Chapter author: YouAreNowIncognito
This prey wasn't big. It was just a small rabbit. Delmar closed his eyes. Sure, it looked insignificant on the outside but on the inside the power was glowing. Delmar concentrated and dug deeper into the rabbit's mind. What is your power little one? Suddenly he found it. Quicksilver.
Well, well what have we here? A small toxic natural disaster? It’s almost like I'll do nature a favor by killing you. Do you know about your powers? Yes it did. It seemed like it had been aware of them for quite a while now. It also seemed like it knew about its feral demon form but not its human nor its humanoid titan form. This would indeed be an exciting fight. Hopefully he wouldn't get interrupted by that annoying white wolf again. She was sent out to protect her pack and their fire shifter so hopefully she didn't mind if he beat up some other shifter instead.
Delmar started to play his mind trick on the poor little bastard. He started to send the rabbit an uneasy feeling then he slowly escalated it into fear and terror. The eyes of the rabbit grew bigger as it stopped munching on the grass. As the rabbits fear grew the grass around it withered. Delmar walked out from his hiding place. He spoke with a slow mannered voice.
“Look at you, poisoning the world around you... where are all your little bunny friends? I thought bunnies were pack animals. Don't they like you? Or can't you bare to be around them cause you fear you’ll poison them? Or maybe they're already dead because of you?” Delmar did some more quick digging in the poor rabbit’s head and memories.
“Yeah, they did die because of your quicksilver didn't they?” The bunny started to tremble.
“A slow painful death probably, one by one… Did they ever realize it was you who made them sick?”
“I didn't do anything…” it whispered. Tears were starting to roll down its cheeks.
“Look at you, you're even denying it.” Delmar started to circle around the rabbit. “I thought you'd at least have some honor left.”
“Who are you to judge? You don't know anything about me!” The fear in the rabbit's face changed to anger. Silvery liquid started to flow around the rabbit in an offensive manner.
“What? Are you going to hit me just because I told you the truth?” Delmar made himself ready to attack. This was too easy.
The rabbit rushed towards him, but Delmar was faster. He grabbed it around its neck and shook it like he was trying to snap its neck. The rabbit transformed. Suddenly Delmar was standing in front of a giant silvery snake like creature. The silvery quicksilver liquid was dancing around the shifter in the air.
“Yes! Yeees!” Delmar shouted. “Finally a real battle!” He too shifted into his feral form and let the ice crystals fill the air.
Angi was not pleased, she had looked away for a minute and suddenly Delmar was gone. Now she had to track him down. He had been running and the tracking took time so he was way ahead of her. Darn it! Why was the mischievous creature in such a hurry? He had stopped trying to run away from her a while back so it must have been something making him hurry. Suddenly she heard a loud noise. It sounded like a roar but it didn't sound like any animal she had ever heard. Delmar’s scent seemed to lead that way as well. She rushed forward and stopped when she saw them. Two giant monsters were fighting, one silver one formed like a giant lizard with extremely long back and the other one was blue and seemed to be made out of ice crystals. Even though she had never seen him like this before she recognized Delmar instantly.
“Shit! I knew they weren't what they looked like but I never knew they could turn into such monsters. Can Ramsey do that as well?” She was stunned by the scene. The giant blue monster that obviously was Delmar seemed to have the upper hand. He obviously had better tactics and fighting style. He also seemed like he had more control over his body in this state. The silver one was clumsily wrecking down trees around itself as it moved around. Finally Delmar got a firm grip around its throat, he forced its head down against the ground and held its body down with his giant crystal feet. The other creature was fighting for its life to get rid of Delmar's heavy weight. Suddenly in a burst of light and silvery liquid the other shifter broke free only to collapse onto the ground. It shrunk down into a small insufficient rabbit.
“SO YOU’RE FINALLY GIVING UP? I GUESS I’LL JUST HAVE TO END YOUR MISERABLE LIFE THEN” Delmar’s voice thundered. The ground was covered in the liquid quicksilver.
Delmar was utterly pleased with himself. Not only had he beaten up an atomic element shifter but it had also been easy. The poor rabbit didn't seem to know how to fight at all in the feral demon form. Now he just had to finish it off.
Delmar didn't believe his eyes, suddenly the gods damned white wolf stood in front of him, between him and his prey.
“MOVE!” he roared.
“No! Why are you doing this?” she shouted. I must be mad, she thought. She looked over her shoulder, the rabbit seemed to be unconscious.
“MOVE OR I'LL KILL YOU TOO!”
“Delmar, you're better than this! Why do you want to kill it? What has it done to you?”
“NOTHING. IT JUST NEEDS TO DIE" he growled. Stupid Angi, was she here to give him a bad conscience? The rabbit suddenly awoke. Terrified it shifted back into its feral demon form and escaped flying away up into sky. Delmar shifted back into his wolf form.
“Fuck he's fast, I'm never gonna catch up with that.” He looked angrily at Angi.
“Why did you interfere? I thought you only protected your pack, not some dumb rabbit?”
“Why do you do this? Why do you kill your own kind?”
Delmar seemed to calm down, she wasn't so afraid anymore. He sighed and looked down.
“I want to show the guys back at the city I’m strong. They have laughed at me too many times. If I only kill enough other shifters they'll see I'm not worthless just because I'm of the ice element.” He looked up at her again. “Why am I even telling you this?”
“Listen Delmar, do you think they'll let anyone in who killed their family and friends? Shouldn't you prove yourself in some other way?”
“Maybe I should just get rid of you once and for all?” A mad spark lit in his eyes. “You have been interfering a bit too much in my business" He started walking slowly towards her. But she stayed calmly in her place, she gave him a smile. He lost it all, why wasn't she afraid of him? She walked up to him and put her head against his shoulder again just like she had done on the rooftop.
“You should run away from here. I’m going to kill you" he mumbled. She just sat there comforting him with her bare presence.
“You shouldn't listen to those who call you weak, there is so much more to a person than just their physical strength. Don't you see that their words are tearing you apart? Is this really who you would be if you'd didn't listen?” Delmar just stood there staring out into oblivion.
“Shouldn't you care about what the people close to you think instead?” she whispered.
“I have nobody. No one cares for me…”
They just sat there for a while quietly. Angi rested her head on his shoulder and Delmar stared out into the air.
“My mom tossed me away the day she realized I wasn't a wolf cub. I was alone surviving in the woods until a squad from the thermal/mechanical faction found me, or I found them. They took me to the element shifter headquarters in the human city to learn about our species. The only thing I learnt there was that I was weak and not worthy of the name ‘element shifter’. Also that I’m a danger to us because I can't resemble either a wolf or a human properly. I can reveal our species to the gods and make them kill us all. I wanted to be a part of their society so badly…” He looked down on the ground. “Maybe we should move. There's quicksilver everywhere.”
“Yeah, that seems like a good idea.” They started walking side by side.
“You know, you may stay for the night if you like to.” Delmar said. Angi just smiled and looked at him.
“I’d like that”
“If you can stand the cold that is, it's kind of chilly around me” he giggled.
“Pff, I don't mind the cold." She looked amused.
“But I want you to leave me alone tomorrow and go back to your pack."
“You know I’m not going to do that." Angi smiled again.
