Black. His irises are black. Kaycee’s mind screams at her before she ducks under another lunge from the agitated wolf before her. The pounding on the door gets louder, as Kaycee turns to face the wolf once more, a burning pain, from a stray scratch, slowly making itself known across her shoulder, as the smell of her own blood mixes with the normal smells of disinfectant and antiseptic. The wolf had crashed against the wall and is now shaking its head trying to refocus its attack. Glancing at the reinforced window, Kaycee sees a bunch of the medical center staff as well as Megan and Heather. She knew James had run to get Mason the moment she set the lock-down for the room, so figures the pounding is due to Devyn and Hector as likely the ones attempting to break down the door. Looking back at the shifted wolf, she starts working through what to do while she waits for Mason.
The whole room looks like a tornado has attacked it. The electric bed is on its side, the mattress is torn with the filling strown around the room. Monitors meant to check vitals lays with all the internal wiring torn out of the machines. The doors to the cupboards are falling off and has deep scratch marks running through them. Only the sink seems to be untouched though it is full of the supplies normally kept on the counters. The wolf, having refocused on Kaycee, lunges once more, but this time Kaycee let it make its hit and grapples with the wolf. Kaycee grabs onto the loose skin on the back of the wolf’s head as its jaws tear into her already wounded shoulder, holding tightly even as the pain from the bite makes her want to let go. The wolf could not shake its bite with her hold so starts scratching at her sides. She gasps as she felt his claws dig in but only holds on tighter in response, focusing only on staying calm and projecting that calm out of herself using her Omega powers.
Slowly the wolf’s thrashing lessons and detaches the bite, Kaycee also releasing her hold as she senses the wolf is, at last, calming to a point she won’t be immediately attacked. Glancing at the window when she realizes the pounding has stopped, she sees a white wolf with a streak of black across the forehead, which she knows is Mason’s shifted form, standing with paws on the edge of the window, eyes glowing crimson, aura of sharp rainbow of the colors of the basic elements of her Fae blood with a flowing crimson to indicate her Were heritage.
As the wolf moves off of her, Kaycee sits up and watches it. Catching a look at his eyes, she notices the irises are now amber in color with only a black ring around them. Sighing in relief Kaycee reaches out slowly and starts rubbing the wolf on the ear as she assesses her wounds. Not seeing or feeling anything too life-threatening, she lays down to rest, the wolf laying its head on her lap.
A buzz comes from the intercom as a warm, thickly accented, feminine voice comes through, “Kaycee please release the lock-down for the room.”
Kaycee looks over at the window again to see Mason looking in at her in human form, loose long white hair contrasting with the dark-colored skin of her youthful face and tucked behind Mason’s pointed ears. Mason’s eyes constantly change between colors that reflect the main magical elements of her Fae side. that she mastered many years ago, from purple to blue to green to red and to grey, as they lock onto Kaycee’s gaze, worry showing through them for how Mason is feeling upon seeing the wounds on Kaycee’s body. Rolling her eyes, Kaycee rolls away from the calmed wolf and moves to stand up. The wolf attempts to help Kaycee stand and stays with her as she walks over to the intercom and lock-down mechanisms. Pressing in the code for reopening the room, Kaycee hears the door click open. No one immediately enters the room, so Kaycee moves to sit down on the ground in the center of the room, using a hand to allow herself to be slowly braced down by the wolf.
Finally, the door opens, and Mason enters the room, her five foot eight height stretching her lean, defined muscles to seem even more Fae than Were beneath the pale green scrubs she had pulled on after returning to human form. She stays back so not to agitate the wolf back into a frenzy, running her eyes across each mark she could see on Kaycee’s form. Kaycee watches Mason’s assessing her wounds with a small smile.
“I kinda expected Devyn to be the first one through the door to kick my ass for locking her out,” Kaycee teasingly throws out to Mason, earning a slight shake of the head from the older hybrid.
“I told them they would only make the nekypomed, situation, worse,” Mason tells her. “Why did you lock the cerom, room, down?”
“They kept saying they were going to grab some Wolfsbane. Something instinctively felt wrong, but Derrick had shifted, so I set the lock-down, so I could try and calm him without interference, or at least, they would call you, and you could try to order him to shift.”
“The order didn’t work. His neare, wolf, was blocking me,” Mason tells Kaycee as Derrick’s wolf lays down and curls against the Omega. “He could have dermurnecyr ju, killed you.”
“But he didn’t, not that he really could since I’m physically stronger than him. Derrick’s just a Theta. He can’t match me even if he is a larger man in human form. Plus he doesn’t really want to hurt anyone. It's the poison causing this, not him,” Kaycee retorts, pouting at Mason’s lack of faith in her ability to hold her own.
“Do you think he will let someone tend your dermeniel, wounds,” Mason asks, only getting a shrug from Kaycee who starts to play with the pelt of the wolf in front of her. Mason watches the wolf for several minutes before moving to sit on Kaycee’s other side. “A’testhazeve,” she murmurs as she slowly puts an arm around Kaycee’s shoulder, both to not startle the wolf and to keep from hurting Kaycee’s wounds. “You know your wounds will durk, heal, better if you let someone look at them.”
Kaycee leans into Mason’s touch and sighs as she breathes in Mason’s complicated scent. Leaning her head on the Alpha's shoulder while still running her fingers into the undercoat of the wolf against her legs. “We can try in a few minutes. He’ll shift back soon. His eyes are already starting to become more normal. Just let me rest here until he shifts, and we can talk to him about it.”
Mason nods and holds Kaycee closer, being mindful of her wounds. Derrick’s wolf looks up at Mason a moment before laying his head back down on Kaycee’s lap. Kaycee loves being held by Mason, especially at times like this where she needs the comfort. Her wolf had felt that shifting would have only made Derrick react worse, so she stayed human, even if she felt more in control of her Omega powers when in wolf form. Thankfully her wolf had helped her channel the Omega into the bit of Wiccan power she had used to keep the wolf at bay at first, but the whole fight took a lot out of her. She was not trying to hurt Derrick with her powers, but the more he attacked her, the harder it had been to stay calm and focused.
No matter whether using the Omega powers in human or wolf forms, being calm was the key to control, but being Wiccan made it harder for Kaycee to focus on remaining calm. Kaycee had always found it hard to control her powers with her Wiccan tendency of strong emotions to link into her spells. It never helped to let her emotions influence her Wiccan side if she needed to use her Omega Powers as well, so she had learned to link the Wiccan to the Omega itself in times where she needed to be an Omega first. By linking, the two very different power paths together, she can use her Wiccan powers alongside her Omega ones, without her emotions tainting the Omega powers, but linking them drains her emotionally. It usually took a lot to reset after choosing to link them together, and she had found the best way to reset, was to curl up with Mason, whom she had found as a source of safety and comfort since she was a child.
Derrick’s wolf suddenly stands and growls at the door, black hair standing on end, as the door swings open enough for one of the doctors to stick her head in. “Alpha, We need to draw some blood from both Derrick and Kaycee, to see if the bite passed on any of the poison.”
Mason looks at Kaycee who has moved to hug the wolf around his neck in an effort to calm him, before replying to the Doctor, “Get Bethany. Derrick might let his kartsial, soulmate enter.” The doctor nods and starts to move back out the door as Mason calls out, “Let’s make it a policy to use the intercom before entering a poisoned patient’s room please” The doctor nods and shuts the door.
Kaycee pulls the wolf back to face her and looks into his eyes, her own glowing crimson as she lets her Omega instincts take full regulation of the power she is using. The wolf relaxes once more and licks her cheek, causing the Omega to giggle slightly before leaning back onto Mason as they wait for Doctor Bethany's arrival.
