Thomas is shaken from his trance by Roderick Chisholm -- Chief Ships Draughtsman in the employ of Harland and Wolff along with Thomas Andrews.
Chisholm was on board the maiden voyage of the Titanic as part of the "Guarantee Group" - 9 employees of Harland & Wolff aboard the liner to carefully observe the vessel her first time out on the open ocean and would have eventually been charged to make improvements and tweaks to Titanic before starting her life as a Trans-Atlantic runner.
