Chapter 1: - The Beginning
The night was calm and the guards had just changed shifts. A cool breeze was blowing through the castle grounds and was a relief to the sweating guards.
“Gods almighty, it’s hot!”
“Well at least we got the night shift. Imagine what its like at midday!”
“Yeah, I s’pose. I heard that Nali fainted.”
“That doesn’t surprise me. He’s girlier than Ylime!” Both guards laughed.
“Y’ got that right!”
The planet of Gejit had hardly any threat to it and no one on the planet posed a threat to the royal family so the guards just stood there and chatted. But little did they know, round the back of the castle two dark figures sneaked in the darkness. Suddenly one of the figures walked into a tree.
“Ow, son of a”
“Shut up. We can’t send Him the transmitter if we get caught.” Picking the leaves out of their hair, the second figure replied with an edge of snappiness to their voice.
“All right, all right. I still don’t see why we have to help kill them. I mean she is my best friend,”
“But you want her off the throne so you can be the leader, right?”
“Well yeah, but,” They started walking again, this time looking where they were going.
“Well then, shut up and keep that thing safe for god’s sake. Without that we’ll never rule the world.” The second figure stopped.
“We? I thought you said I can rule the world,” The first figure stopped, looked skywards and then turned around.
“Yes well I’m gonna be your royal advisor. You will be the looks of the kingdom I will be the brains,”
“What, you calling me stupid? I know a few things.”
“Like what?”
“Ummm, circle of life!” The tall dark figure stuffed his cloak into his mouth. The other, who had a bleeping, flashing object on its belt, planted its hands on its hips and looked at the bent over shape of its companion.
“And what exactly is so funny?”
“The-circle-of-life! Ah hahahahaha!”
“Shhh. Someone’s comin’,” A guard marched past and round the corner of the tower. The two figures froze until he went.
“Phew! I thought you said there were no guards round here?” complained the smaller of the two.
“Well maybe they bumped up security since the threat of Him came bigger,” The small figure crossed their arms and shifted their weight onto one hip.
“Hmmm, I think you just got it wrong but you’re too proud to admit it,”
“Oh shut up,” They crept across the lawn and stood in the middle of a vast patch of grass. The taller of the two bent down and felt the ground.
“Here. This will do, pass me the transmitter,” The small one took the transmitter off their belt and handed it to the crouched down figure. The crouched down one placed the long pole of the transmitter into the ground and flicked a switch. The bleeping stopped but the flashing light glowed from red to green.
“Loki to Donar, Loki to Donar. Come in Donar.” The transmitter cackled and a clear voice came out of it.
“Loud and clear Loki, what’s your position?”
“Shhh. Keep it down. We are in the castle gardens awaiting His command.” A different voice replied. It made the two figures cringe with fear.
“Well done Loki. This is Wotan. I command you to get into your ship and get off the planet. Wait in space until we get back in touch with you. We’ll take care of the royal family,” The two dark figures cowered slightly as the second voice laughed cruelly.
“HEY YOU THERE!” The two figures shot up their heads to see two guards running across the lawn.
“Oh Hel!” The tall figure ripped the transmitter out of the ground and raced across the lawn, heading to the woods, leaving behind their friend. The second figure ran too but towards the husbandry section and a secret passage by the large fountain of Demeter in the middle of the vegetables, vineyards and olive trees. Pushing a large stone olive bunch a secret doorway opened and the figure stepped into the large, lit up hallway, before turning round and pulling an empty torch bracket down to close the door. Not staying to watch it close, the figure ran down the hallway until it got to a brightly lit part of the hallway.
The figure was a girl roughly of the age thirteen. She had deep green eyes and silky, ebony hair and midnight blue wings. She wore dark blue, silk pyjamas and adorned a red sash that stretched from her left shoulder to the right side of her waist and stretched back around behind her, back to her left shoulder. In the middle, on both sides, it bore a silver emblem, a pair of wings crossed with a sword and scroll.
Sighing, she walked further into the tunnel until she got to the door to the main corridor. Pushing it open she popped her head round to see if there was anyone coming. Seeing no one she slipped out and pushed the bookcase covering the opening back into place. Running along the high ceilinged hallway she turned a few corners and stopped out side a tall golden door. Then she stood there and hovered nervously, wondering to tell the queen to go, get off the planet. Finally her guilty conscience took over and she knocked on the door. No answer. She pushed the door open and walked into the room. Silently shutting the huge gold door she looked around the massive gold room. She had seen it once before, when the queen was ill, but it still amazed her. The high walls were painted gold, like the doors, and the tall ceiling was sky blue. The large windows were open slightly, letting in a slight, cool breeze, and the break between the curtains let in the first rays of the rising sun, which reflected off the walls creating a soft, natural light. The giant four-poster bed was next to the window. Walking over to it, the girl pulled back one of the heavy gold curtains. There, lying with her golden hair partially covering her face was the queen. Her face was creased in a fearful frown and sweat had formed on her brow. She kicked out her legs and murmed something before settling down again, face still creased in fear. On the other side of the bed was the king. The girl could see his golden hair and one of his strong, green, dragon like wings was sticking out of the white linen blankets. She looked at the queen and shook her gently.
“Your majesty, your majesty. Wake up. We have to evacuate the castle,” The queen’s eyelids flickered and then shot open. For a brief moment she almost looked scared, but when she sat up she took on her serious, stern face. She tucked her hair behind her ears in one quick move and set her deep blue eyes on the person who woke her up.
“Marise get to the nearest pod and get out of here. I shall alert the others,” She pushed off the blanket and ran to the table beside the window. Her long, strappy nightgown was a light lilac colour and almost seemed to flow like water around the queen’s curvy frame in the slight breeze. A single shining emerald on a thin golden chain hung around her neck. Opening the draw she pulled out a lilac ribbon that matched her gown. She tied up her hair in a bun and then went over to the bed and sat down. Rolling over, she kicked the king, gently, on his shoulder. He shot up and swore loudly.
“What the hell is going on? Oh no, its time to leave, isn’t it.” The queen nodded gravely.
“Eitak, what are you going to do?” His light blue eyes held concern.
“Lienad, I have to contact the others to make sure they get out alright. Plus, I am the queen of this planet and I think I should die with it, like a captain goes down with his ship,” Eitak closed her eyes and rubbed the side of her temples, frowning even harder. Suddenly, she relaxed and rubbed her eyes before opening them.
“You should really get off the planet,”
“And leave all my innocent people to perish? No thank you. I will die with my people,”
“Eitak, I’m really sorry about this,” Eitak turned around to face Lienad just as he blew a fistful of golden dust into her face. She choked and then collapsed on the bed. Marise, who had been standing by the window quietly, gasped.
