(Aiden's POV)
After driving Jayden home, we both walked inside his house, not expecting to see his mother standing in the living room when she was supposed to be sleeping like the nurse had said.
"Oh. Hey mom, I missed you. How are you feeling?" He asked, holding out his arms to her. She hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek before shooting me a glare behind Jayden's back.
"Mom this is my good friend Aiden." He said.
My heart stung at the word friend but he told me even before we came out of the car that we can't act like we're together. She would flip out and that wouldn't be good for either of us.
I held out my hand to her, hoping she would act civil and you know, sane.
"Hi ma'am, my name is Aiden. It's nice to meet you." I said. politely.
She eyed my hand for a couple seconds, obviously not wanting to shake it but did so anyway. She gave my hand one shake before yanking it away as if I had burned her.
Jayden, sensing the awkward atmosphere told me to go upstairs in his room and that he would meet me there.
I saw his mother walk off into the kitchen where Jayden followed. Right when I closed the door behind me, I was hit with his beautiful scent. I was so tempted to bury my face in his pillow and take a huge whiff.
Yelling broke out downstairs, most of it his mothers voice but for once Jayden's was in the mix as well.
I sneaked out of his room, standing at the top of the stairs so they didn't see me as I tried to listen to what was going on. I was afraid she was going to hurt Jayden by throwing a plate at him or something.
"I don't want that boy here! He's going to steal you away from me! I won't allow it!"
"Mom, how many times to I have to tell you that I'm not going anywhere?! I shouldn't have to live like this! Why can't you just believe me when I say I'll stay with you?" Jayden cried. His voice was heavy and I could tell that he was crying.
When she had nothing to say, Jayden came stomping up the stairs to his room.
He wiped his face and closed the door slowly. I got up and hugged him tightly, rubbing his back soothingly.
"I can't do this anymore. I can't always be there for her. She's always so afraid that I'll leave her but with her like this, she makes me want to leave. I hate feeling like this but I just can't anymore!" He cried, holding fistfuls of my shirt.
"I know," I whispered. "I know."
"Do you know how much it costs to buy her pills? It's several hundred dollars and I can't afford that! Even if I spend all this money on those pills, they don't work! She's insane and needs to be in an institution with people that can actually help her! And to top it all off, I have to buy food for us both that goes to waste because she doesn't eat half the time anyway!" He paused his ranting as sobs racked his body.
"Half the time she doesn't even take her pills which makes her even more messed up an that's when she started throwing things and going into fits! I can't keep doing this. Soon I'll be dead, starving on the streets while she's still whining about being left alone by someone that left her years ago!"
"It's getting worse and worse everyday. I'm scared of her one day just saying 'fuck it!' and overdosing on her pills when I'm not looking. I know she's sick but I want my mom back! I miss the old days with my dad when we used to hang out. When everything was normal. I miss when my mom used to actually smile and not cry for someone who isn't coming back. Ever since he left, she's been nothing but a corpse. She's a hollow shell of what used to be my mother." I rubbed his back as he continued to cry. I picked him up and carried him to the bed before putting him on my lap.
"I want my dad." He whimpered.
~
When Jayden calmed down, we laid down in his bed. I was holding him as close as possible to me, running my fingers through his hair to hopefully relax him.
"I'll get you a new shirt." He mumbled after a little bit, getting out of bed and going somewhere down the hallway.
"Here, it was my dads." He said as he handed it to me. I thanked him before getting changed.
Jayden then went to his closet and changed into some pajamas that consisted of a long sleeved white shirt with black sweatpants and some black socks.
"Thanks again for the shirt." I said before kissing his cheek. He smiled and nodded before getting up and heading to the door. I gave him a look, showing I was confused, as he left the room.
"Well, do you want food or not?" He asked, poking his head back in the door.
"Oh, uh, yeah sure." I said, laughing before walking downstairs with him. He told me to wait on the steps while he checked downstairs to see if his mom was still in the kitchen.
"Come on, let's get you to bed." Jayden said as he helped move his mother up the stairs.
I didn't even notice she was there. She was just staring off into space on the couch.
He brought her carefully up the stairs before tucking her in bed. He kissed her forehead then exited her bedroom, making sure to close the door behind him.
When Jayden was back downstairs, he looked in the fridge and pulled out some fruit along with carrots which I thought was super cliché until he took out a big slab of meat. My mouth watered as he just smirked and brought it with him outside onto the back porch.
I turned into my wolf and followed him with the package of meat, wagging my tail. He chuckled and ripped open the package before throwing the meat in the air. I immediately chased it and jumped, catching it in my mouth. I munched on it happily as Jayden sat on the patio. He then used the chair next to him as a table to hold the rest of his fruit while I continued eating the slab of meat.
He started on the carrots, nibbling them as if he were in his bunny form.
By the time he had finished his fruit, I was already done with my meat. I laid down next to him with my large head in his lap. He petted the top of my head before scratching behind my ears. My tail wagged faster as he giggled.
"Just like a puppy." He mumbled.
"Hey, you wanna go watch a movie upstairs? It's getting late." He asked. I nodded and shifted back into a human as we walked upstairs.
