My heart skips a beat. They really do want to kill us. There’s nothing else on this subject, but it is just enough for me to confirm my suspicions. I just need to wait for an article to come out with dates. The facility will tell us nothing, and I have to figure out soon when this will happen.
I have one more thing to look up first, though. Empress Zaera. How could she still be alive? Why wasn’t there anything on her until just now? I have to know. We wouldn’t have been restricted recently if she had come back a long time ago. Jilaiya also doesn’t seem like the kind of man to let her live captive for that long.
It has been six months since Empress Zaera of the planet Urbem has come back and taken her throne. With the help of her palace guard, she was found hidden in an old bunker created long ago during the time of the ancient civilization. It was believed that she was shot in the head and killed by King Jilaiya.
While she was absent from her throne the man she chose as her hand, Lucien Augustine, took charge of the City for this period of time. It was just recently revealed that she is alive and well. When she was found, she made an extended absence while Lucien continued to rule in her place. After her break, she has finally come back into her position.
However, it seems that her brother and sister-in-law, King Orlan and Queen Marzia, have officially been pronounced dead. After their torture shown on camera in our downtown square, along with our dear royal family, it is has become painfully clear that they all indeed passed away. It was easy for her guard to figure out that she was not dead and that her death was a hoax.
Zaera described what she endured during her abduction. Bruises, lacerations, and broken bones. Along with the emotional and psychological torture. These disgusting acts were carried out, but at this time we have no head of state to show her support. We send the best of wishes her way. Much love to Empress Zaera, and our many condolences.
I sit back in my chair. I’ve kept all three tabs open. I can’t steal the computer without being caught. I decide to print out the text from all of these web pages. The sounds the printer makes line up with my heart rate. I feel like I can’t breathe. All of these things no one knows is true. Once the printer has finished, I log out of the computer and wipe off all my fingerprints.
The bell suddenly rings, notifying that lunch is over and it is time to begin training. I start to panic and with shaky hands, place the papers in my bag. I can’t run back to my quarters without reason. I carefully exit the computer lab and look around. No cameras point to the computer lab, but there are a couple about twenty feet away. I slowly walk over to a trash can that sits at an intersection of halls.
I put my hands on the edge of it, and look around to see if anyone is watching me. Luckily, no one is around to watch what I do. I take in the smell of the garbage can and feel my stomach churn.
I have to go back to my quarters. They search our bags in the training center.
I take another breath and throw up everything that’s left in my body from this morning. My eyes watering, and my head dizzy, I push myself away from the trashcan. I hear the bell ring once again, indicating I should already be ready for training.
I start to stumble back to my quarters. I don’t see a single guard once I get to the area with the dorms. No alarm will go off if I don’t show up to training, security cameras will just search for me in the hallway.
When I reach our door, I wipe away the beads of sweat that have started dripping down my forehead. I’m sure that I look like a pale, disgusting mess. It’s necessary, though. With shaking hands, I press my finger on the scanner, and the door unlocks. I push inward and see that Tristayne and Milo have relocated to our quarters instead of Milo’s.
Both of them stare at me. First surprise, then anger, and finally concern. Tristayne hops up from his seat and takes my bag from me.
“What happened to you, kid?” I open my mouth to talk but feel my stomach flip once more. Instead of explaining myself, I reach into my bag and hang them the papers from the lab.
“I couldn’t have these in my bag when I went to training. They search you and your belongings. I couldn’t risk anyone finding these.” He folds his arms.
“Why did you print them out just now then?”
“Lunch is the most inconspicuous time to do anything shifty. No one is watching the halls, and I needed into the computer lab.” I hold out the papers, and he carefully takes them from me.
“You do realize you’re in massive trouble.”
“To get it all out there, I hacked the computer for these. I don’t think this is something you’ll want to yell at me for, though.” I look at Milo. I can tell that he’s holding his tongue. For now. “You need to read these too.” He sighs and comes over to help me up.
“Let’s get you washed up before I read any of this. I’ll let Tris go through them by himself first.” I nod, and both of us walk to my bathroom. While I find some clean clothes, and gets me a damp washcloth and finds blankets for me. I raise an eyebrow at him. “You’ll thank me later. Take a shower, clean up. We’ll talk to you when you get out. Then we’re gonna have you rest.”
“Okay.” I say softly. As he walks away, he starts talking to himself. He asks himself why I would do that. Sometimes he can be so cruel to me. But other times... he's like another father. Sailor isn't right when he thinks Milo doesn't like me. It's just that he's not Tris.
Soon they'll find out about Zaera. Soon they'll all find out.
