The Four Orders: Ardent

Prologue

Prologue

Sep 12, 2018

In the beginning there was nothing, a dark empty void, endless and cold. Within this darkness a mighty being was born, no one knows from whence it came, but that is not important to this story, what is important is that Gallian the first of the Genesys Gods was brought into existence. The concept of time had not yet been brought into being, and as such it is not known for how long Gallian glided through the Void pondering his existence, it is known however that almost ten thousand years ago is when he first created our world, the Midrealm. Here he crafted for himself a home atop the first Mountain, and from this great seat he populated the Midrealm with the grass and trees and shrubs, then he brought forth beasts and fish of every shape and size. Finally he brought forth the greatest of the new world’s inhabitants, the Dragons. Mighty lizards standing as tall as small mountains, with claws like lances and teeth like Greatswords. Their great wings spread so far that to be underneath them when a dragon took flight spelled certain death. Into these creatures did Gallian pour his Wisdom and Power. The Dragons took up the role of guardians of the earth, learning to transform themselves into smaller, two-legged, dragons to ensure their passage didn’t destroy any life, and to seat themselves at the throne of Gallian and be his court.

So Gallian ruled at the head of his court for a thousand years, before he was overcome by the loneliness of omnipotence. It was then that the great God brought forth his true children, the five young Gods that make up the rest of the Genesys Gods. There was Balur the Fire God, Plangea the Earth Goddess, Siegur the Water God, Swayver the Wind Goddess and Gurdir the Light God. Immediately Gallian’s Children took up their rightful positions at his side, helping him to rule the land, and bring into being the sentient races of Humanity, Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, Halflings, Beastkin and the Merfolk.

The Genesys Gods entrusted the rule of these peoples to a select few Dragons, each tribe gave their Guardian a name and began to venerate them as the benevolent Gods they appeared to be. Seeing this Gallian smiled upon his favoured creatures and raised them to Godhood, so that they may truly protect and raise their people. These Dragon Gods became known as the Deities, Immortal Beings with great power only surpassed by the Genesys Gods themselves.

There was a drawback of course, each Deity’s power was linked to the wellbeing of their tribe, as such if a tribe was destroyed they Deity would perish for their failure, or return to their Dragon form to return to a mortal existence, a fate deemed worse than death by the Dragons.

So it came to pass that Gurdir grew jealous of the devotion showed to the Dragons, and he went to his Father, demanding that a tribe be created to worship him as well. Gallian looked upon his son and saw the festering madness that ate away within and decreed.

“No tribe shall ever be given unto the rule of the Genesys Gods, instead each shall create a Holy Order to be our arm unto the world and ensure our will is met.” Gurdir flew into a rage at this decree, knowing that it was now not within his power to ascend to what he saw as his rightful place, his mind shattered and fell into the terrifying void that is a Mad God. Gurdir struck Gallian then, a mighty blow that devastated the Mountain top, cracking it open and allowing the molten rock and fire within to rage forth and consume the land for miles, several tribes and their Dragon Gods perished in the blaze.

It wasn’t long before the remaining Genesys Gods rushed to the aid of their father and restrained their mad brother. Together the Gods fashioned a prison deep in the bowels of the earth where they sealed Gurdir, so powerful was the prison to contain the Mad God that it took four keys of their creator’s purest element to lock and bind it shut.

The remaining Mortal Dragons came together as the Holy Order of Gallian to watch over and Guard the prison, to ensure that the Mad God never escaped. While the remaining Gods created their own Holy Orders, each charged with the protection of their respective God’s Elemental Key.

And so it was, that the Four Orders rose up across the world ready to defend it and ensure that their sacred duties never be forgotten, for despite his imprisonment, the power of Gurdir was far reaching…
