Male octopuses do die shortly after mating. Females die because when you have eggs that need constant attention for 6 months, eating is overrated. Does Octavio have siblings? It seems odd for octoling evolution to keep dying after mating once but trade having hundreds of thousands of kids for having only one. Maybe I'm overthinking the biology of a fictional animal
