Fabien smirked in the direction of Ella. “So fabien, how's demonhood been treating you?” She hissed, anger and hurt apparent in her voice.
“Oh wonderfully, just yesterday I killed three angels.”
She glared. “How could you kill your own kind?”
He hissed and stepped forward. “I am not an angel. I haven't been for eight years. I will never be like that again.”
“What happened to you… I get it, you're a big ol demon now, but why? Why did you just walk away without saying so much as goodbye? Why on God’s green earth did you make that infernal deal? I get it save the day get the girl because I was always one in need of Savin’. Tell me was the stupid deal worth it?”
“If it weren't for you, I'd still be a weak feathered bitch pining after you like a wounded curr. Let's just say, your weaker than I ever thought you could be trying to get the old me back.Well guess what sugar the old me he’s dead. He was weak whining about world peace. Saving little runaway orphans.Making a deal with demons for some worthless Irish girl who nobody would’ve missed if the deal was never made and the worst part about the old me is his endurance years of demonic torture. Than his last stupid thing the old me said was your fucking name as he choked on his own blood.” Fabien grinned
“Than choke on this ya bastard!” She hissed and punched him in the face. She stormed out of the building, her face beet red, her eyes fighting tears.
Aiyana almost went after her, but walked to the bar. “Can I have Ella's winnings please? I'll bring them to her.” The woman handed her a stack of envelopes, all containing cash. She walked past Fabien, then turned. She kicked him hard in his leg and he hissed. She stormed off after Ella.
She found Ella sitting on the hood of her car, all anger gone, the only thing she was feeling now was hurt though she’s never show it.
“Look, I still don't know you that much, but he's a piece of shit, you could do way better.”
She laughed. “Thanks kid’. But I ain’t about ya cry about it. Look I know it’s a lot ya take in but you handled yourself well I think you’d make a good hunter if you wanted to come with me ”
“I think I will.” She smiled. They were driving down a highway at what must have been three in the morning.
*Three weeks later… *
They had been practicing every day, Aiyana was becoming quite the fighter. She even won a fight at Tempest. She won against a Werewolf, but man was that thing strong.
They sat on the bed at the crappy motel room, creating a plan for their first case as a team. “Okay, double puncture wounds on the neck, blood drained, what does it look like to you?”
“Sounds like a vampire. And you said there were six victims?”
“Yeah, all went missing a month before their bodies were found.”
“Sounds like the pack or single vampire was feeding on victims for a while.”
“Wouldn't be the first time. Must've been one hell of a battle for the victims.”
“Okay, we should rest up, we have a long day tomorrow.” Aiyana fell asleep at two in the morning. She tossed and turned all night. She hadn't slept a decent night since Jeremy died. She understood, he was a demon, he was using her, he wasn't him, he had to die. It still hurt like hell though.
Her and Jeremy were sitting on the edge of a pier, side by side, they were so in love, yet neither knew how the other felt. She had just lost her dad, the most important person in her life, the only person she knew gave a damn. Jeremy had seen the whole thing. The two men had been fishing, when her father fell overboard. Jeremy tried to save him, but her father was a big man, add the water weight, he was just too heavy. She looked to Jeremy, and through the pain, the emptiness, the numbness, she kissed him, like she had never kissed anyone before and as he looked her in the eyes, with his… black eyes. It must have been the darkness surrounding them… yeah, that was it… the darkness.
“Aiyana, Aiyana. What is it?”
“What?”
“You're crying.” That's when she felt the tears rushing down her face. “How could I not tell ”
“What?”
“That Jeremy was… one of those. Why didn't I see it?”
“He wasn’t technically himself. A demon was in his body Jeremy was already gone.Either way what could you ave’ done? Killed him the guilt woulda eaten ya alive. Not to mention You wouldn't know what to do if you tried to kill the demon that possessed him. Aiyana, love move on.” Ella sighed.
“That’s just the thing I can’t move on without the guilt. Not knowing my last words to him. Trying to guess if it was a fight or an I love you…. I don’t remember the last time he was him.” Aiyana frowned
“Look El? Can we just hunt? I really don’t wanna deal with this anymore.”
“Alright.” Ella sighed hoping she wouldn’t regret this.
When they both made it to the scene one thing stood out, the smell of iron in the air, oddly accompanied by a raw chicken smell, the smell of death.
Ella looked at the nearest person who she Recognized. “Nancy, Nancy Orwell?” The woman was dressed in a suit.
“I should’ve known the P.R.O would’ve stuck their noses in hunters business eventually.” Ella sighed.
“What is a P.R.O?” Aiyana questioned.
“Paranormal Research Organization, they are an offshoot of the F.B.I founded after the angels fell from grace and the darkness returned. The F.B.I got smart and realized there had to be more out there so they decided they were the be all end all. Luckily for us they only come investigate things if they need hunters or if it’s too big a deal for them for handle.” Ella smiled
“So Nancy whaddya need?” Ella smirked
“Well we’ve discovered something here that is disturbing here to say the least.” Nancy frowned. “It would seem this was vampires but we found sulfur as well. As well of the Vics we made it to before he passed. He was frantic talking about a demon named Fabien.” Nancy sighed.
“But that doesn’t make sense what does Fabien want with Vampires?” Aiyana questioned.
“I don’t know but trust me I know Fabien better than anyone else if he’s dealing with vampires something big is going down and we need to find out what.” Ella told her.
