Spenser stood over me, silently taking in the situation. He was wearing a crisp bronze hunting outfit, with splashes of green here and there. His bow, Hel, was slung over his shoulder, with a few arrows placed in a quiver. His wispy chestnut brown hair swept over his eyebrows, leaving enough room to show his colt-brown eyes.
Spenser knew about the curse on my family, and his own ancestors were friends with mine. Our bloodlines were so close yet none married into the other.
I crouched down, sighing at the headstone. "He isn't my boyfriend. Wasn't your girlfriend shot down by one of Kyle's hunters?" Kyle was the leader of a hunting gang, and since Tantalus' girlfriend was a shapeshifter, things didn't go well when she tried turning into a centaur.
The headstone make a facial expression like Tantalus was blushing. I couldn't tell because, well, his face was stone.
"She died a month before you did, didn't she?" Spenser asked. He crouched next to me. "I think her headstone is here somewhere.." Being a Fey, Spenser had the power of Clairvoyance. And being an Arcania, like me, he could might as well learn necromancy.
"Spense-o, shush," Tantalus said. "I wanna see her again."
I cleared my throat. "It's almost time for Arcania training. Spenser and I should go."
The headstone smiled sadly and said, "Don't forget to water the ghost orchids in my garden."
I smiled over my shoulder as a Don't worry, I will. I went to meet Spenser at the gate.
"Should we teleport?" Spenser asked once I arrived.
"Sure, but I'm doing it this time," I replied. The last time I let Spenser teleport us, we were in the middle of Niflheim, the coldest world to ever penetrate the multi universe.
"All right."
Concentrating, I took my teleport stone and placed it on the floor. "Arcane Academy" I said, staring at the weird design on the stone.
The air began to hum and glow with a faint colour. The colour was different for each possessor of a stone. Mine was a dark black with a bit of silver, making the colour swirl.
Teleporting is not fun. First of all, you feel like you turn into a bajillion particles. Second of all, you feel like your stomach has just left you after finishing your teleport. And last of all, it is not fun being bad at teleportation. The caster has to have extreme concentration, or they might as well kiss themselves goodbye.
As Spenser and I emerged from the stone, we looked up at Valhalla.
"Great," Spenser muttered. "Thanks for giving me an amazing reason to be late for class."
Because we had landed in a speech. A speech by one of the last minor gods left.
The god was Thanatos, god of death. And he was staring at us like we were the first living people he'd ever seen.
