I knew then that it was only a matter of time before I would be shipped off to the land of Eternal Darkness, and probably live a terrible life with a terrible prince who could never love me, because we all knew that vampires were:
1. Disgusting
2. Soulless
3. Did I mention disgusting
4. Perpetually cold
5. Unfeeling.
Basically they were just the worst of the worst. And I was to be married to the worst of them all. Crown Prince Worst.
I knew from my current events lessons that the Crown Prince Worst, a.k.a. Crown Prince Itarus, was currently 16 years of age, the first in line to throne, and due to security issues the royal family had declined to show him to the public at his coming of age party, which naturally stirred up all kinds of talks.
But honestly, my favorite rumor was the one that supposed he was born so hideous, that the royal family could not bring themselves to present such a face to the public in order to protect their royal image, because vampires were supposed to be the most beautiful creatures on the realm.
I've never seen one in person so I can't say for sure how true that statement is, but I can say for certain that the pictures of vampires that were painted in my history textbook were certainly beautiful. Yet, regardless of what they look like, it seemed that in all my history lessons whenever there were bad happenings, vampires were at the forefront of them all. My point being, that outer beauty doesn't matter if your insides are rotten to the core. And perhaps nature decided to exact justice by presenting the vampire clan with a hideous leader. One can only hope of such a delicious karma.
Other than his name and age, I didn't know much else about my future husband. The *ENK were top secret in that way. They liked to keep their privacy, especially when it came to the royal family, which was fine by me considering it meant I had less to memorize on my history exams.
My parents decided that my abilities would be keep a secret until the issue could no longer be avoided, but we all knew that it wouldn't be long until word had spread, that the Sun Kingdom once more had a Sun bringer.
The rumors were sure to spread more quickly than a fire being fanned.
They also decided that I should learn to train and control my abilities if I was to survive in a court of vampires, because after all the power of the sun was the one thing that meant sure death for an immortal being and it was my one protection against them. Thus, I was enrolled in the Academy of Young Magick, a place far off in the Elfin lands across the Black Sea, but before I could set sail, an royal envoy arrived from the Eternal Night Kingdom with one short message.
We cordially invite you to the Eternal Night Castle for the engagement party between Crown Prince Itarus of House Eltenmar, and Crown Princess Sunny of House Cronia.
