Maira:
WHAT THE FUCK! But I locked the door? Wait isn’t this trespassing? What is going on? I can’t even fucking run away because of my dumb dumb ass LOCKED myself into my bathroom. Now dream boy is on the other side of the door. “Maira I know you’re on the other side of the door.” He said quietly. I just know he’s the general's boy. What was his name? Kate? Kitten? Fucking hell, I’m calling him Kitten for now. He knocked on the door again. “Maira, I know you’re scared, but please talk to me.” He said pleadingly. I had to hold back a scoff. Does this guy freaking know me? Who the hell does he think he is? Fucking god?! “Please, Maira” I could hear the plead in his voice. Now or never buddy. My plan was to bring the hairdryer and hit whoever was in my way. I immediately grabbed my hair dryer and busted the door open, John seemed pretty surprised and I used that as an advantage. Now’s my cue to leave, I flew out of the room, but before I made it past my door, he grabbed the cord of the hairdryer, and pulled. Hard. I slammed into him, face into chest and all. Oww my nose. I grabbed my nose and slowly looked up at him. His dark eyes glowed with amusement, a devilish grin played on his lips. “Now will you listen?” he asked raising an eyebrow. This guy thinks he friggin won?! No way in hell. I tried to step back, but his arms held me in place. I felt my eyes widen. His smile widened. Sorry, buddy but- I kicked, my foot connecting to his knee, hearing a grunt -have other places to be. His knee buckled and hands loosened their grip. I quickly wiggled free and ran to the stairs. Shit. I saw his posey at the bottom of the stairs. All of them talking between themselves, before looking up at me. “Ms. Noo-” the older guy started, but before he could finish, John came out of my room, and man did he look pissed. Looks like my only way out is the back door. I started running down the stairs, jumping over the rails halfway. “Maira!” called Kitten, as I continued running towards the back door. His posey seemed to get the idea and I heard their footsteps behind me. I opened the door, running outside, the cold breeze signalling the start of fall. Barefoot I ran onto the grass, running towards the gate, but before I could make it, a strong arm grabbed me by my waist. “LET ME GO” I screamed kicking and flailing my arms but all my efforts were in vain. I slowly stopped, breathing heavily, tears threatening to fall but I refused to let them. “Are you done?” asked John quietly. Now my life is ruined. He’s going to kill me. I’ll be used as a stupid pon for the media and I’ll be miserable- “Maira?” asked Kitten snapping me out of my thoughts. “Let me go,” I said quietly. “Only if you promise to behave,” demanded Kitten. “Fine,” I said. His arms let go of my waist but his hands were placed on my sides. I really did not want to turn around, but I did. His face was serious, but his eyes told another story.
Kaito:
She finally turned around. I still kept my hands on her sides, just to make sure she won’t try and run for it. Again. But another part of me wanted to keep them there because he wanted to feel her. Her nose was slightly red, and her eyes were watery. Shit, she’s upset. He really didn’t like the idea of upsetting her, but there’s no other way to talk to her. “Let’s go inside,” I offered. She began to walk inside, and I followed close behind. Everyone watched us come inside. I led her to the loveseat in the living room and let her sit. I decided to stand just in case she felt uncomfortable. “Ms. Noon, now are you ready to talk?” my father asked raising an eyebrow. “Leave my house. Now” she responded coldly. “Mair-” I began but she cut me off. “Shut it Kitten or whatever the fuck your name is. Don’t act like we’re lovers. Because we’re not.” she was really mad. Daniel, Leia, and Everett suppressed the urge to laugh at my new nickname. Fucking Kitten. “Actually my name is Kaito. Kaito Lee. The son of General Lee.” I said nodding towards my father. “As if I didn’t fucking know,” she whispered. My father cleared his throat. “Ms. Noon, we have a proposition to make. It seems apparent you know that you’re promised to my son.” Well, he just got straight to the point. “I don’t believe in this garbage.” She pointed out. This was going to be a long day. “And I understand why you may seem skeptical bu-” Maira cut him off again. “I don’t want anything to do with you or your son. Now please LEAVE.” she stood up and walked towards the main door and held it open. “Get out.” she pointed towards the door. This wasn’t working. I stood up and walked towards her. Her expression dark. “Can we talk alone?” I asked. “Then we’ll leave. I promise.” I said looking her in her eyes. She sighed, her hand going to the back of her neck. She looked down and then nodded. “Thank you.” I was relieved. She slammed the door and began walking upstairs. I trailed her feeling the eyes of my companions on us the whole time. We walked into her bedroom, the hairdryer on the ground. She picked it up and placed it on the desk. “I know that you don’t believe all this stuff and believe me I didn’t believe it at first either.” She sat on the edge of her bed and watched him. “But when the shaman started the ritual I felt odd. I heard your heartbeat in my ears.” I slowly sighed. “I know it’s a lot to take in right now. And I know you’re scared, but please-” I walked a few steps closer to her “hear me out.” She looked at me then spoke, her voice was like music to my ears. “Sit,” she said patting the bed beside her. I smiled. She’s finally willing to listen. I sat beside her and looked over. She was even prettier up close. She looked back up at me with her big brown eyes. I could drown in her eyes. My gaze travelled down her face. I cleared my throat and looked down at the ground and looked back at her. “Please stay with me for a while.” She raised her brow at me. “I don’t follow,” she said studying me. “One of my family members owns an apartment complex that has an empty suit. We could live there. You know get to know each other. Only for six months. And if you completely hate me afterwards then you can leave. You’ll have a ride to school, money, food, whatever you need, you can have. Oh, and you’re parents will be taken care of. They’ll receive money from my family and reap all kinds of benefits.” She eyed me down. “What the catch?” she asked. “You have to attend Majen High and have to keep up public appearances with the media.” Her face unreadable. “The spirit school?” she asked skeptically. “Yeah, the spirit school.” she sighed. “Why would I go there? In fact, why would I ever agree to this?” she gestured her hands, clearly done with me. “Because if you’re my promised, then it only makes sense you have strong spiritual energy, that we’d love to train, for the better of humanity. And think about your parents. They finally get the life they’ve always dreamed of. A big house, money, riches, whatever you want.” Her eyes widened at the mention of her parents. Ugh, I hate that I even have to do this. It was all just a script that my father's secretary wrote.
“My parents get taken care of even after things end?” she asked. “Of course we’ll take care of your family,” I said leaning closer. I brushed a strand of hair that escaped her ponytail behind her ear. Her eyes widened then looked down. “I’ll think about it,” she mumbled, her hands fidgeting with the sheets. “Thank you.” A smile spread across my face. I got up from the bed clearing my throat. “Well, I should get going now,” I said abruptly ending the moment. She stood up and lead me downstairs. “Are we going now?” Leia asked. “Yeah,” I said. Everyone started leaving her house. I turned to her again. “We’ll keep in touch,” I said before leaving her house.
Maira:
I shut the door, tired and in shock making sure the door wasn’t broken. I checked my phone for the time. Only 2:30 and my life’s already falling apart. I sighed and dragged my feet up the stairs, feeling drained and defeated. I was so tired and all I wanted was to sleep ten lifetimes. The maybe I’ll feel better. I slumped onto the bed, my eyes closing instantly as the hit the sheets. Then I fell asleep.
I slowly opened my eyes, hearing pots and pans banging around downstairs. Mom and Dad’s home. I slowly started stretching my arms around and sat up. My room was the same. Nothings changed, yet it somehow everything else has. My room was dark, and I looked outside. The sky was dark, past sunset. There was still hints of light blue left in the deep dark sky. The moon was full tonight, the light lit up the sky. I wonder if the moon spirit could save me. I felt so lost, thinking about what happened. I wonder if my parents know. I checked my phone. 8:30 pm I got off my bed, head pounding in my skull. I held onto the bedpost scared if I let go I would fall. I took a deep breath and slowly made my way downstairs. My mom was laughing at something my father said before she spotted me. “Hey, sleepyhead” she smiled. My father turned around his face brightening. “How’s my little princess doing?” he said pulling me into a hug. “We saved some dinner for you. Tonight its rice and curry!” My mom exclaimed gesturing to the pot. “It does smell nice,” I said staring at the pot. “Honey are you okay?” my mom asked as I sat down, worry in her voice. “You’ve been sleeping all day,” she pointed out as I ate in silence.
My parents were the most hardworking people I’ve ever met. We didn’t grow up the richest, as my mother and father had me at eighteen. They worked so hard to get us to where we are now. They deserve the world. “You’re parents will be taken care of.” That same phrase went rampant in my head. They’ll be set for life. The people that I loved most in this world were finally going to get what they deserve.
Suddenly tears fell before I knew what was happening. “Oh princess what happened?” my father asked stroking my hair, making me cry even more. Finally, this is my way of helping. Finally. “Dear, you can tell us what happened.” my mother coached. “General Lee’s son, Kaito is my promised.” Crying even harder after I said it. Get it together Maira, this isn’t worth crying over. Still, it was my bodies natural reaction. “Oh sweetie, isn’t that a good thing? He’ll give you the life you deserve!” my mother spoke in a soothing tone, as she sat next to me. “He offered me a deal.” I felt my parents exchange questioning glances. “Sweetie, we don’t want you to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with.” my father said, still brushing my hair with his hand. “No, it’s to go to spirit school.” My mother took my hand. “Then why are you crying?” That’s a good question. Why are you crying? Oh yeah maybe because you’re selling your soul to the literal devil! I sighed, my crying stopping. “I’m thinking of taking it. But if I do. I’ll have to live with him in his big fancy apartment.” I said leaning my head on my dad's body. “I’ll miss you, that’s all.” flashing a small smile to my mother. “Oh sweetie,” my mom said before coming in for a hug. The three of us hugged it out before my parents distracted me with funny stories at work while I finished eating. I washed my plate and went upstairs. I need to text Hana. I said grabbing my phone off the bed and sitting down.
Me:
Can we meet tomorrow?
Hana:
Duh, we can. But not at my place, because my grandma’s over
Me:
Alright. Come over around 11 in the morning.
Hana:
Kay.
I was so tired, and I JUST woke up. A new record. I got off my bed grabbed my laptop and got onto Saltflix, to find some stupid special. I sat on my bed, in the dark watching terrible shows, but honestly, it was somehow better than facing reality.
“Hey, Kaito” I hard when I entered the gym for morning practice. I saw Daniel and Leila snickering in the corner near the weights. It’s too early for this shit. It wasn’t even that funny! I thought before walking over to them. “Hey, guys. Knock it off alright.” Everett responded before hopping off the treadmill. “Why are you late, Kaito?” Daniel said snickering. I shook my head before hopping onto the treadmill. I plugged in my earbuds, knowing Everett was probably scolding them by the minute. I didn’t feel the greatest after yesterday. Of course, I feel like shit, I used her parents as bait. Running helped blow off the leftover stress. I sighed knowing my father would make me find Maira to ask about the deal.
“So what did you wanna talk about?” asked Hana, digging into her burger. We went to our favorite burger joint today, Bickering Burgers. I sipped on my chocolate shake quietly before answering. Chocolate sure knows how to give me courage. “Kaito’s promised is me,” I answered shortly. Her eyes went wide and she began to choke on her meal. “Woah are you good?” I asked after she took a sip from her strawberry milkshake. “WHAT?” she practically yelled. “Shhh!” I hissed before giving a few apologetic glances to some of the other customers that looked over at the commotion. “When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” she whisper-yelled. I explained the events that took place yesterday, not sparing any details. I didn’t bother telling my parents the last part of them being taken care of. They’d probably kill him. And that wasn’t a terrible option. “Holy shit what an ass,” Hana responded apologetically. “Hey, it’s not your fault. I can’t believe he used my parents like that.” I said leaning back. We sat in a booth meant for more than two people. “Are you going to accept?” she said before taking the last few sips of her shake. I nodded, too defeated for words. “Why?” she asked, clearly annoyed. “He’s a big douche. Let him rot with his stupid money!” she spat, making me laugh. “I love you, you know that Han, but unfortunately for me, I want to help my parents in any way I can. Even if it means dealing with the devil himself.” I responded unable to keep the melancholy out of my voice. “Ugh, you’re too good Mai. Whatever let’s forget him and go on a NEEDED girls day out.” she got up from her seat and I followed.
