Pain, the pain was everywhere. Everything hurt. Ugh, what the hell happened. Nevermind that I knew exactly what happened. I was stupid, tried to run away, and failed, failed miserably. I cracked my eyes open, it was dark out, well what I could see through the window, which was now boarded up for obvious reasons, and with the lamp on the dresser beside me. I was in the bed. I glanced around, I didn’t see Caspian and the door was closed, but I was never going to try to run again, I had learned my lesson, big time. Plus I didn't’ think I could. I yanked the covers off of me to asses the damage. There were bandages all around my legs, my arms, my abdomen, and my neck. I considered peeling them off, but I really didn’t want to see. Wait a minute, I looked at what I was wearing, or more of lack of wearing. I was in my underwear, again. I groaned. I needed water, and I didn’t see any in the room. I sighed, I was going to have to get up. I maneuvered to the edge of the bed. Slowly I pushed myself up, gripping the dresser. Pain shot thru my body. I winced and placed a foot forward. Then I placed my other foot forward. I tried to take a few more steps but failed miserably. I tripped over my feet and hit the ground with a loud thump. I cried out from the pain, well that was a horrible attempt, just like my escape. Caspian came rushing in, he looked frustrated. “Stupid human, I showed you kindness and this is how you repay me? Stay in bed, do you want me to bind you to it again.” He mumbled as he lifted me off the floor and placed me back on the bed. He looked at me fiercely. “Stay.” I nodded, my throat to dry to speak, I still needed water. He exited the room. Great. A few seconds later he came back holding a glass of water and a bowl of soup on a tray. I stared greedily, he read my mind, I wondered if angels could do that. I sat up. He placed the tray on my lap. Mmmm, it smelled so good. He handed the glass to me. I eagerly took a sip. “Thank you.” I said hoarsely, setting the glass on the dresser. Caspian nodded. “Just don’t run again, I didn’t enjoy hurting you.” I raised an eyebrow. “I thought you wanted to make me suffer.” “No, I just said that because I didn’t want you to run.” He said, bitting the bottom of his lip. He wasn't telling me something. “Why? Why are you doing this? Why not kill me? Really?” I asked, my eyebrows scrunched together. “Because I don't like to kill, some of the other angels like to kill, they enjoy it, I don’t. I don’t think it’s right to kill off an entire species. I intended to make you suffer for trying to kill me, but I couldn’t. So now your just my prisoner, but if you do try to run again I will hurt you. I’m taking you to the council because I don’t want to be the one to kill you and I don’t want the other angel in North America getting to you.” He said. My wandering thoughts had been semi right. Some of the angels didn’t like doing this, but some did. “Why do you do it then.” I whispered, afraid of his answer. His expression sobered. “I don’t have a choice if I stopped the rest of the angels would kill me. I try to not get to the destination by going as slow as possible, and I make it a quick painless death. When I first came here, I was about seven, we had no memories, just our names and what we were supposed to do. The only angels with their memories were the elders, but they didn’t care to share anything.” He said, anger creeping into his voice. My heart dropped, he was forced to do this, against his own will. He came with no memories and was probably separated from his family. How could his own kind be so cruel? “You don’t remember your family?” I asked. Caspian shook his head. My heart broke for him, he couldn’t even remember his family. “I’m so sorry Caspian.” I said, he was suffering just as much as me. He gave a small smile. “It’s ok, you don’t miss something you can’t remember, sometimes I think it would just be easier to die, but that would be painful.” He said trailing off. “You can die? I thought you were immortal or something.” I said, I mean I had shot him pretty badly. “No, we can die, but it’s a lot. You have to take out our heart and separate all our body parts. Like I said, very painful” He said. I frowned, this was getting too sad, time to change the topic. “So how long was I asleep?” “About four days.” He replied. My mouth gaped. What! “Four days?” Caspian nodded. “Yeah, you were seriously injured, it was expected for you to be unconscious for a while. You still need more rest.” “What exactly happened?” Like how injured had I gotten, didn’t I only fall out of a tree, or maybe I had things confused. “Well after I hit you with the dagger, you fell out of the tree, then you ran away, but ended going down a steep hill. You hit a lot of things on the way down and got a bad concussion. You most definitely need rest” He said, pulling the covers higher over me and taking away the empty soup bowl, I had finished, his fingers brushed my hand, sending tingles up my arm. Heat crept up my face. I stared at him. It seemed like his blue eyes were sparkling and there was a warm golden glow around him. Man, I had really hit my head hard. “You’re glowing.” I mumbled, suddenly really tired. I slipped further under the covers. Caspian looked into my eyes, amusement, and shock in his expression. Mmm, that was nice, it was better when he was happy. The drowsiness finally took over and I slipped into the darkness.
