suffering. I stood up and fixed things as best as I could. I got dressed quickly and tied my hair in a messy bun. I took a glance in the mirror. I looked hilarious in the long shirt and belt, but oh well, desperate times calls for desperate outfits. I walked out of the bathroom and found the kitchen. Caspian was at the stove stirring something in a steaming pot. His wings were neatly folded on his back, even in normal clothes, he looked so good, though he looked better in his armor. He glanced at me and laughed. “What are you wearing?” He asked. I ducked my head, biting my lip. “I, there was no other clothes so I, improvised?” I said, shrugging. I noticed that when he laughed two cute dimples appeared on his cheeks, I liked that and when he laughed, he seemed more, human, not some evil psychotic being come to kill us all. Not that he was an evil psycho. I scolded myself, no you do not, absolutely do not like anything about him Adelina. I walked and went to go stand next to him. “Whatcha making?” I asked. “Pasta.” He said. “Oh, also my name’s not human, it’s Adelina.” I said, I had forgotten to tell him earlier. “Adelina.” he repeated, slowly sounding it out. I nodded. He turned to me, his icy eyes glazing over me. “You can go sit down, the food's done.” He said. “Ok.” I went over to the table and sat down. Caspian came over with a bowl. There was tomato sauce on the spaghetti and a bunch of small meatballs scattered around. He set a plate in front of me and scooped some on my plate and handed me a fork. “Thanks.” I said, grateful for the food. Caspian sat next to me and got a plateful for himself. “Caspian.” I said. He looked at me. “Yeah?” “I’m sorry I tried to kill you.” I said, I really was, I hadn’t wanted to. “It’s in the past, it’s not like others haven’t before.” Caspian said. “Others have?” I asked, my voice almost breaking. That was so sad, I mean I guess other people have, but still. I couldn't imagine, multiple people hunting me trying to kill me. He nodded. “I didn’t want to do it. In the town, we have this forced lottery and I was chosen along with this guy but he killed himself. I had a sort of plan, but as you know that did not go as planned. I’m so sorry, I know sorry doesn’t cut it, but I am, I never even harmed a single thing before. I didn’t want to hurt you, or anyone else.” I said a few tears slipping down my face, I looked down, avoiding Caspian’s gaze. I felt a warm hand brush softly against my cheek. I looked up. Caspian had brushed the fallen tears off my face. “There is no use in feeling sorry or crying, I told you it’s forgotten and forgiven. You never know how long you are going to live. You mine as well live it to the fullest, because what is the point of living the rest of it unhappy.” He said. I stared at him, taking in his words. He was right, we shouldn’t dwell on the past, and instead, focus on making the present count. But how could he forgive me? I tried to kill him, I haven’t forgiven myself, and he said this wasn’t even the first time. Humans were cruel. “I kind of get why you are exterminating us.” I said. Caspian stared at me like I was insane. “Some of us are cruel, violent, disastrous. Me included.” I said, the latter so quietly I could hardly hear myself, I was ashamed, no matter who it is they don’t deserve to be killed like that. Caspian was just quiet, expressionless. I stood up. “I’m going to sleep now.” I said, walking to the bedroom. I sat down on the edge of the bed, I took off the belt, the shirt just hung loosely now. I should try to run away if I wanted a chance to live. If he caught me though, he would probably punish me badly, he had been really kind now, I had not expected that. He had cooked dinner, like what? What kind of prisoner was I? But he was leading me to my death. I put on my boots, getting a flashlight and grabbed a wooden stick as a weapon, well this was fantastic. I looked out the door, Caspian was not in sight. I went back to the bedroom. I opened the window and climbed out. I bolted, running as fast as I could in the night. It was pitch black out, only the moon providing a scarce light. I wouldn’t use the flashlight yet, I could see a little and I didn’t want to waste the battery. The air was a little chilly, I could feel the goosebumps forming on my bare legs. After about a minute or two I heard a frustrated yell come from the direction of the cabin. Crap, Caspian was coming. I needed to find a place to hide. I looked around frantically. There was nothing. I hurriedly climbed up the nearest tree, about ten feet up. The leaves were mostly hiding me, but you could spot me if you looked hard enough. I heard the rustling of leaves getting closer. I held my breath. The rustling stopped. I felt a sharp jab, as something struck my leg. I screamed out in pain and fell out of the tree. I hit the ground hard, the thing the struck me was shoved further into my leg. Tears streamed down my face, I had to get up. I pulled myself up and broke into an agonizing sprint. I looked down, there was a dagger in my leg. The pain was getting unbearable, and the rustling that had picked back up was getting closer. As I wasn’t paying attention, or getting delirious, from the loss of blood, I hadn’t noticed the steep slope coming up, and I fell all the way down it. At some point, I ended up hitting my head on something, and the world disappeared.
