In history, I listen carefully. We talk about the Vuskai-Urbem war. How it began, and the current state. This is new material out of the blue makes me suspicious. I wouldn’t have missed it if we went over it. I refuse to chalk it up to a new curriculum. The professor shows some sort of love for the Vuskai. Most people know that they’re violent and sick monsters, yet her opinion on them has taken a sudden change. Or was that her opinion that all along?
Maybe I'm just over analyzing the situation. Isn't cautious better than ignorance, though? Once the bell rings for lunch, I walk straight to the computer labs. I know Sailor and Ty will worry about where I am, but that doesn’t matter to me right now. I need to look into something.
The lights immediately turn on when I walk in. I quickly turn them off, praying that no one noticed me come in here. It's rare that people use computers. Most things are inaccessible from these computers, but Ty taught me a way to view anything at any time. A simple code. It even makes me a ghost account. No logging in, free browsing for as long as I feel like reading.
I look up current events in Urbem. Something I've never done before. It's about time I looked at what's actually going on there. Bombings, war, darkness. Something I am not surprised by. Then I switch to our country and politics. I’m sure that the president’s new relations are only hidden from everyone in the facility except for higher-ups. Once, I thought nothing of the restricted websites. Adult websites, distractions, some research databases. It wasn’t until recently that they kept us away from the computers. All sites that are marked with an X are visible to me with the hack.
In recent news, her majesty, Empress Zaera, decided to cut her ties with President Calem of Ionasekta. This was after a few months of back and forth. The empress stated that it would be an inappropriate political relationship as Calem is the descendant of one of Old Vuskatune dynasties.
Calem argued that this would soothe the rising tensions between the City and the kings and queens of Vuskatune. However, her Majesty declared that it would be a relationship in which no one was trustworthy to each other. As we can see so far, our president has already made a strong tie with King Jilaiya of the Vuskai empire Zirkar.
Recently, many citizens of his country have relocated to our city, and it seems as if there may be plans to ban any of the citizens from Urbem from coming into the country. Along with comes the wonder of what may happen to the parts of our army that contain children who relocated from Urbem just over thirteen years ago. Will they be sent back to Urbem or sentenced to death? Only time will tell.
We plan to continue covering this story for an undetermined amount of time. Tomorrow, expect an update with more coverage on what decisions will be made.
I stare at the screen blankly. This was around a week and a half ago. There must have been at least one update by now. In the newspapers they sell on the property, there’s no mention of this happening at all. I realize why the news has been covered up. Every single one of us thought Zaera was dead. New things coming out about her have to be covered up before we start asking about when we’ll be free to leave.
Thirteen years ago, Vuskai soldiers attacked the palace. The empress’s brother and his wife evacuated, along with their daughter, to this very city. That was the same day that Urbe children were rushed onto ships and given to this facility. The last two things we saw that had anything to do with the royal family on Urbem was that Zaera was kidnapped by Jilaiya and shot in the head on camera. We were also forced to watch her family face the same fate.
“This is what happens to people who betray the Zirkar Empire.” It was assumed almost half of her family, close and distant, were killed too. The very same happened to the royal family of our city, but a new royal family was never established after that.
Once we were loyal to the Urbe crown, and now we are not, apparently. I didn’t come here until eleven years ago. Up until then, to the best of my knowledge, I had been living with Ty and Evita on the street for two years. Ty and I were sick, and we decided to stay so we didn’t continue to suffer. The truth was that I lost every single memory. I wanted to start over.
I click forward to the most recent update.
After much debate between officials, it has been decided what will be done with the men and women who were relocated thirteen years ago. Back then, many children ranged from four years of age to thirteen. The first step is to take those who have already graduated training and force them into retirement.
It is argued that all of the adults who were evacuated must be executed as before coming here, they served Empress Zaera. Many say that this could be considered treason, others say they belong in prison, and a small number of citizens would like to see them forced back into the war zone that is the City.
As for the children, the president said in his statement, “We would love to give the children a chance to go back home and find their families if they are still alive. However, the laws about orphans are similar to ours. Once the orphaned children are sent back, many will be offered jobs that have them join her majesty’s army. We simply cannot allow that. There is a strong likelihood of betrayal amongst those growing up in our country. Hence, they must be eliminated from this planet and reality.”
