Light seeped into my cave, waking me up from my slumber. Today was the day, I was going to Earth. I walked over to the entrance of the cave, letting the sunshine on my scales, warming me. After a few minutes, I leaped off the edge and took flight towards the castle. Once inside I found father and my younger sister, only by two minutes, as she likes to remind me, my twin, Lilith (we all called her Lili, but father) waiting, I approached them, and bowed to Father. Good morning Father, sister. I said greeting them. Greetings son, have you reviewed the prophecy and mission? I had, father hadn’t let me see the full prophecy but I read over what he gave me, he also gave me a gem that would identify the location of the human, in the prophecy it was a human girl with magic that was destined to destroy us, she had dark raven hair, pale skin, but the most important feature to identify her was her golden eyes with silver flecks. I also had to befriend her so when she did disappear no one would suspect for at least a bit of time, it was kind of irritating I just wanted to get this over with, but other than that I just had to retrieve her and bring her back to father, not so hard. I was all ready to go. Yes father. I said. Good, you and Lilith may go now. And with that father left the room. I walked over to Lili. Hey, you ready to go? I asked. She nodded her head eagerly, she had always wanted to see Earth. Come on. I started towards the entrance and we took off into the air, going toward the ley line to Earth, ley lines were the universes magic, they also teleported you, which was cool, but I loved flying more, I hoped we weren’t on Earth too long, I would miss this, gliding effortlessly through the air, not that we couldn’t but we weren’t supposed to. Once at the ley line, we connected with the magic, sending it some of ours, I could see the silver tendrils mixing with our gold, it was beautiful, and then in a blink of an eye we were on Earth, I took in the site, luscious trees, vibrant flowers, it was fantastic, thank god there was also no one around, imagine the horror of some human just seeing a dragon, as what we were called on Earth. Tingles shot down my veins as I shifted into my human form, Lili did the same. I looked down and my hands and legs, it was weird, but I had shifted before, back home just to practice, I didn’t like my human form that much, it was much weaker. I found the pack I had brought, with human necessities, so we could fit in, I threw some clothes over to Lili and put some on myself. Then I found the gem father had given me, according to it we were only about a mile or two away. “Come on Lili, it’s not too far.” I said in English. There were many languages on Earth but the most common was English so all Draekons had to lean it, it was very strange, I prefer Draekonian more, but I needed some practice, so mine as well on the way there. Some Draekons that were already here on Earth had set up a house and ID for us, father an given me two sets of keys before we left, one for the house and one for a car, fun, I had to learn how to drive. In a few minutes we were at the house, I missed my cave. The house was big and block shaped, with a light wooden exterior. I walked up the steps and entered the key, twisting it, the door flew open, I stepped inside, it was darker inside and the wood was a dark mahogany shade which wasn’t too bad. I turned to Lili. “Well, I have school tomorrow, so I’m going to go chill, you can do whatever, just don’t get yourself into trouble, ok?” I said. Lili frowned. “Why don’t I get to go to school?” “Because I don’t need you to cause a ruckus, and I want to make this a quick as possible, get the girl and leave.” Lili’s frown deepened. “I feel bad for the girl, I wonder if she knows what’s going to happen.” “Of course she does, she’s got to, she must be evil, since she’s destined to destroy us, but anyway no school for you.” I said. “ Fine, then I’ll do my best to cause as much trouble as possible, not at school.” Then she flipped her hair and walked away. I rolled my eyes, she was such a drama queen. She probably wouldn’t even like school, I did some research, and most humans didn’t like school. I walked upstairs and over to one of the rooms to claim it as mine. I sprawled out across the bed, someone had already set everything up, clothes, amenities, decorations. I turned to look at the clock, it was 10:00pm which meant it was getting late. I stood up and looked into the neighboring room, Lili was laying on the bed reading a book. “Night.” I said. She looked up and smiled. “Good night.” I went back to my room. I curled up on the soft bed and soon fell asleep. Well there were some things good about Earth, this softness sure beat cave floors.
I woke up to sunlight blazing through the window and the alarm clock blaring, I could hear Lili’s shouts from the other room, yelling at me to turn it off. I smirked, she liked to sleep in, so this was obviously pissing her off. I lazily turned, and smack about almost all the buttons till it shut off. I pulled myself out of the bed and walked over to the closet pulling blue jean pants, and a simple white t-shirt, I also found some shoes, I didn’t like those very much, it made my feet feel trapped. After I got dressed and cleaned up, I went downstairs and grabbed an apple and my backpack and walked through the door and over to the car. It was smaller but sleek and shiny. I climbed into the driver's side and started the engine, even though I had never actually driven a car before we got taught all about human cultures back home, so I knew what to do. I backed out of the driveway, once on the road, I pulled the gem out of my pocket, according to some of our spies on Earth, the girl was at the school in this city. I pulled up at a big rectangular building, it looked dull and boring. I parked the car then got out grabbing my backpack. Once inside I made my way through the crowded halls and over to the office. There was a kind elderly woman waiting at the desk, she gazed up at me with curious eyes. “Hello dear, what may I help you with?” She asked. “Um, my name’s Seth Lakotos, I’m new here.” I said. “Ok, dear.” She said shuffling through a pile of papers. “Here’s your schedule, your first class should be down the hall to your right, have a good day dear.” She said handing me a pink slip of paper and pointing down the hall. I nodded. “Thanks.” I left the office and took a look at the classes I had, Pre Calc room 210. I looked at the walls, 208, 209, then I approached 210. If the girl wasn’t in here or any of my other classes I would look for her at lunch. I took a look at the gem in my pocket, it was glowing, I stuffed it into my backpack then walked into the classroom. The teacher at the front of the room turned to stare at me along with the rest of the class, the later talking in hushed whispers. Warmth flowed through me, colliding with the Draekon energy inside me. What the heck? That was not normal, not that I had ever been to Earth before and interacted with humans, but others had and no one said this happened, it felt like a sealing bond, not that I would know since I hadn’t found my mate yet, but I’ve heard the stories. Was there another Draekon in this room? Could I have found my mate, after a hundred years of waiting? My eyes glazed over the class, settling on a pretty girl in the back, I could see the tendrils of golden Draekon magic around her, it was beautiful, but she wasn’t a Draekon, she couldn’t be, she didn’t have the mark. All Draekon had a mark, the girls on their neck and the males on their chest, it appeared when we turned nine, along with our ability to shift into human form. Her eyes caught mine, a dull blue with silver specks, they didn’t look natural. Realization hit me, she must be the girl in the prophecy, she was part Draekon? Or was it just an illusion. Rage flowed through me, but I held it back, I was supposed to be her friend I couldn’t let her hate me, yet. Blush crept up her face, then she looked away. Ellie chill, what is wrong with you? I almost jumped at the sudden interruption in my brain, how? Who? What? How had someone sent a thought to me, only mates could do that, I did not have a mate. The teacher a small man with greying hair walked up next to me. “Guys, this is Seth Lakotos, one of our new students this year. Seth, um.” He said eyes glazing across the room, then landing on the open seat next to the girl. The soft feminine voice went in my mind again. Oh no. “You can take the open seat next to Ellie.” I nodded, then headed in her direction, sitting in the seat next to her, as I neared her, the warmth grew stronger, and a sweet vanilla scent overwhelmed my nose. What was happening? I glanced at her, she was looking at me strangely, I wondered if she was feeling the same thing, because I was pretty sure the scent was her, maybe it was one of her evil tricks, but I was really doubting it, because this was exactly what happened when you found your mate, but that couldn’t be possible, she was human, and the doom to our kind. So it was him. I heard. Was she talking about me? And if so, it was me what? Ellie quickly looked away and focussed back to the front of the room, was Mr. Wellington was going over what we needed for the year. I assessed Ellie, she didn’t look or act particularly evil, I had seen her laughing and talking with her friend next to her, she probably did things in secret then. I turned and focused on the teacher as well, trying to clear my mind of the distraction next to me. Once the bell rang, and the class was over, Ellie bolted. Huh, that was interesting.
After putting some books in my locker, I made my way to the next class. I saw that Ellie was sitting in the back next to an empty chair, she saw that I had entered and snatched out a notebook and began doodling, avoiding my eyes. Warmth flared inside me, as I walked down the aisle and sat down next to her. The bell rang and everyone scrambled to their seats as the teacher walked up to the front, Ellie looked up. I made sure that her eyes caught mine, her teeth gritted but she didn’t look away, her gaze dropped to my lips, and her thoughts flooded my head. Ellie! What is wrong with you! Stop looking at him, he was not making you feel like this, you’re just having a panic attack or something. A slow grin spread across my face. She thought she was having a panic attack, if only. “You’re Ellie right?” I asked, even though I knew, but I needed to be friends with her, introductions were a good start. She opened her mouth, but didn’t say anything for a minute. “Yeah.” She said quietly, twirling a strand of her hair. “Nice to meet you, I’m Seth.” I said. “You too.” She said wearily, this guy was too nice, there had to be a catch. My smile faded, there was a catch, I had to kidnap her, so far she seemed like a genuinely nice person making this harder than I intended, but there had to be something evil about her, right? I turned my gaze away and focused on what the teacher was saying.
Ellie was also in my next two classes, it was quite obvious she was doing her best to avoid me, I also could read her thoughts, but still, she never spoke to me, looked at me, or walked near me. After class Ellie dashed off, so much for trying to be her friend, this was going very well, not. Next, I had lunch. As I entered the huge room, a group of boy’s beckoned me over to their table. A blonde boy who bore a resemblance to Ellie smiled brightly at me. “Hey, you’re new, welcome to Wahiʻike High, what’s your name? Come, sit down.” I sat down next to him. “My name’s Seth.” I said introducing myself. “I’m Ethan. This is Leo, Chase, and, Peter.” The blonde boy said, pointing at a blonde green eyed boy, a curly hair hazel eyed guy and a guy with dark brown eyes. “So what brings you here?” The green-eyed guy named Leo asks. Well, I obviously couldn’t say I came here to kidnap someone, so instead, I said. “Me and my sister moved here together, we had complications back home, so we moved here, we actually used to live here but moved.” I said, making up a total lie, well if it wasn’t me it wouldn’t be a lie, before my father was king he did live here for a bit because all Draekon’s were required to live on Earth for a few years, at least twenty, and this is where he resided for those years. Ethan nodded. “How old’s your sister? Cause I have a sister, maybe they could be friends.” So I was right, he was Ellie’s brother, maybe they could’ve been friends if she wasn’t destined to kill us, but well they were going to be fake friends, so mine as well use this to an advantage. “She’s sixteen, my twin.” I replied. Ethan’s face lit up. “That’s so cool! Ellie, my sister, is my twin as well, we're sixteen too. We should really hang out sometime, I bet you don’t live far.” I smiled and nodded, just before I had a chance to replied, the bell rang. I quickly got up and left. “Sure, sometime.” I said before I left.
