River rested on the boulders, looking out over her territory. She watched as the wolves ran around, finishing up their small trips before heading to bed. She smiled down at everyone and stood up. She felt her mate brush up against her, letting a low growl like purr out. She smiled at him, nuzzling his chest fur. She jumped down from the rock and walked to the canopy of trees, hearing paw steps behind her.

Birch Wood smiled as he caught up with her, and walked beside her, licking her cheek in the process. River smiled and looked ahead and kept walking, stopping as they reached the river. She took a drink from it, licking her lips happily. She looked at her mate and saw his ear twitch, making him look around.
He saw two bright yellow eyes in the bushes, a dull and threatening look glazed over them.

Birch Wood growled and snarled at the creature, watching as they jumped from the bush. A large male wolf jumped from the bushes, his eyes glowing in the moonlight. He looked around, scanning the area. His eyes landed on River, a smirk tugging at his lips. He stepped forward, glaring at the other male. Birch Wood barked at him, guarding his mate protectively. He swiped at the other male, growling at the newcomer.

River's eyes were wide, her paws were frozen to the ground. "We have to run!!" she yowled, retreating to the valley. Birch Wood chased after her, leaving the large male by the water.
