The phone on the dresser was chiming loudly, reminding me I had school today, I groaned and pulled myself out of bed and shut the alarm off. I trudged over to my closet pulling it wide open. I found a cute dark blue shirt and some blue jeans, then I slipped on my back and white converse. Good enough. I went over to the bathroom and stared at my reflection, my golden yellow eyes stared back at me, I grimaced and found my contacts that returned them to a natural blue color, like the rest of my family, no one but them knew about this secret. After, I brushed my hair and applied some makeup. Once I was done I rushed downstairs. Ethan was already sitting at the table eating a muffin. “Morning’ Ellie.” He mumbled, muffin still in his mouth, some of it falling out. I laughed. “Good morning to you to, disgusting.” I said. I grabbed my backpack, the car keys and an apple, then walked out the front door, Ethan came scrambling out behind me. I shook my head, some things will never change. I got into the car and started the engine, as Ethan climbed in, once he was in I backed out of the driveway and started down the road, toward our wondrous school (Not really, it was quite the opposite). In the school parking lot, I spotted Naomi, I quickly parked the car and handed the keys to Ethan, we had to take turns, that was the deal with our parents, it was annoying, but we managed somehow. I raced over to Naomi, peering at her schedule, then looking down at mine. We had the beginning half of our day together and lunch. First we had English. We headed inside the crowded school, the halls swarmed with students. Once we found our lockers and dropped some notebooks and textbooks off, we headed to the classroom, and sat in the back, soon students began piling in and the only spot left was next to me on the right, Naomi was sitting to my left. I hoped no one else would come, it was nice to have some empty seats. I had no such luck, not that I’d ever had any luck in the first place. As the teacher, a short man with graying hair named Mr. Wellington, was trying to quite the class, a new person stepped into the room, I turned from my conversation with Naomi, we rarely got new students. I stared, warmth spread through me. Dang, the new guy was hot, like model hot. He had pale blonde hair, but it looked completely natural and not tacky, like some girls at school, he had a tall muscular frame, and gorgeous golden amber eyes, just a tad darker than my natural color, he was dressed in a simple white t-shirt and jeans, but he was definitely the most attractive guy I had ever seen, even more than Leo, which was hard for me to admit. His eyes met mine, and stayed there for a few moments, heat spread throughout my whole body and a delicious smell of fire, woods, and mountains filled my nose. Ahh, what was that, and why did it smell so good, it seemed like it was the new guy, but it couldn’t be, right? No one smelled that good, and by now I probably looked like a tomato, and felt like I was on the verge of passing out, this was so overwhelming, especially since the skin on my arms were getting itchy. Ellie, chill, what is wrong with you? I swallowed a lump in my throat, and looked away before I fainted or did something embarrassing. Naomi was looking at me and smirking. Oh dear god no. “Look who has the hots for the new kid, forgotten about Leo already.” She said laughing. I flushed even more, and kicked her. “Oww!” She hissed. “I do not.” I muttered to her. I absolutely did not “have the hots” for the new kid, nope, nada, zip, he probably was a jerk anyway, he was someone to stay away from. Back up front Mr. Wellington stood next to the boy at the front of the class. “Guys, this is Seth Lakotos, one of our new students this years. Seth, um.” He said eyes glazing across the room, then landing on the open seat next to me. Oh no. “You can take the open seat next to Ellie.” Seth nodded, then headed in my direction, sitting in the seat next to me, he glanced at me, expressionless, but his golden eyes locked onto mine, warmth flowed through me along with the wonderful scent from before. So it was him. I quickly looked away and focussed back to the front of the room, wear Mr. Wellington was going over what we needed for the year. I could feel Seth’s gaze still on me, but I refused to look, I just took deep breaths and listened to Mr.Wellington, but it was getting worse, I clawed the inside on my palms, trying not to focus on the scent or the warmth spreading through me. Eventually the bell rang, and I bolted from my seat and into the hallway, I went over to my locker to grab what I needed for the next class. When I closed it I found Naomi standing right next to me raising an eyebrow. I swallowed, she always had ways of getting me to admit things, things I didn’t even know I was keeping hidden. “You, what happened in class? I saw you clawing your hands, let me see.” She said, I sighed she always noticed all the little things I did. I lifted my hand up and showed her my palms, which were red with nail marks. “Ellie?” “Nothing, I just must be coming down with something.” I said, coming up with a more reasonable explanation than what really happened. Naomi gave me a look, she knew I was lying but she didn’t press the matter, thank god. But what was I supposed to I say? Oh I felt like I was on fire but not in pain and Seth’s smell was overwhelming and he was ridiculously hot and distracting. Absolutely not. I cleared my thoughts and focused on getting to my next class without having a panic attack. “Let’s go, before we’re late.” I said to Naomi, then started off down the hall and over to our next class.
